I love Great Bay, but looking at what other people say in various reviews of the game, it's the most stressful to try and complete in a 3-day cycle. Personally, I think it's the best water dungeon in a 3D zelda game, fully utilizing the 3D space of a water-based dungeon. The one thing I don't like about it is the ice arrows being super janky with how they make platforms. But what I love about it is the aesthetic, and the idea of controlling the water flow. There's also a theory that Great Bay Temple is an ancient water treatment plant, which I absolutely love, since the Bay is cleaned after you beat the temple.

Yeah, I love the aesthetic of Great Bay Temple. It has this mysterious vibe to it since you never get to see it up close, plus I always liked how technologically advanced it is compared to most Zelda dungeons. It's basically a giant power plant (though a water treatment plant could be likely as well). I'd place it above the Woodfall and Snowhead dungeons for sure. Woodfall was just boring and Snowhead was way too tedious having to constantly go back and forth between the different floors.

Funny you say that, beating Great Bay dungeon with literal minutes on the clock before game-over is one of my fondest memories of the game.

The Couple's Mask got done so dirty. For one thing, it's such a pretty mask with its smooth, shiny look and elegant markings. It has the most sentimental value to me considering the circumstances you obtain it in and what it represents. It's your reward to cap off experiencing the best side quest in the whole series.

Stone Tower Temple is not only my favorite MM dungeon but also one of my favorite Zelda dungeons period. Probably second place behind Eagle's Tower in Link's Awakening. Also whoever voted bunny hood as their least favorite is a heathen

I'm one of the people who voted Kamaro's Mask as their favorite mask. Genuinely surprised at how low it is. My favorite thing to do is dance in front of people or in strange places.

I hope this isn’t perceived as too critical, because I love your content! I am a research design specialist and just wanted to add one thing for future installments of these rankings Respectfully, I would make separate questions for liking a mask for aesthetics and a separate question for function. There are a handful of masks that I find aesthetically pleasing, but not that useful and vice versa. Ultimately you’re working with 2 different words with 2 different definitions. Which if you do that in one question, that’s called double barreling. And participants can have conflicting opinions about the two descriptive words which might disrupt your data. Again, apologies if I’m being too critical, just wanted to point that out to help capture good results. I enjoy the channel! Cheers!

​​@@blazinglions9554If I remember correctly, you can bomb hover with with blast mask which means you could, for example, backflip all the way to the entrance to Stone Tower without needing to solve a single puzzle Edit: Yup, just double checked and you can indeed fly with the blast mask. In fact thats probably the easiest way to do it!

RE: did you like OoT or MM more? I couldn’t even answer this one. I no longer have strong opinions in either direction. Rather I love them both equally and see them as a package deal. I wouldn’t want a world where both of them didn’t exist.

Ikr? Altough both are incredible games and can be enjoyed greatly individually, to me they feel so incomplete if you separate one from another, that when someone asks what my favorite Zelda game is nowadays I just say "The Hero of Time's saga"

Once upon a time I would have easily said MM, but as I've grown older and my tastes changed, I struggle to definitely answer that question now. Majora's Mask on the 64 was my first ever Zelda game so the nostalgia factor is strong, and experiencing a game that felt so alive with NPCs was probably pivotal into shaping me into who I am today. But only having four dungeons is more of a hindrance than it once was to me.

One of the biggest issues with great bay temple is the fact that almost everywhere you go is a one way trip. If you go the wrong way by accident you have to loop all the way back around, or play the song of soaring and go through the beginning room again (which is more annoying after unlocking the red switch).

It would have been nice if there was more game to give the lower ranked masks more than just their one-heart-piece treasure. especially the Mask of Scents, they could have done a lot with that whole scent finding feature, as they later proved with Wolf Link in in Twilight Princess.

Love it or hate it, the Don Garos mask is one of the most cool masks in the game and when it comes to 100% speedruns of LoZ:MM it is downright transformative to the routing. since early on you do a very long cycle spanning all 3 days you need to get a ton done in a small time and its during this several hour long segment that you'll be doing temples and thus need to do the frog quest. so its pretty intelligently and uniquely strewn throughout the game making it one of the most cool things to complete as you sit close to the end of the game getting that one piece you need.

The song you hear from the frogs at the end of the Don Gero's Mask side-quest is actually pretty nice....... just a real shame that you gotta go through so much bullshit in a single cycle just to access it. They could've at least spared us from having to trek partway through TWO dungeons just to defeat their mini-bosses (it's all the worse when you realize that Gekko are an original enemy to Majora's Mask, rather than re-using assets from Ocarina of Time, so they essentially made up this frog-themed mini-boss specifically to relate to the frogs from OOT, and figured that you needed to fight it twice in two separate dungeons).

There's definitely comedy in it, though. I remember as a kid being intensely amused by how the Gorman troupe members INSTANTLY get cripplingly sad and start crying when you put the mask on, and I used to rapid mash the mask button to watch their eyebrows go crazy. Also remember that aesthetics were a factor for people, and the Mask of Scents is pretty objectively visually unappealing compared to most other masks; not to mention the annoying grunting noises Link makes while wearing it. Add in that it does nothing to help you 100% the game, as its only gameplay benefit is something that means trading in the time to get the mushrooms for a 40 rupee savings, whereas the Circus Leader's Mask is at least involved in getting other stuff that contributes to 100%, and it makes sense to me!

