You really can’t go wrong on any of the vintage Craftsman tools. I’m not afraid to give a little extra when they are in really good shape. Most of the time it’s still superior to most anything made today aside from the remaining American made commercial and tool truck brands.
@realworldtoolreviews
@realworldtoolreviews 2 жыл бұрын
I agree with you 100%. USA made stuff like that can really only be found on the tool trucks nowadays. It’s sad that it used to be the norm and now the norm is Chinese crap.

Only need to add a universal joint to your kit. When it comes to pliers Channelock was indeed one of Craftsman OEMs. The punch set is great.

Hey, a Chapman ratchet! They don't work with standard quarter hex bits though. Well they can but the bits will be free to slide up and down in the hex. The way they make their bits is with a couple crimped spots to act as a stop, and a ball detent to hold it from the other side; they usually also come with a little thumbwheel on top of each bit. Also of note is it's all USA-made, and the bits are fully machined instead of being sintered metal like a lot of other companies do. If you wanna flesh out a little Chapman kit building off your ratchet (which just saved you 8 bucks lol) they sell empty cases, empty bit rails, and individuals and sets of bits only, over on their Chapman MFG website.

Yea I realized that normal bits don’t work in it. I’ll have to find me a vintage set to go with it!

Man… I hit the jackpot yesterday. Two big carboard boxes. 1 full of wrenchs and ratchets. Mostly v sereis. Second box full of sockets. Again mostly v but lots of EE and G some older ones. Think it had 8 breaker bars. All v series. Ton of adapters and swivels and all that jazz. Did however miss out on the crown top box the guy had but I couldn’t complain. Spent the day cleaning some of them and soaking them over night. Prolly 1000 tools all craftsman 98% USA made (some st series stuff) and prolly 75% v series. You don’t wanna know what I paid. Got a few ratchets that are patent pending FTRHs I think what you call Flying V ratchets with the big dumb selectors. But yeah. What a find! I told the guy to take my wallet and take what he wanted…. Cuz I was def taking it all…

That’s awesome dude! Those sockets are better than 90% of the stuff you can get off the shelf now a days. You can probably make your money back selling some of them breaker bars. You probably don’t need 8 😂😂 I would have bought it all too brother

Always great tool finds when RWTR has a new video out. Quick question if I may... I have a lot of old quality tools that are rusting, a few froze up or seized, some that are oxidizing or have likely been urinated on by rodents while in storage. I feel like my first step is to soak them... what do you recommend I soak them in and for how long? I know you're gonna kick out some resto videos soon, but I wanna get a jump start on my collection before those videos hit.

If they are really rusty, you can soak them in a product called evaporate-rust, but you really only need that for extreme rust. I usually just spray them down with wd-40 and let it sit for a few hours or overnight, then the wire wheel pretty much knocks everything off most of the time.
@erik34
@erik34 2 жыл бұрын
@@realworldtoolreviews Alright, thanks y'all. That's my plan now. How long can they soak in the Evap o rust solution before it starts to damage the metals? Left a pair of vise grips soaking in vinegar for too long and it started eating away at em..
@ege713
@ege713 2 жыл бұрын
@@erik34 Evaporust isn't acidic like the vinegar. Things can sit in Evaporust and not be harmed. It breaks the chemical bond of the iron oxide and draws it into solution and leaves everything else alone.
