@@ThunderGoatzIf these picked STLs aren't publicized, that should work. The odds of even someone recreating it "perfectly" and ending up with the exact same file size, date or even hash would be astronomically low. Of course if Thomas has the sent email still, he could resend that. MH really should start archiving emails of significance though. Including anything acted upon and anything answered. I'm surprised the company is actually asking to license it instead of just outright steal it like 90% of companies would. Props to that company. If they stole it and Thomas wasn't *at least* a multi-millionaire then there would be 0 chance they would have to go to court--which is sadly exactly always how all inventions go, all you can do is either hope a large company will take you under fairly or sell it and hope that people will buy yours and not the fake.

You're missing a big advantage here. A) no potential legal issues. Even if you win they suck still B) 50k people who never heard of their company now SUPER interested in a product C) a underdog backstory for their product. D) very very high chance of this becoming a viral story if they make the fan. Every benefit listed above, for the price of licensing a fan from a solo developer who isn't going to charge the premium most companies would. This is already decent marketing for that cost, and has the potential to be worth far far more. It's a good business decision.

A few things about Thomas's fan, 1st off, if you can design something that looks that good in just 30 mins, what can you design if you took your time?! 2ndly, making a fan that's practically has nearly the same delta in that same time, what can you do if you had your own testing rig & you just kept at it to improve it, what would you end up with in a few days, a week, & even a months time of testing?! Chances are, you would easily beat that fan hands down! So, what I'm saying is Thomas, you're an OP designer! Great job, & hope for the best with it!

That's awesome that the company wants to work with him. Back in 2004 I started using the front cover of a Mead 5 Star notebook. I cut out that front plastic cover and glued it to an actual mouse pad. It was so slippery you could tap the mouse on it's side and the mouse would glide across the pad. Anyhow, I tried finding out what kind of material the cover was made out of. For 3 years I tried to find something about the material. I even contacted Mead and they told me it was proprietary and couldn't tell me. Then I went to McMaster Car and they didn't have anything like it. So long story shorter, I got fed up and emailed Razer and told them about the 5 Star Notebook. They never got back to me but, a year or 2 or 3 later and now (back then) they have a hard plastic mouse pad, that feels suspiciously like a Mead 5 Star Notebook.

This series has been alot of fun to watch! Awesome that you've helped motivate a fan to invent something and give the design the publicity it needs to possibly be manufactured. I do have one suggestion, though. For each fan (or at least the future ones) Could you weigh them and figure out the RPMs for each? The additional data might help prospective contestants (like myself) create more competitive designs, making the series even more fun!

You put a bowl of acetone in a box, and use the fan to circulate the air inside the box. Pretty sure the result would be amazing since the piece is the actual fan blades, it would smooth the blades and i kinda guess that the performances of the fans would make a huge bound especially for the noise they can make. @@comet.x Gmail cleans up spam periodically on its own assuming it's properly tagged. If it's from Facebook, it should be easy to just unsubscribe from their mailing lists. I've been using Gmail since it went public and never had to delete an email. There's a few times I had to add certain companies to my spam list because they made it near impossible to get off their mailing lists.

Good that you found Thomas. The design is more of a genius than it has any right to be and I only see one obvious way to improve on it. I can't simulate that one before my tensorflow upgrade completes, though.

Wondering if its noctua, other guess would be that is asus and they would implement that fan design into their rog strix designs

I highly doubt it's Noctua unless they tweak it significantly, they are focused on pure performance, they couldn't care less about aesthetics.

He said the company "makes computers" so it could be someone like Corsair who makes everything. Asus makes sense too, since their designs are usually fugly and “pro l33t gamer” focused lol

@starshipeleven he made the design alone without any help this company is gonna make the product he should be getting 60% if he is generous but should demand 75% of the profit unless he sells the design WHICH I TELL YOU NOW THOMAS DON'T SELL JUST GIVE EM RIGHTA TO THEM FOR A YEAR OR 2

@starshipeleven they wouldn't have anything to sell if it wasn't for him this is a noctua competitor the best fan on the market I wouldn't just sell to any company and they better give me a big% since all they have to do is mass produce it

@starshipeleven from an engineering standpoint, it's the complete opposite - they're contacting him mainly because of the near-Noctua performance while being visually aesthetic at the same time. All done by an average person. You can have the coolest looking fan in the world, but if it performs like shit then it's useless.

For your benchmarks consider a 4” duct section after the fan, exiting through a restriction at the end (smaller hole). Tap the duct with a 1/4” port on the top and run a clear tube in a U shape to make a water column to measure static pressure. Consider going full measurement and setup a pitot tube to fully measure your fan testing. I do like your approach to measure the ultimate goal which is heat transfer though.

The Acceleron design is like it is straight out of a SciFi movie, like transformers or so... it looks totally awesome high tech futuristic. While at the same time you proof here that its cooling capabilities are top notch at the same time! So you got a winner on your hands Thomas; way to go bro! Get some good biz advise ;-). My guess is that WE WILL see this design in future graphics cards; this is what gaming enthousiast may want in their case; so manufacturers may get into it.
