That's a good tip about playing the relative minor blues scale over the top of the major scale as it is a lot easier to remember just the one scale especially while improvising.

2 1 1 3 2 3 would be the major blues scale formula. And you see how that is shifted (rotated) one note, 3 steps (a minor third), upwards from the minor blues scale formula. Parallel keys! _ 2 1 1 3 2 3 3 2 1 1 3 2 _

I don't understand what you mean about soloing relative minor's blues scale over the major scale. For example. Im analyzing a song that's in Fmajor and when I look at the D minor blues scale, it contains 'Ab' which is not part of the F major scale. Or is that what makes it bluesy? I don't know why this song I'm analyzing sounds bluesy to me. Maybe bluesy is the wrong descriptor... In case you have the time and want to reference, the song is 'While the fire was out' by Brighten. It's just in F major, but it has this quality when the singer is vocalizing over the IV chord and also when resolving back down to the the I that gives it what I 'might be incorrectly' describing as 'bluesy'. Thanks for the video
@coloaten66825 жыл бұрын
This video is gonna be so useful for me - I'm learning a piece from the ABRSM Jazz Piano Pieces Grade 1 book and there are 12 bars left open for soloing, I'll be using what I've learned here to construct my solo :) Thanks a lot Simon, especially for that tip on the relative minor scale!

@dannuttle90055 жыл бұрын
I did know. What I know about the blues are that they can never decide if they're happy or sad, major or minor, and that is why there are so many dominant seventh chords, and they work...because the blues never resolves.

Question: if you're using as comping major chords from the 12-bar blues pattern and the minor blues you're improvising on top clashes with the major thirds in the chords, then shouldn't you have to make the chords minor, instead? Thank you!

The major pentatonic scale is exactly same as raag bhupali if indian music. And the minor blues scale is similar to raag bhimplasi of indian music. Music is universal! ❤️
@veeraraghavuluarigela90223 жыл бұрын
Sir, Minor pentatonic scale is equivalent to Raag Suddha Danyasi (Carnatic),Dhani (Hindustani).Not Bhimpalasi.
@sheheryar20023 жыл бұрын
@@veeraraghavuluarigela9022 i am talking about minor blues scale, not minor pentatonic
@veeraraghavuluarigela90223 жыл бұрын
Sir, We add Tivra M to Raag Dhani is formed Minor pentatonic Blue. So Minor pentatonic scale is not equivalent to Dhani and Bheempalasi because of Both Raags doesn't have Tivra M.It is only Western music Scale.

Are there even more useful 'modes' of the blues scale, other than major and minor? Say, starting on D instead of starting on E or G? Sorry if that's a dumb question - I'm really new (but growingly addicted) to music/blues theory...

Blues note in Minor Pentatonic Scale is the lat-3rd note, Minor Pentatonic scale add the blues note so call Mnor Blues Scale. Blues note in Major Pentatonic Scale is the flat-5th note, Major Pentatonic scale add the blues note so call Major Blues Scale.

Shouldn't the minor pentatonic last note be flattened 7?If you saying its F then G major only "7th" is F# which isnt the case.It should be Flat 7th .Right?Correct me if I am wrong

Sir,Good morning, the modes of Major Pentatonic scale are (1) Suspended Pentatonic (2)Minor Pentstonic#5 ( 3)Scottish Pentatonic( 4)Minor Pentatonic. All Musians known the above matter.Genarally Musians Said that Two Pentatonic Blues are there.They are (1)Major Pentatonic Blue (2)Minor Pentatonic Blue .But an idea came in mind that another Three Pentatonic Blues are there (1)Suspended Pentatonic Blue:Notes:C, Dflat, D, F ,G , Bflat ,C. (2)Minor Pentatonic#5Blue:Notes:C, Eflat ,F, Aflat, Bflat ,B ,C.(3) Scottish Pentatonic Blue : Notes:C, D, F , G ,G#, A , C. Sir. My Thought maybe Right or Wrong.Suppose My Thought is Wrong ,Please forgive me.Thanks.
