Holy crap Cris, I love this project. Awesome to see a completely mechanical pinball table. Would love to hear more about the game design - does the ball cross over to the other player's table? Or do you play two simultaneous games?
@GetHandsDirty7 жыл бұрын
+Make: Thank you very much!! Yes, the ball travels to the other table side, depending on the angle you hit it. You can came up with your own rules but what we are going for here is that both players start with too balls - one hidden in one of the cross spinning obstable and one being pushed by the plunger, starting at the same time. At almost every take, at least one ball ends up going the other side so if both players loose 2 balls at the flippers, we score it 1 - 1. If player A looses 3 or 4 balls, the point goes to player B, so 0 - 1. Progressively add points until one of them get to 5. Then, the winner stays and another player faces the winner.

+Garage Loot there is actually a 2player pinball machine from the 80's or 70's in the pinball hall of fame

did anyone say it was something new or revolutionary though? the point of this was to give a new look to a pinball game, which is exactly what she did. it's made of different materials, it has a personalized look and it's analogic. the 2 player part is also different because we can switch the rules however we want - 1 ball, or 2, or 3 or 4 in the same gameplay, etc. if you had one exactly like this one, show us then.

Not sure if anyone said this already (I'm not sure how to search comments), but the cracks in acrylic you reference is called "crazing". It occurs because of uneven heat stresses introduced into the material during cutting. The heating and cooling puts the cut edge under tension. It's very common in laser cutting but can occur when any process (even sanding.) Solvents like acetone and alcohol will soften the acrylic enough to release the tension in the form of tiny cracks. The only way to avoid it is to keep the material cool during cutting, anneal it afterwards (a slow heating process that requires a timed oven), remove the heat stressed edge (with a router or jointer, but while not adding new stresses,) or avoid the use of solvents. Unfortunately, all acrylic glues, CA and its activator, alcohol and especially acetone will cause this. A safe solvent is naphtha though it may not be available in all countries. They sell it here in the same section as paint solvents. Epoxy is probably a safe adhesive though I'm not 100% sure, CA is better than acrylic glues, but can still cause it. Cast acrylic is more resistant to this than extruded. Mirror acrylic is always extruded.

Cool stuff! Reminds me of NES's Rock 'N Ball game. In that game there is an option to move the flippers into a more offensive mode where there are flippers on the opponents side of the board. It would be cool as a trade off to have a forward flipper to put pressure on the opponent when the ball is on their side.
