If a uke is $40 does that mean it’s cheap
@OneMusicSchool
@OneMusicSchool 4 жыл бұрын
Well, look at the overall construction. I haven’t had great experiences with $40 ukes, but you could find a gem here and there. If you’ve played it, you like it, it holds its tuning, and it’s working for you, go for it. If you’re willing to save for a little longer, you could find a nice Kala for $25-$30 more. You do what’s best for you 😀.

This was great, thanks, I have been researching "how do you play bb minor on ukulele?" for a while now, and I think this has helped. Have you ever come across - Fenaylern Nonpareil Formula - (should be on google have a look ) ? It is a good one off product for discovering how to play the ukulele like a pro minus the normal expense. Ive heard some amazing things about it and my co-worker got excellent success with it.

Thank you for the video. I hope you have a good day too. (I love the tones too! It sounded cheerful and sweet. My first Ukulele was a Journey UC310 concert. It has a solid mahogany top and laminate back and sides. The only real issue was that it needed a setup since the strings were really high. Once setup I changed the strings to Martin fluorocarbon and the ukulele sounded fantastic and highly recommended.

You are so incredibly positive and it's inspiring and wonderful and a joy to see. When I started playing guitar at 9 years old I took lessons at the local music store. He was a great guitar player but he was extremely grim and unfriendly. He was a Spanish fellow who took everything very seriously and he didn't like me for some reason. Probably because I was the only one with steel string guitar while the others played a classical. Or something. I'm not sure. But his negativity could have dissuaded me from playing guitar. When I look back on it it amazes me that I actually persisted and continued with the guitar despite that not so great initial impression from that teacher. If I had had a teacher as positive as you I'm sure it would have made a world of difference. You are really sparking and helping people and improving their lives with your wonderful skills but also your amazing character and professionalism. I'm sure you've heard this from your students but let me just say you are a wonderful teacher. Thank you very much.

I am enjoying your videos. I am brand new to the uke world. Received my 1st one 4 days ago (the Waterman because I didn't want to spend a lot of money up front to try it out and I live in SW Florida and can always get some use out of it out on the paddleboard, etc.) I have already decided it's time to upgrade and have ordered the Enya EUC MAD concert. I am a professional woodwind musician but needed an instrument to use for singalongs with a special needs population I will be working with - you can't sing and play a ww instrument at the same time) and keyboards are really just a pain to haul around. I thought "what the heck, this might work." I am completely obsessed and can't wait to become proficient. Thanks for sharing your knowledge.

Love your review of the Cordoba range so much I bought the 25T-CE as I wanted an electric tenor to sit along side my acoustic Mainland Tenor. Until recently I have enjoyed playing the Cordoba with re-entrant tuning (my Mainland has a low G). A few weeks ago I decided to switch the Cordoba to low G and the tone seemed to lift quite noticeably; so much so I can hardly put it down. Thanks again.

Great video. I started with a Hal Leonard Ukulele starter pack for my birthday. I sort of wish I still had that instrument. I lent it to someone and they never gave it back. Anyways it didn't take long for me to want something better and of course, set up. That Christmas (six months later) I got a Solid Mahogany Concert by Kala from the Ukulele Site. I went with the Ukulele Site because of their instrument sound samples. I listened to all the ukes in my price range and it was the warmness of the solid mahogany that won me over. I started a ukulele group and most of us play Kalas.

I started with the Córdoba 15cm very nice. I also purchased a Mitchell soprano MU40 for my daughter who decided she didn’t want it. I played both for a while and found it easier to form cord shapes on the soprano but it had a buzz to it and finally lent it to my nephew so I could get a bit nicer soprano. I picked a Lanikai which I’m very happy with although I haven’t been playing it long. No more buzz while playing

This is a great overview for new beginners, great Job. Here are my thoughts and comments after watching it again today. 1. While in general with Soprano ukuleles, as you said, being smaller people find their hands can feel cramped, having a wider neck can help make them less cramped for people with bigger hands. 2. Plastic is not always found on cheap travel ukes, while some are, like the Kala waterman, Makala Dolphin/Shark, Kala Ukeadelic, some of the Enya uke models, other ukes like Ovation, Flea, Fluke, and Outdoor ukuleles are not cheap these more expensive ones tend to have ABS plastic. 3. Laminate Vrs Solid wood: generally with laminate they will be less likely to crack due to temperature varying. Also the tone will stay the same as when you buy it. With solid ukuleles they can be a bit more prone to cracking in extreme temperatures, but a good thing is the sound bets enter and improves with age.

The Makala Dolphin and Shark ukuleles are usually excellent for the price as a starter uke. The Makala Waterman ukes sound like a toy compared to other ukes. Also the Kala ukeadelic, both the original plastic and wooden models, are great too. I always would recommend 2 strap buttons and a guitar strap on all ukes, makes it easier to play.

