Thanks for making this video, I decided to make a prop myself. The result can be seen on my channel. I tagged your channel in the description! Thanks again for the inspiration!

I'm trying to find a prop switchblade that not only folds out but retracts for the purposes of onstage fighting.
@thegeekgarage2 жыл бұрын
I don’t believe the old switchblades opened AND closed with the switch, but what one could do is get an automatic OTF (out the front) blade. Dismantle it and remove the metal blade and replace it with a safe rubber blade if it’ll be used in fighting action or if it’s just for show on stage you could just blunt the original blade for safety, but again, if there’s and fight choreography you should replace the blade with something soft and safe.

So like a retractable prop? So you want it to open and goes in the handle for he purpose of onstage fighting right?
@danieljferguson Жыл бұрын
@@MangoJellyBean1 Yep! Fold out when you flick it, but retract inward on a spring maybe?
@thepenultimateninja579711 ай бұрын
@@danieljferguson There are certain single-action OTF knives that could be modified to work how you describe. The trick would be to modify the locking mechanism so that it only locked the blade in, not out.

I'm considering buying the exact same model. unfortunately, i've never used any powered tool, including grinder, beyond drill in my life. would it be difficult for me to grind the comb's outline and alter its shape into something like 'trainer balisong without holes inside blade'?
@thegeekgarage3 ай бұрын
So you want to use the same model switchblade comb but do a different shaped blade than a standard stiletto, is that right? I'm not familiar with the shape of a "trainer balisong" can you describe it or post a link? Either way, I'd definitely say a Dremel is a great entry level multipurpose tool that is great to have if you're getting into prop making :)

Still trying to get it made 🫤 the pandemic threw a monkey wrench into our production, then the SAG strike, now we need to find new financiers. You can read about it here tho: deadline.com/2022/04/actor-matthew-lillard-and-director-bill-whirity-create-1235003369/

You could have just gotten a real one and just dual the edge and round the tip.

Yup, you can do that too but that's a pretty boring tutorial 😴

@@alphabet-tt8yh ACTUALLY only the act of importing it into the country is a legal grey area so if you go to one of those gift shops that already have them in stock and buy it, it then it becomes legal to own as long you have no state level laws against them where you are since you weren't the one that imported it. They also can't prove the store owner imported it and didn't get a box of them from someone else so those places are rarely shutdown. Which is why the Switchblade Act is a complete waste of everyone's time that should be abolished and you can still find imported Chinese switchblades all over the place from entire shipments slipping through the cracks to mall ninja stores and flea market stall owners. It's effectivity one of the few laws I've ever seen that actually does nothing to prohibit an item because under the letter of it's wording the item is defacto legal once it's been smuggled in and passed through hands in a legal sale.
