You can definitely make a lot of money hauling expedited freight. However, I WOULD NOT recommend anyone sell themselves short and just get a Class B with an air brakes endorsement. If you're gonna take the time to get a CDL you may as well go ALL THE WAY! Get the Class A CDL with all of the endorsements. Even if you never drive a semi, get it anyway! That way you are not limiting your income earning potential. If the lane you're in begins to slow up you can transition into another lane with ease. All you'll need is training on the equipment, but you'll be qualified to drive any CMV. Stay blessed, stay safe and keep grindin!

You should apply yourself and just go for it. Bisk risk big rewards. I'm going on my third year but I had to gain Otr experience as a team driver my 1st year although I've been a class b holder since 2012. Before and when I got started I was told many thing's about expediting and rumors of not making money as a solo. I had to find out what was true and what wasn't for myself. As a solo driver and 1099 I actually make more money than I did as a team driver and less work. I also make just as much if not more money than some 18 wheelers. I also stay on the road more than other's so everyone's situation has different variables to it. My suggestion don't listen to negative Nancy's who always have something Discouraging to say because they're situation didn't turn out good. Be fearless and just do it. My biggest regret is that I didn't do this years ago. Much success to you.

But he did specifically say he's looking for people straight out of school, or someone that can obtain a class B cdl. Great start for someone that might have had some on the job training to drive a dump truck or something.
@theflightclubworldwide99833 жыл бұрын
He clearly said you'll make the same money but drive less. I drove expedited with a Class A CDL and I can attest that you do make WAY more, working Way less. The real money is when you're hauling military loads or refrigerated pharmaceutical loads... Also if you notice he said the FIRST year you'll gross $120k driving 3,000 mi per week as a team. You'll have to drive a least 3,000 mi per weak as a solo driver or 5,500+ per week as a team to see significant income.

40% of the load goes to the truck. 40% goes to the drivers (to split, fuel paid by the drivers). So if they make $1500 a week each driver - that means the truck is getting $75000 a year easily. Figure 4 years to pay $300,000 or 6 years pays $450,000. So it doesn’t take as long to make money to pay for that rig. Also consider they are driving much shorter distances than most trucks. So that truck will logically last many more years than typical OTR sleeping rigs.

Expediter has a program to help new fleetowners for their driver's. You can try Load One, Expeditus, or Tri-State as a solo driver. The smaller companies usually have very unprofessional dispatching services so be diligent in your research. W2 driver's starting out average 800 to 1100 depending on the company and circumstance. Me personally I only drive as a independent contractor it's a huge difference in pay and I do fine with taxes.

I've always loved the idea of Expeditor trucks but why not grab a truck UNDER 26,000 where you don't have to have ANY special license, yank the box and find a smaller one, and then custom fit a decent sized sleeper off of a wrecked truck or something along those lines? After all, it's extremely rare to see one of those boxes over 20' long because they always have a massive sleeper in front of them!!! Or just grab a regular box truck that might already have a sleeper custom built on to it? Or maybe grab some type of motorhome toter that already has a sleeper and then put a box behind it where the hitch/5th wheel usually are? Also being this kind of work where you need to get stuff to customers A.S.A.P. if you had one of the lighter trucks, you would be exempt of weigh stations holding you up!!!

I got into expidite freight after driving class A for owners who lied, cheated and did not pay me. My truck is a stick, most expidite trucks are automatic. I go home whenever I want, for as long as I want. Bought my truck used from a fleet owner, sunk a ton of money into it to fix it up, leased on as a single owner operator and have been happy with the money and lifestyle so far. Never made this kind of money driving Class A and a lot less problems to deal with. I have 30K in my old truck, it's paid for and no way I'm dropping over 200K on a new truck right now. It has no fancy options, no APU, no fridge, no sink or running water and a small 84 inch sleeper. I'm fine with that. You can make good money with a 10 year old truck if you can do maintenance and repair yourself. I met The Crafty Couple and saw Frank at Expo last summer I'm 58 now and after several different careers will be doing this till I retire. Will be replacing my old truck soon, but with a good used one to get me there. BTW. I like my downtime and my freedom. If you do, this might be for you.