I have one of the Flight Travel Soprano ukuleles and I love it. It's great. I very much like the tone of it. It's lightweight. It's cute. It's pretty. It can't ever get fret sprout because the neck and the frets are all made of plastic. It isn't to say I wouldn't get a wooden uke one day and perhaps face that issue, but for now I'm very pleased with my Flight Travel uke and I believe I'd always want to have one (meaning down the line when I might have more than one uke, I'd always want to have a Flight Travel as one of them. For now, it is my one and only and I'm happy I chose it to start with.) I also like the tone of it more than I like some of the wooden ones, and I prefer it over some ukes that cost more. Great video, Katie. I've very much enjoyed it!! XOXO

Hey Katie, thank you for this video. It was great. A brand that makes solid Ukuleles from the least expensive to the more expensive is Eddy Finn. They are very reasonably price $30ish to about $130 dollars. They are a great beginner as well intermediate. Most of my students have started and continued with these ukulele. I love them personally and I tend to go to them more often than to my more expensive ones. For what ever this is worth. Have a great day and enjoy ukuleleing!!! (if that is a word???)

Nice selection. As my first ukulele I bought a Kala KA-T tenor, quality build, very well finished and sounds great. I like the tone of baritone and larger fret space, but it sounds more like a guitar than a ukulele, and since I already play guitar, it was not on the list.

Great video! Tons of info that will help even if someone already has owned a couple ukuleles. I have to ask, what is your personal favorite ukulele? If you could have one what would it be? Also, what is your favorite ukulele below $200? And why?

Hi! I can’t remember if I already commented on this video or not because I have seen it too many times! I I was wondering that if I were to get a Tenor, would I still be able to play the same songs that I am currently playing on the soprano? Like would your under the sea, or Hakuna Matata tutorials still work on a tenor? Thanks! (Also anyone else reading this feel free to reply and help as well!)

Hello there, I am not only visually impaired, but I am a music person and I’m about to start learning the ukulele myself, a friend of mine just came back from Hawaii and I’m just super anxious to have a ukulele as part of my musical instrument collection. I currently have two sets of guitars. But definitely the ukulele is next.

I can't decide between the Mandy Harvey or the Cordoba 20TM tenor ukulele. Which one would you recommend? I know both are great options but i want the best one...

I've spent many hours reading articles and watching videos. I know I need to get to the store and actually try some out. Do you think a laminate like Kala KA15 or similar laminate is ok for a first ukulele. Or Kohala KPP 2? I'm not sure if I'm ready to get a solid hardwood that needs a humidifier. Hopefully I will like the sound of the laminates enough. Someone suggested definitely laminate or plastic for a first uke. There is no way I will buy a plastic instrument lol. I want something I won't take too seriously but with a nice enough sound that'll keep me playing. My favorite so far is a Kanilea but I need to wait for that! Or maybe something in between like an Ohana SK38?

Hello! I was originally planning on purchasing the cordoba 15cm but cannot find it at a reasonable price locally. So instead, I would like to buy a kala concert uke. Could you please recommend between the kala exotic concert ukulele KA-CEM, or the kala KA-C Mahogany concert uke. Thanks!

I am building a Tenor Ukelele but to have something to play as I work towards completion I bought a Uke on EBay. I had actually wanted a Tenor, but no seller of Tenor Ukes seemed to be willing to mail to my P.O. Box. Out of desperation I bought a well reviewed Mitchell MU40C concert sized Uke for the ridiculous price of $28. As I opened the box today I was wondering goat or win? I would call it a win. It has a nice tone with a nice sustain in the low end. Considering its not made from tonewood costing $200 for the soundboard it was almost unreal how well it sounded. The over all build pattern was nice too. While it does not have a fancy bookmarked grain pattern and is somewhat uniform in appearance along with a satin finish I still think it looks nice; besides sound counts not appearances.

Lovely and informative tour through affordable ukes. I'm looking for a uke for my granddaughter, who is fascinated with my ukes. She's 2 1/2, going on 14! Just for size I'm thinking of looking at sopranino ukes. She can strum, but not much more. But she is entranced.

This is an awesome video. I play piano and have always want to play guitar but sadly my fingers are too fat and short so I was thinking of this instrument. Something you didn’t address is left handed or right handed, which is my dilemma. I am left handed but bat a ball, bowl and shoot a gun with my right hand. What do you think I should get?

I just got a Kala KA-CEM RW concert uke and I am in LOVE!!! 😍🥰 I've only ever owned soprano ukes before, so it's going to be a bit of a learning curve, but it has such a full sound! It's a bit on the pricier side but SOOO worth it!!!

Hi and thanks for watching. I have a second video about how to upgrade your uke. It has a section on pickups and electronics. I’ll link it for you. How to upgrade your uke- kzbin.info/www/bejne/govOin6GnLJppcU In my personal opinion, I would say that 6 and 8 string ukes wouldn’t be a good choice for a beginner. Even though they have octave strings and you would use the same finger placements as a standard uke, you’d be pushing down on two strings with one finger rather than one. I would say, stick to a standard 4 string uke. Once you get used to that, you can move over to a 6 or 8 string. They do sound pretty with the extra strings, but my advice would be to just stick with a 4 string and upgrade to one with 6 or more strings. I hope that helps.

I’m torn between the Córdoba 24C and 25C! I’ve seen both on your channel, and love the sound of each for different reasons-what’s your preference? Even if it’s biased/personal, I’d appreciate the wisdom since I can’t go to the store and try them for myself! ❤️❤️❤️

Oooo, I would be torn as well! I personally own the 25 C is acacia and the 24 C has the solid top cedar and spalted maple back and sides. Aciacia has a forward tone with lots of mids and I would describe cedar as mellow and warm. I personally like the acacia tone and the way it looks because it's so classic and timeless. Let me kow what you choose :).
