I want to share my experience with the Tesla Model Y to raise awareness about its significant flaws. This car is not suitable for driving in the rain; the design is poorly built, compromising the water seal to the motors underneath. Recently, I found myself driving on a road flooded to the curb level. I know this was a bad idea, but it wasn’t intentional. After all, it’s marketed as an SUV, or at least a crossover, given its size. Mine is a 2023 Performance Model Y. Tesla will not cover water damage, despite the fact that they build cars that are prone to major issues when driving in wet conditions. I received an estimate for repairs of nearly $6.5k. This makes me suspect that Tesla has a strategy of attracting customers with significant discounts compared to their initial prices, only to make more money off of repair costs later. To make matters worse, if you do not have Tesla insurance, they won’t send you roadside assistance in this kind of situation. These cars are extremely delicate when it comes to water exposure. To anyone reading this: never drive your Tesla on a rainy day or even shortly after it stops raining. Avoid taking your Tesla to a car wash, and if you must, do not select the underbody wash option. I have owned this car for just 10 months, and it’s already been in the service center three times. I purchased it for nearly $53k, and the insulation around the major components is alarmingly poor. I can no longer drive it with peace of mind when it rains, and I deeply regret my decision to buy this vehicle.

How much did you put down including trade in value and what did the payments come out to. This is 1 of my biggest concerns. I financed 53k on a standard range Model 3 with 15k down, 1yr ago. It's now worth 20k.

Will someone please add up all the time spent in a year driving to the gas station, over to that other one where you collect points. Add in the time you have to wait for a spot, the time it takes to pump you gas, check your oil and drive home. Total that up for a year and I think you will be surprised. I don’t ever do any of that. Except on vacation. When we take the kids to the beach we get the Hua Hin, and I have about 25% left. (If my wife makes the trip, she arrives with 49% left) That is enough to go out to dinner a couple of times and run to 7-11. Yes, drive to the new Super Charger in Hua Hin, and drive Home. But anything we do around Bangkok, stuck in traffic for hours sometime, we never get below 50%… down from 80% that we charge to at home. To be honest, I rented a Tesla in Dallas last year and I was going to drop it off in Van Nuys. We (me and one coworker) had to stay in dallas for a month before we went back to LA area. I got an idea to Show my coworker the Southwest US a little on the way. We would stop by and see my ex brother in law in Pagosa Springs Co, take the drive out through Cortez, down through Mexican Hat, at least drive through monument Valley and Bryce Canyon National Park. But you can’t do that in a Tesla. I see now that they have a new supercharger in Kayenta AZ since I went through but there were no supercharger in Southwest Co. We had to charge at a 1772 (hertz didn’t give or have a ccs plug) for 5 hours, which pit us late to Cortez. To make our hotel in Page AZ we had to go to Blanding to get the supercharger up there. Then, if I drove like my wife does, we could just ‘bearly’ make to page with 15%. So now at 10:30 we headed to page from Blanding. While at that supercharger we put our navigation to Page and once finished charging we didn’t notice that it change the destination to Farmington supercharger. Halfway through battery, we noticed. From there, we could not make it to page Arizona and to drive to Farmington out-of-the-way meant that we would stay in Farmington and Miss, our hotel and deposit in page Arizona. So we had to drive back to Blanding Utah to go to the supercharger once again so we could drive to page against the recommendation of the navigation system. This put a so late in our trip that we could only spend the night in page, not see anything but the Glen Canyon Dam, and just drive to the valley. There is just some things in a Tesla that you cannot do and that is sightsee in the Navajo nation or countries like Thailand that have very few superchargers thus far.

Most are valid. I took my first long distance road trip one month after getting my Tesla. I did great, no range anxiety until I tried to out think the car. It told me when to charge and I tried to push it and had to eventually go to a charger. So remember the car will do its job and get you to your destination, just follow its instructions.

The only friends/family that I have that would never buy a Tesla are the pretty liberal ones. I love my Tesla and tell them all that it's the best vehicle I've ever owned but they hate Trump so bad that they'd never buy one. Who cares about the person Elon is voting for. I bought my 2020 Model Y used one year ago. My biggest regret is that I waited so long to get it. It is without a doubt the best purchase of any type that I’ve made. Being used, it did not qualify for the $7500 tax refund, and it was too expensive to qualify for the used car refund ($35000). Regardless, I LOVE the car and really enjoy driving it. And FSD is spectacular. Very little intervention, and very smooth. I don’t miss ApplePlay at all. I just sync my phone through Bluetooth and enjoy my music, podcast, or audio books while still enjoying the full functionality of the screen and Tesla software. I charge at home using a 120 outlet; it’s slow, but easily covers most of my driving at $0.15/kwh. If I need more charge for extra driving or a road trip, I simply pull in to a SuperCharger, no problem. And I’ve taken several multi-day road trips, and never had an issue with finding a SuperCharger; as you say, the car takes you to the locations. It’s the best purchase I’ve ever made.

