Moral of the Story: Emotionally troubled people subject to getting "Triggered" are time bombs, a threat to themselves and others, and should be brutally suppressed and culled, not unlike livestock, to protect modern civilization. Also: TV Tropes gets a new edit war over if a new entry more properly belongs in "Unfortunate Implications" or "Family-Unfriendly Aesop."

To be fair I think the moral they were going for was that people who are neglected,cutoff, and whose only interaction is with technology can become dangerous and harmful to society as a whole. But it was done in such a ham handed and shallow way and the story itself was beyond uninspired or interesting. In order to make it good we the audience have to give it a lot more credit than it actually deserves. When the story the creators and writers give you should be so good the audience can’t deny it. @MrBrandonbarlow4 жыл бұрын
How would you have explained it?
@Creasy56784 жыл бұрын
@@MrBrandonbarlow Ah, a challenge. Okay, here's one possibility. We know from "Discovery" Season 2 the Klingons attempted to weaponise time. Given the Federation circa 932 years later mentioned a Temporal War, maybe they even succeeded. Discovery had a unique drive system that the Federation has apparently never been able to replicate. The question here, to me, is does anyone really believe the Federation didn't try and build Doomsday Weapons involving time as well? During War, sometimes terrible choices are the only choices. My suggestion would be that the Federation did indeed build a Temporal Weapon which could have and would have changed history and won the war for the Federation before it ever started by altering the past. But... Cause and effect come into play, something has to occur for something else to occur which leads to something else, past, present and future. Trying to rearrange those and getting it wrong? Or even NOT failing to make a working weapon? They failed to alter history because they underestimated the power the bomb would yield when detonated, it drew more and more power whenever it wasn't fully shielded-and it COULDN'T be fully shielded during time travel. When they tried to shift it in the timestream the bomb started sucking power from EVERYWHEN-but the most direct source was the time ship shifting outside of time, powered by a specially modified Dilithium Crystal. The result? The bomb drew power from all of the Dilithium it could reach at once through the ships power core in an effort to reach maximum capacity and detonate, as it was designed to do. This was the Burn, a malfunctioning Superweapon designed to rewrite history on a galactic scale that did only part of what it was meant for. The power that charged it up wasn't the right kind, it was supposed to be charged up with Temporal energy, so when it blew it snarled time and space so severely that even the Q cannot fix it and torched pretty much all Dilithium anywhere in the known galaxy. Everything changed in a second, the time ship managed to get off a distress call in warning but it did no good at all... 150 years ago-ish. As to why even Admiral Vance doesn't seem to know that, for example? Very simple: he doesn't. If the other species of the Milky Way Galaxy EVER discovered what caused the Burn, it means all-out War on an Apocalyptic scale until the Federation and all it's people are either all dust or slaves. The records have been purged, databases wiped, anyone who knows the truth is dead. Any possible traces as a result of time-travel have been dealt with-by any and all means necessary. Section 31 needs to earn it's keep, after all. Only one record exists, that cannot be found since it is revealed only to the Federation President on their inauguration, by a unique individual who cannot be identified, or tracked, who has in their possession that record. These are the stakes...

@@Hylanvahr Well, I mean, it's not like great numbers of the species that had perfected technology using a non-dilithium warp core had immigrated and integrated into one of the UFP's founding members-for 700 years-or anything. And, hell, this is STAR TREK...when has anyone ever used technology in a clever way to get themselves out of a bad situation? That's crazy talk!

The story is bad, most characters are boring or insufferable. The ones that are decent get bad writing that makes them worse. Add in the continuity errors, unnecessary changes to how alien races look along with the darker/gritty esthetic and it is now so far from trek that it isn't watchable. That should have been impossible with this franchise!

See, that's why GOT storylines don't work in Star Trek; every show now a days wants to be the next GOT. Star Trek is real science for fans, and they will analyze everything in depth... in GOT, fans know it's all a fantasy story and will accept inconsistencies in the story.

It bothers me that the Ba'ul are naked. Every other technologically advance species in Star Trek wears clothes. The only one that doesn't is Species 8427 and their tech is bio-organic. It just seems that a race should know how to makes pants before a FTL warp drive.

What the hell is wrong with both Will Wheaton and the actor that plays Saru? Neither act or look quite human. No wonder the one guy makes a good alien. Like, his facial structure itself is not right for a human being, and Will Wheaton is just a cringefest of a man child. Genetics have been fucked with here, people.

Lol I tried to make this case on another channel. The conflict on that planet between two endemic species should’ve fallen under the prime directive. It would be like Vulcans coming to earth and imposing veganism on humans because they met a cow they liked.

Also: What the Ba'ul did to the Kelpiens seems brutal, BUT it wasn't genocide ... at all! I often wonder, if people nowadays even know what "genocide" means, given that the term is misused so often. The Ba'ul could have committed GENOCIDE, back when they got the upper hand, by KILLING THE ENTIRE PEOPLE of the Kelpiens - and given that Saru's people hunted and fed upon the Ba'ul for millennia, who could have blamed them. But they didn't cause the extinction of the Kelpiens, they simply switched the evolutionary script. Actually, the Ba'ul were waaay better than humanity: We were only in a competitive relationship with the Neanderthals, which was enough for us to make them go extinct. The Ba'ul were the prey in a hunter/prey relationship with the Kelpiens and still they didn't kill the Kelpiens but only made sure they wouldn't become predators of their species again. Again the UFP intervened in the evolution of two people on the basis of their assumed moral supremacy.

Do you think the writers know that they keep writing that majority of Starfleet captains and officers keep constantly keep breaking the prime directive that is why i liked Picard he never pulled that bullshit and he never let the senior staff influence him or take bad advice I thought pike was a to the book kinda of captain he gave a power cell to a primitive undeveloped humans on Stargate that shit happened and the used the power source for war

You cut this video to support your logical fallacy. The real interaction goes: Saru: "Yo cannot maintain what you think of as peace by continuing to cull us. Kelpiens are more than our instincts!" Ba'ul: "You are the only two Kelpiens to know the truth. You will undergo analysis and be neutralized. The truth will be contained." So the Ba'ul ADMITS they know the truth that Kelpiens could and can be more than their primal instincts, but genocide is more convenient to them. 🤷🏻♂ So the question is, how does that make them right? Also, the consequence that saving an entire race from systemic genocide causes a catastrophe is another logical fallacy.
