In the newest Cawl lore book, Cawl has another way to stop the 'Nids using Black Stone. He said that even small amounts can be tuned to basically jam the Hive Mind on planetary or even solar system scale. Even if and when the Hive Mind adapts its appears Black Stone can be retuned and cause the effect again. Essentially psychic ECM techniques against the Hive Minds control. Since it doesn't appear the Hive Mind can permanently and completely adapt to the effect, only adapt to each frequency used in such an attack. Cawl suggested that if used at key moments in battle it could dispute the Hive Mind long enough for Imperial forces to strike mortal if not fatal blows. This would make the Hive Mind skittish and fearful of Black Stone attacks. So it would less aggressive and more methodical to try to mitigate such attacks. The other idea that has been obvious since the beginning and I guess hasn't been used since GW would find it too effective I guess. Is placing Exterminatus grade weapons on planets in the path of a Hive Fleet, but put on Deadman switch. The idea being that once a world falls to the 'Nids the weapon would go off denying the Hive Fleet biomass and destroying all the forces and the expended biomass on the planet. After happening few times this would effectively neutralize splinter fleets as they would have lost too much biomass to continue and have to go into hibernation. Now the Hive Mind would send in Genestealer cults or during attacks actively hunt down such devices to neutralize them. But they could be rigged to go off if tampered with by unauthorized personnel or by the 'Nids themselves. The chance of early detonation, especially in the beginning as this strategy is first used would still be a risk, but it would still make the 'Nids highly skittish and fearful. Since they would know that once they achieved victory they instantly lose and it would hearten defenders if they knew, even if they fall the 'Nid's still lose. Odds are the Hive Mind would be so fearful of such devices and tactics that it have to use Genestealer cults to almost exclusively to take over planets first, to make sure a world had no device or try to deactivate it if possible. Even if the Hive Mind created a new bioform to counter it, if its possible, would still be such a major investment in biomass and make it such obvious target for defenders. Makes it questionable how useful/effective such bioform would be. In the end such a strategy of use doomsday devices on Deadman switches, could also cause major change in behavior as the Hive Fleets would bypass or at least suppress rather than destroy/consume planetary defenders in order to get the rest its biomass transfer towers up. So it could absorb as much biomass from rest of the planet as possible without triggering such devices by killing to many of the planets defenders.

Exactly. Logically speaking the absurd number of Nids in even some of the smaller swarms should make any resistence pointless. The only reason they get defeated at the last moment again and again is the fact that Nids are meant to be "the enemy", hence the protagonists will always somewhat win the day. Even Chaos has a more defined character in the form of literal speaking, well Characters. Meanwhile Nids or the one faction that never allies with anything, they eat whatever stands in their way. Hence they behave less as a faction (within the lore), and more as a form of natural cosmic disaster.

@peterpan4038 Ай бұрын
@@codyvandal2860 Yeah. And i really hope we never get all the answers to our Tyranid lore questions. Because the less you understand about cosmic horror, the scarier it just is (and vice versa!). A strange but nonetheless good example for this are the Borg in Star Trek. At first they didn't negotiate, didn't show any mercy, and simply attacked and assimilated everything and everyone they encountered. THAT was one hell of a scary threat. But over time we learned everything there is to know about them, we and the characters within the story itself figured everything out. Heck, we even got Borgs with personalities like their Queen. That's all really entertaining for a while, but it comes at the price of de-mystifying this unimaginable Threat. Result? The Borg aren't scary anymore, they have become nothing more than a regular old faction in Star Trek lore.

the problem argument that the tyranids are OP if their main fleet arives is that every faction is way more OP once it achieves a certain goal. I don't think the tyranids want their main fleet to arive after; Orks turned back into Krorks, Eldar including drukari and harlequins get a complete Yinead, Necrons unite under the silent king, Chaos reaches Terra again ,or the imperium successfully heals the emperor, and brings him back as a true god or at least is put in a position where it can focus on one threat at a time.

My head canon is this. They are the result of their own warhammer situation in another galaxy. This is what they had to become in order to ultimately win, just this all consuming monstrous tide that now has to strip galaxies bare to survive. Moving from one to another, dwindling between each galaxy, bolstering their numbers each time, but ultimately loosing little by little, feeding on each other in the wide dark and only recovering a portion from the biomass of the galaxies they consume. So there's probably not as many of them as there might seem, but they're desperate, a little tragic, and a horrifying example of what kind of abominations survival at all costs can create.
@thomasdee1980

I agree. I think the nids are the perfect weapon for the old ones to reclaim the galaxy. If all life is purged from the material galaxy, there would only be three factions left, the drukari (who are safe in the webway for a while, but without fresh people to torment would destroy themselves), chaos (who would be safe in the warp for a while but suffer the same fate as the drukari) and the necrons. However, because of bio-transferrance, the necrons cannot reproduce and so if there was a way to permantly kill them they could be whittled down. Once the galaxy has been scoured of life, then the warp will become peaceful over time and be similar to what it was like before the war in heaven

The Tyranids literally rip everyone a new one; including destroying a craftworld, a necron tomb world, multiple Space Marine chapters, the entire black crusade and Roboutte Guilliman's Indomitus Crusade, all because they refused to team up to fight the Tyranids until it was too late. Going back on the whole everyone wouldn't unite factor; BFG II paints a very good picture of why a divided galaxy couldn't hope to beat the Tyranids without some kind of plot armor BS backing them up.