Kihanacloudy it’s only needed in the remake for a new sidequest. In the original, the only place it was useful was the milk road raid but that had to be beaten before obtaining the mask

@@BR-jw7pm and what if, like a lot of kids, you couldn't figure out how to complete the sidequest in the first cycle after getting the mask? It makes getting past the annoying minigame with the Gorman Brothers on repeat cycles much easier. It's only useless to someone who already knows what to do and won't get lost or confused. There's also the fact that the game doesn't do a good job of telling the player that the Song of Inverted Time is a thing, increasing the odds that a casual player will find use out of the mask. iirc, the 3DS version does a better job of that, though

I think a better formula for an overall score going forward is subtracting the percentage of least fave from most fave, and then multiplying that amount to the like percentage. e.g. (using BK worlds as an example) If 61.2% of people like Rusty Bucket Bay, 1% say it is their fave workd, and 83.7% say it is their least fave, then you get -82.7% - add that to 100% and you get 17.3% (or 0.173), your multiplier. Which will give you an overall score of 10.59. This way you have a bound - you can never get a negative score as your minimum will be 0, and your maximum will always be double of what the like score is. Hope you see this and if this helps :)

I think the thing with great bay is that still has 2/3 people who like it but since they're forced to choose a least favourite it loses a lot of points, even if it's still enjoyed. Maybe having an option to say "no least favourites" when there's a small selection could avoid this problem.

Well i like stone tower temple it was surprising easiest temple ive played. Great bay was the most difficult and snow mountain temple about the same as Great bay. Woodfall is fun because of where you move around as when you first started the game in trying to get your ocarina back from skull kid.

I believe when it comes to the Zora's Mask you have to destinguish between N64 and 3ds. n64-Zora is amazing! 3ds-Zora is pretty good but i would prefer gorons mask there. just because they limit the zora-power on 3ds for seemingly no reason (need magic for fast swimming and dolphin jumping)

I'm guessing this is due to rounding errors. All the percentages are rounded to 1dp. I have a feeling that if you had the full percentages, did the calculation, and then rounded to 1dp, you'd get the same results

what would be most interesting to me is how many people who played majora's mask and liked it more than ocarina of time played ocarina of time before and how did it impact their perception of the game because to me these games are intricately linked in more than just the surface level of reusing the same models. I think how you experience the whole game is completely dictated in so many ways by having experienced ocarina of time before that playing it without it makes it completely different.

I’ll give you one sample for your study haha I started out playing OoT and would only occasionally mess with MM. I finally played the game in full when I bought a cart from my local second hand media store and then I bought it on VC, played it, beat it, and liked it. Years later it’s literally impossible for me to tell you which one I love more. They’re a complete package IMO

Personally, I played it on Wii first, and DID 100% it. I used to prefer it to Ocarina, but after Mastering the RetroAchievements set for the latter, I think that opinion may have reversed now. Then again, I have NOT Mastered the Majora set yet, so that reversal may occur once more by the end.

I'm actually surprised people likes the Bunny Hood so much. In My opinion it's completely useless. Goron Mask or Epona is way faster anyways. Or just teleport. And it's too fast in dungeons. So in other words useless.

I'm once again going to answer this. First time: Emulator. I'm a poor guy MM or OoT?: Majora's Mask if it's N64, Ocarina of Time if it's 3DS because the 3DS version of Majora's mask is a disaster. Completion rate?: Beaten the game with all 24 masks, altough not all hearths (almost all, but the last one was too well hidden). You honestly cannot say you have beaten the game without all the masks due to the heavy emphasis on sidequests this game has. Favourite mask: Outside the main 4 ones *the bunny hood* due to how useful it is at closing gaps and movility in general. If we include the main ones i would say *the Zora mask* due to accomplishing the impossible task of making water temples enjoyable... and that's one of the reasons why 3DS is an awful remake. Least favourite one: The frog mask. Tedious to get and underwhelming reward; at least the couple's mask reminds you of how you reunited a couple which is cute. Favourite temple: Stone tower. It just feels so mystical and well elaborated. Least favourite temple: Snowhead temple. It's just a very uncompleted dungeon compared to the other ones.

I tried my best to play through Majoras Mask to the end, but I just don't enjoy playing it at all. I have one dungeon left, but I just can't be bothered. A large turnoff is how only 6 or 7 masks have a recurring function in-game, and so there isn't really much of a reward for the effort. The game feels as rushed as it was, and so the world-building is much weaker, which minimizes immersion and a desire to explore every nook and cranny. I found myself just trying to get through the game rather than experience it fully because the world felt so disjointed and lacking in necessary lore. As well, the bosses are too easy - having collected no extra hearts, I've beaten every boss and miniboss first try - and the dungeons too few and uninspired - the challenge is strictly offered through stray fairy collecting, which would seem worthwhile if the game wasn't so easy - with no sages or anything in particular to explain their existences or necessitation within the world of Termina. I really enjoy the ideas within the game, and the time mechanic. I think it really could've been something amazing if given longer than a year of development time. A neat story behind this game to be sure, but the ideas were stitched together into a Frankenstein that just didn't hit home for me.

People just prefer majoras mask because of one simple reason, Ocarina of Time is the highest rated game for Metacritic lol. Most people will expect soo much for it and get mad after playing it lol.

I 100%'d the game in August and I argue that the Stone Tower Temple is the worst. I hated having to leave the temple to flip the level. Then after you flip it you start on the opposite side so if it's right side up you have to play the elegy of emptiness 3 times to arrange the blocks. Also throughout the temple you have to play that song so many times and wait for the dang statue cutscene every time. Early in the temple there is a ground spot you have to bomb and the game doesn't give you the usual hints like a cracked floor so I just wandered around for several minutes. It's not a fun dungeon, but the boss fight is epic. Also I imagine they fixed these complaints in the 3DS version which may be why it scored higher
