Cool compilation. One suggestion is that in the future seasons, you show all fan discs in the frame stopped for just a second before running them.

Hey Major hardware, I have a suggestion if I may. It is very difficult to accurately see how these fans are pushing smoke. If you can, please use a solid color background /side panel (Say white open half-box), place the testing in there, and use contrasting color smoke. If the smoke cannot be colored, then choose a contrasting color for the box. This will definitely step up the testing bench. Thanks, love your channel.

So I don't know anything about fans or 3D printing, but I reckon a Lily Impeller might provide some interesting results, if only because it's such a unique shape. Also, maybe consider looking at the shapes of modern bladed water turbines, to see how they reduce turbulence (and with that, noise) to a minimum. Their buckets are split down the middle by a sharp blade, which might explain why the Acceleron works so well.

For season 2 smoke tests, how about cutting a hole in the side of a box, filling the box with smoke and seeing how fast the fan can empty the box

Fan noise must be measured against metal grids with various types of holes, because sometimes the biggest noise comes not from the fan but from air whistling on holes in the case. Sometimes CFM is low on purpose, because it reduces noise significantly in real environment. Some cases do not support high airflows and high CFMs results in high noise. It is like trying to speak quietly with police whistle in the mouth :).

Visually pleasing to see (most). However I missed a numerical reference to rank flow efficiency - either under no pressure drop (free flow) and through a finned heat exchanger, generating a constant heating power, for instance.

You gotta make a little stand with a black background with an intake tunnel so the smoke leaving the fan is more uniform and not obstructed by the desk

I was thinking I own a tower air purifier/ fan and inside its 3 computer fans that are used to move the air. On high speed it is ok for moving air but can’t expect much from the cheap fans they put inside. So if I where to take it apart and replace the 3 fans with the kind you test that do move air better then I should I turn get better air quality because it’s pulling in air better but more air that I will actually feel?

I have an idea. A fan with 3 sets of 5 blades each getting steeper as it goes down. Starting very shallow then 45 degrees at the last set. Idk

When designing fan remember the tip of the blade move at 45km/h and the center is at 15km/h that's a average and at around 2000 rpm. So fan stall depending of the speed and the angle of the blade... Maybe those numbers can help someone here

Make a rig that shows how much vacuum each blade can produce, like make a chamber and plunger with a force gauge and whatnot. Cool bro