The Flood from Halo. Imagine a Flood infested Tyranid Hive Ship, the infection rate for the Flood would be near infinite in speed. And as the Flood adapt faster and with less effort than the Nids, the Flood could easily overwhelm the Tyranids in a war of attrition as the Flood can consume the biomass of the Tyranids, but the Nids can't consume the Flood or else they'll get infected.

Also how is it possible for tiranids to loose biomass if they consume planet anyway, it's not like their dead poof out of existence so in worst case scenario they should loose nothing and gain nothing.

Only biomass. Most larger bio ships are actually bigger than even the biggest ships the imperium has. And those ships are bassically smaller countries. A single planet COULD make a continent or a little bigger sized ship but its far more efficient to make a small splinter fleet of large bio ships then huge vessels that would be more vulnarable to wide scale bio weaponry or such.

Honestly, the Tyranids are bluntly trying to OM NOM NOM the Milky Way like as if they were playing a StarCraft II: Heart of the Swarm longplay. Having Sly Marbo kill the Hive Mind outright (like in the pinned comment's example) is equivalent to nuking the only Level 3 Zerg Hatchery they had. It'd *_DEFINITELY_* set them back - but I'd not be surprised if they were capable of abracadabra-ing a new one. In fact, the Zerg tried to huddle together some of their Cerebrates to rebuild the Overmind during the Brood War - only for the attempt to be sabotaged by Kerrigan's ragtag alliance of her loyalists' brood, the UEF, the Terran Dominion, Raynor's Raiders, and the combined Protoss of the Daelaam & Nerazim... (whom she and the Zerg all stabbed in the back in a horrific massacre shortly afterwards...)

@@Enja_Near The hivemind is basically being relayed by the Tyranids' armies like as if their "heroes" give off those much-needed combat auras. The thing is... those auras are being BROADCASTED - as in the Hive Tyrants and likewise of the Tyranid Swarms are basically Elites and Brutes compared to the Grunts. Kill them, and the small guys are easy pickings. Not to mention, it's safe to assume there's an even bigger fish that's transmitting that aura to the "Elites & Brutes" to begin with. That's what we're thinking about throwing Sly Marbo at. Idk if that was what Majorkill had in mind, but this is definitely one of my spins on the take. lmfao

I think GW is suffering from the same issues that GRRM and the GOT writers did that they made the White walkers so obscenely Overpowered and unstoppable to the point that any kind of Solution to defeating them just came across as cheap and everyone involved just had plot armor. They have wrote themselves into a corner of which they can’t really write there way out off, It’s a major problem that you suffer if you jerk off your big bads too much and get too high from huffing that grimdark gas, Nothing short of the Chaos gods, the Ctan or the Emperor HIMSELF can realistically stop the Tyranids at this point and that is just about the most plot Armored thing you can do.

They can at least be consistently delayed by things, necrons are a giant threat to them, nurgle is very effective against them, and orks could go for a octarius rematch. Especially because if orks were allowed to reach war of the beast level they would be smart enough to make allies with other factions, and if the overfiend didn't die he would be approaching that level, he was already strong enough that they weren't able to 1v1 him and it he had some strong body guards he wouldn't have been weakened enough to get killed. Nurgle is also a huge threat, the imperium could make a deal with death guard or chaos cults to let them take planets about to fall to nids, that way any fleet which consumes the planet will be infected and killed, this is a win win, nurgle gets to try new diseases that target nids, and the nids get killed which puts less pressure on the imperium. And nurgle wouldn't want to betray the imperium too quickly because getting additional real space planets and followers will put him ahead in the great game.

I did not know the part about being able to bring back devoured world through teraforming. So here's a bright idea, teach the tyranids how to terraform, it would be like teaching them farming. Then I'm sure they will just nom on them and not the rest of the galaxy, and it would in no way or form go horribly wrong ;) I would though be careful about giving a race as adaptable and able to rapidly make new weapons through evolution like tyranids to many good ideas to copy and use against the galaxy when it comes to bioweapons, also the part about why tyranids can't handle 2 different opponents at once never made sense to me when they are supposed to be super adaptable, and they create hive fleets that are specialised to fight specific. So they could combine them sorta like they do with Kronos, where other fleets go out of their way to kept them fed, while Kronos fight chaos demons, though the exact details on how Kronos exactly are different a bit iffy. For a super adaptable race that supposedly can make new bioforms within hours or days like zoantrhopes or biotitan after they had their first runin with other races titans, they now had hundreds of years to evolve, and not really all that much to show for it . Besides I bet that when/if they ever have to kill off the nids they will pull a psychic attack thingy like they did in war of the beast, and just wave they fingeres and the problem wil magically go away, through space magic.

