Heavenschild77 thank you I’m glad it was helpful. I will have another video soon on another way I have been making them. I wouldn’t worry about not having a air pressured staple gun. I do a lot of upholstery so it was worth me getting one but I also used to do this with a hand staple gun. Just make sure whatever wood you are stapling isn’t too hard like plywood as sometimes the staples might not go in
@Heavenschild77
@Heavenschild77 4 жыл бұрын
Eighty One Vintage Aww brilliant that’s a relief. And cool, I’ll keep my eye out for the new video. Also, is plywood ok? I was worried if someone stood on it it may snap? Isn’t it a brittle kinda material? But then I don’t know much about different types of woods. Thanks for the response I really appreciate that. You’ve really put my mind at rest 😃👍🏼

What size was your wooden base and legs did you use in this video?
@EightyOneVintage
@EightyOneVintage 6 жыл бұрын
The wooden base was approx 40 x 50 cm but I usually just measure the foam I have and find the biggest rectangle. You can then cut the foam with a large breadknife or an electric meat slicer is even better! These legs were approx 18 cm tall and I took them off an old cabinet. I have also used bun feet in the past, from old pieces of furniture (although you can buy them) and they make lovely low footstools.

You should've shown us how much of the top fabric you cut off, for rounding under, and around the leg area corner, how does one do it? Did you unscrew the legs to get the fabric to sit perfectly, this is the aesthetic part of the finished product. Also, would you please show the procedure of fitting the black material to overlap the top fabric, and align it, especially around the leg area to give that professional finish. This is the most important part of the work... the other areas are straight forward. Thank you.

BeatlesFanSonia - we usually can only sell them for about £25 in our area which is a steal :)
@lyricwritertoo

Eighty One Vintage wow that is a steal. Here in southern calif I would be hard pressed to make it for $50 to $100 but in some areas people would pay double. But its why I recycle mostly clothing but planning on some furniture make overs and this would be easy, well with a good staple gun.
@lilolmecj
@lilolmecj 5 жыл бұрын
A hand stapler WILL NOT do just as well! They are so hard to use. 😀 I was lucky enough to be gifted an air stapler, but for $120. You can get an inexpensive staple gun and small air compressor.

how much did the stool cost you to make?

How much would this project cost ?
@EightyOneVintage
@EightyOneVintage 5 жыл бұрын
The most costly parts are usually the feet and the foam. I usually get my feet from old pieces of furniture so they come free. The foam I usually get from old sofas people are throwing away. If you ask on Facebook usually someone has a sofa they are planning to get rid of that you can take the foam from and then you can cut it to size :)

The music is unnecessary, distracting, unrelated to the subject, just plain irritating, AND occasionally makes the narration hard to understand. This is an instructional upholstery video--why would it need added music?👎 And hey, we're not upholsters--telling us to 'attach the legs' is not helpful.
@EightyOneVintage
@EightyOneVintage 5 жыл бұрын
Hi thanks for the feedback. I will consider not adding music on future videos. Attaching the legs is different depending on what legs you use. I usually screw the feet to the board from the inside making sure to sandwich the black fabric for later.
@plucas9324
@plucas9324 5 жыл бұрын
@its.me Well, had you given it even 30 seconds of thought, you would have realized that a total novice (such as I am) who needs directions to make this project would need some direction as to how the legs are attached. Do I drill a hole through the board and use legs with an attached bolt? Should I put a wood screw through the board and into the leg? Are there other methods? What will make it the most sturdy? At what point in the assembly are the various types of legs attached? I'm inexperienced, not stupid.
@plucas9324
@plucas9324 5 жыл бұрын
@its.me This entire project would be obvious to anyone who had ever done anything similar. Using the "well, it's obvious" criteria, the presenter could have just said "attach the fabric to the board." If I was teaching a complete beginner how to do an elementary plumbing project, and said "prepare the pipe sections for joining" or "attach pipe hangars as needed," I would expect my student to call me on it.
@plucas9324

@its.me Ah, yes--the refuge of the less intelligent--don't address the point or issue, just fling a parting shot and scurry off, defeated.
