These ukes are virtually identical. The Makala brand is Kala's "sub" brand.
EDIT: I incorrectly stated that Acacia was an "Eastern Mahogany". Nato wood is Eastern Mahogany. Acacia is a type of Mimosa.
Makala MK-S:
Acacia construction (laminate)
Cream colored plastic tuning knobs
Lower quality strings
Price: I paid $59.95 at a local music shop. It was pretty much a starter set, with a quick-start pamphlet, a pitch pipe, and a pretty decent padded gig bag.
Kala KA15-S:
Mahogany construction (laminate)
Pearl-look ("pearloid") tuning knobs
Premium Aquila Nylgut strings
Price: I paid $60 even at the same music shop. It was open box, no paperwork or anything, just the uke right off the display.
And for kicks I thought I would toss in what I know about the Kala KA-S:
Pretty much the same as the KA15-S but with a nice ivory colored binding around the top and bottom of the body.