I know the answer is yes before even seeing the video, and the only faction that can defeat the Tyranids are the Necrons. If Tyranids are dumb enough to wake the Necrons from invading the Tomb Worlds, Necrons will obliterate them one by one with the Gauss weapons. Gauss weapons can destroy bioforms and vaporize them, and a Necron warrior is made of metal, so the Tyranids can't assimilate them. Longer a battle between Necrons and Tyranids drags on, the less Tyranids can come because of the vaporized and now non-existent biomass.

I like to think that the 11th or 2nd was a Female, the last bit of defiance by Astarte but anyway.... The 11th & 2nd started procreating but since it was so early on in the Crusade. Not all the Primarch's Marines were with them. Long end of the short. One of them was considered the corrupting one, probably the female one & she along with her literal kid legionaries fled the galaxy. The other one was considered a failure. In any event the naturally born Space Marines either with or without their Primarch fled the galaxy. While outside the Milky Way. They came in contact with a Xenos species that infected them and caused rapid evolution in the legion. Eventually the infection caused them to transform into what we would call Tyranids. Or I also like the idea of the Emperor being responsible for the Tyranids. Basically early in the crusade or during the height of mankind's technological achievement. The Emperor came upon a world of human xeno cooperation. Cooperation that involved the hybridization between the species. Essentially the same thing as the Technological Cults of Mars, only in a biological direction. Some of these hybrids were able to escape because the Emperor had not yet come to realize. That sometimes you just have to issue the exterminatus order. Which would play beautifully into his interactions with Corax & highlight his hypocrisy with The Night Lord.

another way for the Tyranids to no longer become a direct threat to the galaxy force feed them an Alpha + Psycher and an Omega - Blank at the same time these powerrfull genes will be passed around the hivemind, creating UBER powerful nids however - Alpha gene individualism and pride would force the nids with that gene to break free from the hive mind, and have them cause internal power struggles as they take over the hive mind from the inside - Omega gene, would have nids kill themselves out of the "yich factor", followed by the surviving Omega nids, becoming SO anti establishment, they begin to destroy the WHOLE HIVE from the Inside eventually all this internall struggle will atract Slanesh which will murderfuck the species collective soul and with that, the dark eldar will get a short breather hopefuly this internal powerstuggle will atract the rest of the chaos gods, or distract them, long enough for most chaos marines to lose their major powersource giving the imperium a little headway in ridding themselves of those heretics and with it we'd have a MAJOR change in the Deceaver's plans

The Tyranids shouldn't even be a thing. I'll elaborate. The Tyranids consume organic matter... but the origin of all practically all organic matter is photosynthesis. Their approach is monstrously inefficient and should absolutely not manifest on this scale. Logically they should not attack anyone but grow organic Dyson spheres. That would be an absolute net gain, while every battle costs at the least some biomatter just to generate energy - and they consume enormous amounts. There aee also compounds that simply destroy any organic material on a molecular level; it is inherently impossible to develop an organic defense against it. Chlorine trifluoride being an excellent example. But it doesn't really matter. It's just absurd in theory. But GW wanted xenomorphs, so they just made them.

The tyranids would be their own worst enemy. It isn't like you just stomp everything and suck it all back up. Your troops use energy that will not be given back. The other side does as well. Munitions, food, fire, explosions. All that is going to waste a resource they could have had. Do you know how hard it would be to generate an explosion in your arm to go the speed of a bullet? Its ridiculous. Not only that but you have to build the thing to wistand the pressure of all of it. Carry the ammo and how the hell do they reload? I think tyranids are the dumbest thing if you think of logistics. Your long range would deplete ammo all the time and if you look at organisms the have have weapons that are expendable (snake venom) it takes days or weeks before it comes back. Their whole premise is silly. Just drop some 40k nukes mid invasion and their fleet is toast. All those resources expended with no gain. If it happened once it would cripple a good portion of what they had.

Tyranids shadow in the warp can disrupt and break necron technology as of one of Trazyns novels, so its possible that making a strong enough synapse creature and just existing in the pariah nexus could break it apart pylon by pylon.

What if humanity finds the lost tech of the Golden Age, like Nanomite Worms that literally devour space and time to create rifts in reality which implied to be one of the ways to jump from one location to another instantaneously. Or lost tech of the Golden Age like those who devour stars and use that devoured energy to fry a system full of hostile xenos. Or even the peak men of iron...🤔 Im still new to 40k but i always love some what if scenario where the current imperium finally takes off their technology paranoia and adapts the old research from the golden age which they had considered to be heresy. I still remember how a civilian ship from the Golden Age managed to humiliate a squad of space marines and their imperial navy while also taking no damage.

Say, Majorkill, what if you sic a bunch of Culexus assassins & other blanks to hunt down & kill the synapse creatures who will afterwards then focus on exterminating the Norn queens? What do you think?

Umm couldn’t the Necrons use the Celestial Orrery to wipe out a significant portion of the Tyranids?? Or atleast hold them back at the outer reaches of the galaxy?? Pretty sure a hive fleet cant adapt to, nor defend against a Super Novae…
