5. Bb5 was played as recently as 2021 by Jordan Van Foreest against Wesley So, so it is hardly an off-the-wall idea. After 7. Nc3 that game continued (instead of 7...0-0) 7...d6; 8. 0-0 Bg4; 9. Qd3 0-0 and Wesley eventually won in 55 after Jordan sacced an exchange and a 4-queen position was reached. This game was a repeat of Vavulin-Sargsyan up to 11...Ng6, whereupon Maksim played Bg3 instead of taking the knight resulting in a 50 move draw.
