In this mandolin video lesson I’m showing you a very good etude for fretboard freedom. We’re playing the major triad in all keys, through a perpetual motion. This will improve your way of knowing the fretboard and help you to build scales, chords and arpeggios and will give your musical freedom and improve your improvisation ability.

As always, on point and practical. And yes, Magnus, as a former piano player, everything I used to practice on piano ran through the circle of fourths. Always. The way jazz moves (usually in fourths) I LOVE exercises like this. Also, its such a great way of taking something simple and running it through all twelve keys. I’m not the greatest musician in the world, but I always encourage other players to take things through the circle for twelve key practice. Challenging? Yes, but not impossible by a long shot. Thanks again and all the best. Michael from Chicago.

Happy New year to you Magnus. Thanks for taking the time to create such nice video content for us. I have been following you for a short while now and have incorporated many of your examples in my daily playing. I plan to begin applying this perpetual motion exercise in my normal practice routine. Cheers
