An interesting estate sale collection of tools in my favorite style of vintage Craftsman Tool Boxes. This one has a little bit of everything. Craftsman, SK, Proto, Herbrand, even a Snap On or two. Let's see what we've got!

As I grew up I learned to appreciate the quality of Craftsman tools, but as a kid, the most important part of a trip to Sears was the caramel corn. My father was a dyed in the wool Sears and Craftsman guy so we were there at least once a month. It's a shame to see them gone.

I hear you. My father worked in heavy construction and as a kid I saw how even the bulldozer mechanics had Craftsman tools. There were a lot of good manufacturers contracting for Craftsman like Plomb, Western Forge, Easco, New Britain and even Snap On. Even today, the Craftsman Overdrive line is supposedly being made by Mac Tools. When our last local Sears went under, I went in and bought a bunch of the USA tools they had left. Sad to see them go.

l bought the same two boxes from sears in 1971 after graduating high school and getting my first job . My second purchase was a set of half inch drive MAC impact sockets off the Mac tool van, l still have them all in good rust free condition with the keys! The top tool box and sockets cost 100 dollars each and the bottom roller was 200 dollars . l made 100 dollars a week for fifty hours at a tire shop ,retreading tires.

I used to buy retreads/recaps as a teenager back in the 1980's. I used to wonder how they were made. You are one of the few who know that lost art!

I have the same bottom box. I inherited it from my dad. He said it was from the sixties when he was a mechanic. It still works but needed a little welding reinforcement. Far better than current Craftsman boxes. Great video

I think these were from very late 1950's to early 1970's. I have one where the badge is actually metal so my guess is that it's an older one than this. There are date codes in some of them usually on the top boxes under the lid to the right and I think on the bottom boxes on top to the right front. I've found that info to be unreliable in some cases though.

I wish more young people were mechanically inclined. Adulthood is going to be very difficult for people who don't know how to repair anything.

I have Proto tools myself. It's my favorite brand. I have a few vintage stuff, most of it's new though. Proto has always had a reputation for quality. They have never let me down. Tough robust tools. Heres something that's interesting, Proto used to be called Plomb. I do like the look of the Vintage Craftsman red and Grey boxes. I wish the "new" Craftsman would bring that color scheme back.

I found a little plastic SK case and that socket was part of a set of two plug sockets and extensions and all of the pieces were in the pile. 👍 One was just a regular spark plug socket but the second one you may be correct about.

A very nice tool chest and roller. Similar to mine that I got in 1974. In the 1970s when I was active working on cars, the parts stores gave out the tune up specifications books each year. They'd be in a pile and you could just help yourself. The spark plug socket at about 44:00 looked like it had been ground down for clearance. Good Luck, Rick

Thanks! The grey and red boxes are my favorites. Likely because my father had them but there's something classic about the colors and the V logo. I'm editing the repaint video this weekend so I should have it done in a few days.

I have the same set of tool boxes. My top box was from 1974; my bottom box was from 1975. I need to strip the paint, remove the rust, and repaint them but otherwise the boxes are still good. Not too bad for being almost 50 years old.

These grey and reds were very good boxes. They get surface rust but I've never seen one rusted through and they're pretty easy to restore as well.

Rustoleum Hammered Grey is a good match. People say Farm Tractor red is close but I prefer the red High Performance enamel because the red is brighter and getting a gloss finish out of the spray can requires little effort.

1966 my dad bought me a basic Power Kraft monkey wards set in California. I was a poor Pendleton Maine and it kept my 57 Belair going.I just gave my grandson all my tools including the ones dad gave me. I valued the MW tools more than the few snap on tools I had. Most of my tools were old USA Craftsman . We filled his pickup bed. I hope over the years when I am gone he thinks of me when using them

Plumb is what my Dad had from his P-51 Mechanic days in the late forties. So maybe you have the "O" where the "U" pronunciation should be?... The one you asked to be identified may have been the Plumb logo @ kzbin.info/www/bejne/nIbakoOuaqmnq6M.
@floridarusticrepairs
@floridarusticrepairs 5 ай бұрын
I assumed because it was spelled Plomb that it would be pronounced like bomb but I guess only the founder would know how to correctly pronounce that name. :) They've got an interesting history and even made tools for Craftsman in the 1930's. Wild that your dad was a P-51 Mustang mechanic.

I didn't mean to be so critical and I may stand to be corrected myself-I don't know it all. But yes Dad was in electronics radio school when he came down with polio.