Those haters will always find things to complaint. Stick with the gasoline cars blah blah blah…As a citizen of this great country, we should be proud of what Tesla has accomplished for a relatively young American corporation. For the first time in so long that an American made dominates the global market. That is something WE should be proud of! I bought my Tesla because that’s how I want to spend my hard earned money regardless of Elon political view. His political view has no impact on my life what so ever!

What if it takes me on a route where I need to stop for charging but it’s the most congested traffic ridden route rather than a route that is free of traffic but has no charges? I don’t have to worry about that with a gas powered car obviously because there are plenty of gas stations around. You see what I mean? Don’t want to have to think of where I might have to gas up because of where I’m going and that’s a major issue and that I have to drive according to the cars capabilities rather than it takes me where I want to go.

You have 4 groups of people.... early adopters, potential buyers, cautious buyers, and never buyers. You largely have exhausted the early adopters. Potential buyers need to be pushed a bit... get range over 375 miles... get charging from 20-80% down to 15 mins. You can talk all you want about "you really don't need that much range..." but people are irrational. Features are nice and all, but to really open you up to a broader population, you need to increase range and decrease charging times.

Why can’t they make the Tesla with the same controls as a regular car? Why is everything on a screen? I mean, if something goes wrong with the electronics, you wouldn’t be able to do anything with that car. What’s wrong with having turn signals on the steering wheel and buttons on your radio and a stick shift in the middle, and just hook it up to the engine?
@878Docto
@878Docto 2 ай бұрын
It’s a good car if you’re able to charge it in your driveway and you don’t take long trips. It’s not made for you if you don’t have the ability to charge it at home or you make a lot of long trips relying on charges. That’s all they have to say because probably most people can charge it at their home. It just doesn’t fit with everyone.

The range thing is waaaaaay overblown. Accessories are plentiful. Prices have been coming down and are more affordable than ever. Apple Carplay.....don't care, the Tesla system is pretty awesome and is getting better. People often assume bad software in cars since non-Tesla OEMS are horrible at software. Charging at home at 0.12/kwh for me rocks. I used FSD Supervised for about 95% of all my driving. No major issues. The eye tracking is way better than jiggling the steering wheel. Hopefully, Y will get everything that my 24 M3RWD-LR has. The updates were great enough for me to trade in my 23 M3Performance. I registered my shares and would love to go!

I fully agree with you. Never once had this so called range anxiety. No more then forgetting to fill up on gas and running on fumes. Also agree the Tesla media experience is better due to how integrated it is. Don't know about the 12 cents a KWH. That would break me. We have always been at 3.9cents a KWH and I still spend 300 a month on power. Thankful to President Roosevelt for the Public Utility Districts, and our wealth of Power through the dams.

I bought a MYP in April for 43k with 5k off. We turned around in June and bought my wife a MYP on the 1% financing. Its hard to pass up these offers even knowing there is a refresh coming next year and ultimately why we decided to do it now instead of later. Any fears of range we killed with a 2000 mile road trip through the Midwest. The hassle of stopping is so minimal, you just plan bathroom breaks and food around these stops and it barely adds any time. Its been an absolute joy having these cars and I have no doubt my next vehicle will be a Tesla again in a few years. My wife though has her heart set on the R2, she's sold on EVs but the R2 design matches her heart which is fine by me as I'd love to have access to one too!

I considered cancelling my order (Model Y) back in 2021 because of NO XM Radio. Having to pull the app up on my phone and choose stations from the phone is frustrating and Dangerous while driving. I have had multiple false braking alerts while using Autopilot (just for speed control) on my car. It happens at least once during every road trip! My wife will not use the Autopilot. Also, based on my experience with Tesla's free month of FSD (last April) and the issues with Autopilot, I would NEVER pay the price for FSD. I could not even offer up any comments on the FSD experience because they required you to have an "X" account, which will never happen!

