Furukawa seems to be very conservative and safe with how he is leading the company and I can honestly see him wanting to call it the Switch 2 to make it very clear it's a next gen console

Nintendo had no problem with that before with new systems having a different name. Nobody thought oh is the Nintendo 64 the same thing as the Super Nintendo? Is the Gamecube the same as the N64? Is the Wii the same as the Gamecube? If you can't tell a system is different by it having a DIFFERENT name, you're not a very smart man, and should be going through life with a helmet on.

Yeah we got the guy from who was in the switch 1 commercial saying we could get a new trailer within 6 weeks, the guy who leaked the Ps5 pro saying it’ll be revealed in early October, and the Chinese factory worker who is already producing switch 2 units, it’s extremely likely we get a reveal within a month

i was so scared for the switch 2's launch, but everything looks absolutely perfect for it. nintendo has had such a rollercoaster of a history but they had a big break with the switch and are now just... being handed another one of those victories but far easier. it feels really surreal as someone who became an active nintendo fan during the wii u/3ds generation where they were at their weakest

The fact Limited Run Games is one of the studios invited is interesting. Could be that they're being told the specs of the new cartridge so that they can properly design their games to make the most of the new media, or to more effectively market physical releases of upcoming games. It doesn't necessarily mean they're revealing the console as a whole.

When the Chinese leak said the console was black and white, I also was thinking no colored buttons? But what if the joycon is black and the buttons look white, but actually have LEDs and can change colors. Because the issue would be when you rotate the controller sideways, now all the color context of what each button does is wrong. It would take more power to do that constantly, but just an idea.

Historically numerical upgrades immediately cannibalise the sales of the previous model, obviously, they're still selling and planning on selling the Nintendo Switch. Nintendo to my knowledge have NEVER done numerical incremented hardware. Can't see it

Just don’t think it’s getting announced this week. I know you said the unveil of switch won’t hurt the sales of the original switch, I think that’s debatable. Also unveiling it now would hurt the sales of the upcoming software. It’ll confuse the mainstream consumer as well. The switch is more alive than ps4 was back in 2020. Announcement isn’t coming until Jan 2025. I want it too but it’s just not happening.

I think, of anything here, I do believe the name Switch 2 can happen. Like, yeah, Nintendo’s never really done it before… for a home console. And while Switch is, as I will always argue, a hybrid and not strictly a handheld or home console, they have reused names for handhelds more than the home consoles. We had the whole GameBoy line, the two DS, so Switch and Switch 2 would not super surprise me. As for why Switch 2 when they usually put some adjective on the console instead of a number- the Wii U might’ve scared them to the point of just being as blatant as possible this is a new system. But yeah, this system is gonna be revealed soon. Again, I need to see games and get confirmation of stuff like backwards compatibility and such before I can really get excited, but we’re close enough it feels more tangible and more exciting. (Though I would not mind if they just held off on the reveal until next week for petty, someone made a bet it would be funny for them to lose reasons, lol.)