Another excellent post Robert. Here in good old Blighty we don’t yet have FSD. Really hoping the laws are changed that will allow it to become an option. I bought my M3 Highland RWD in July this year and absolutely love it. I was and still am a petrolhead with 35+ years of driving. I can hand on heart say that my M3 is the best vehicle I have ever owned (and I’ve had a lot of nice ice cars) Here In the UK we still face a lot of challenges as the transition towards EV adoption continues. Media myths being the main obstacle in my opinion. My recent experience here in the Uk is there are lots of really good EVs currently on sale from a range of Manufacturers. However, after looking at all my options it was a total no brainer to go for a Tesla and I’m completely satisfied with the fact that I did. To all those who aren’t sure or convinced I say. Don’t knock it till you have tried it.

It is frustrating to use the pushbuttons due to the fact that they rotate with the steering wheel. ChatGPT “The charging efficiency of a 2024 Tesla Model 3 can vary based on several factors, but typically, it is around 90%. This means that about 90% of the energy drawn from the charger is stored in the battery, while around 10% is lost as heat or through other inefficiencies. Charging efficiency can depend on: - The type of charger (Level 1, Level 2, or Supercharger). - Charging speed (slower charging tends to be more efficient). - Battery temperature and external conditions. Higher-powered chargers, like Tesla's Superchargers, can sometimes have slightly lower efficiency compared to slower, home-based Level 2 chargers.”

Three places power can be lost when charging - a) Input wiring b) Charging inverter electronics c) Battery charging efficiency. Each of these generates heat and is a function of the square of the current. Level 1 in some cases can actually be less efficient than Level 2 because the AC input inverter is optimized for 240 volts.

At first, I wasn’t going to buy a Tesla because of Elon support for Trump. But as soon as Trump says, he doesn’t care for Ev’s. Which was a slap in the face for Elon. I test drove the Highland model 3. Fell in love. Here I am enjoying my electrified vehicle. Anxiety went away. After 600 miles on the road.

Wow! Who bases a purchase or life decision based on other peoples support for Trump? How small minded can you be? What about the non Trump supporters that have Teslas are they going to get rid of their cars because Elon supports Trump? 🤦‍♀️if you live your life this way trust me you wouldn’t buy anything because there are a lot of companies that support Trump! And another note, if a tech genius like Elon is supporting him you may want to open your mind as to why! Don’t be fooled by the bs talking points of the left, look what they have done in the last 3.5 yrs, make life harder and more expensive for everyone, is that what you’re comfortable getting behind because CNN told you so?🤦‍♀️

Robert, for me it took 1 minute or less to lookup my electric company and find out what it would cost to charge an EV at home. They even have a section of the site dedicated to let consumers knnow exactly what your average cost will be, by make and model and driving range per week/month. Right now I am still driving an ICE but seriously looking at a Tesla. And yes you are right, I don't earn 6 figures a year but I know what I can afford. I guess if I can afford $600 on my current ICE vehicle then a Tesla wouldn't be an issue.

I’m glad depreciation and longevity aren’t mentioned in this video. Because that would be too real of a topic to cover as they are the two issues that the owners actually are affected by. I love this video because it’s disingenuous and that’s what’s most important. Real issues should always be avoided and never discussed.

A front facing camera parking please!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Stupidity by Tesla to avoid adopting a 360 degree view. It’s astounding how Tesla has stopped innovating. With current technology Tesla should be packing another 15 to 20 percent in energy density into every battery.

Why doesn’t anyone talk about phantom braking problem with Teslas
@jimhertwig2220
@jimhertwig2220 3 ай бұрын
In my experience, the phantom braking issue was a HUGE problem before the update to FSD. I did experience it a couple of times on a recent road trip, but it merely slowed the car down instead of jamming on the brakes like it used to. I just tapped the “gas” pedal and it resumed set speed.

There is a reason every home owner can pull their own electrical permits and do their own work. It wasn't too long ago, almost every adult male could wire an electrical outlet, or fix a car. Stop being so damn incompetent. You people are smart, so start believing in yourself. An electrician only needs a 85 iq.

The problem you have in a Tesla is if you do run out of range its not like a ICE car where you can empty a can full of diesel or gas into the tank. In most cases unless there's some kind of portable fast charger available you have to get it towed. Some EV manufacturers are doing the smart thing and installing a small ice engine and generator to supply power which will get you on your way to the nearest charging station. I don't believe that feature is available in any Tesla though.
