Amazing work. Just wanted to say to anyone who is hesitant at doing this for a different model that the holes at the back are VESA, which is a standard mounting bracket. Any TV or monitor that has VESA (most monitors do) can use these plans.

Nice job Steve. You probably know already - but didn't show it - that it is worth trying to find the right nut for a thread to be cut short, and screw it onto the bolt before cutting it and tidying up the end with a file. As the nut is removed, it forms the thread nicely at the cut off,.
@SteveCarmichael6 жыл бұрын
Hi Don - Thanks! That's a nice tip! I haven't done that before, but wish I had thought of it. I sanded the end of the cut bolt to a taper, but I don't think I showed it in the video.

Hey ..that was awesome...it'd be really cool if you could just show us the mechanism for the up down tilting..!!
@SteveCarmichael5 жыл бұрын
Thanks! It doesn't tilt, just slides up and down to change the height. I did go back and cut the bottom of the upright piece at a slight angle to lean it back a little.
@schatz1935 жыл бұрын
Sorry to bother you again..but could you tell how the height adjustment thing works...I understand the knob screwing to the mounting bracket but how does it remain in a certain height in the slot...does it not fall down...I mean what is the width of the slot..and after sometime won't the screw eat at the wood so that the height adjustment becomes loose..
@SteveCarmichael5 жыл бұрын
The upright piece on the stand has a slot in it. The bolt on the knob goes through the slot and into the threaded insert. This allows the TV to slide up and down the slot and swivel left and right. When you position it where you want it, you just tighten the knob. The mount and the upright have a lot of surface area that touches each other, creating a friction hold. A large washer between the knob and the upright piece prevents any wood eating. The slot is the same width as the bolt, but sanded some so the bolt slides freely.
@schatz1935 жыл бұрын

Tip. Put a nut on the 1/4 x 20 bit before cutting it. Then after you cut the bolt you turn the nut off to fix the threads where the cut was made.

I believe the 10 x 10 cm mounting pattern should be universal for TV monitors of that size Steve. Shouldn't need a need to adjust the spread of the bolt holes unless going to a much larger TV. Screws should be M4 and the length is equal to the thickness of bracket + 7.4mm..en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Flat_Display_Mounting_Interface

maybe you can do a VESA adjustable angle arm and height for monitor. my eyes are 60cm of distance with the panel and monitor 16 to 17cm of the wall. i want both monitors alined. i don't had the space and my Samsung can fall to the floor because i had a desktop with a level and the 2 monitors.
@SteveCarmichael5 жыл бұрын
I still use this stand on my monitor. I was going to make it more adjustable, but thought as long as I get it how I want it, I would never adjust it. It's still the same position as when I made the stand. I did have to cut a slight angle on the bottom of the upright piece to make it lean back a little, because the shape of the back of the monitor was curved making it tilt forward a little.

looks like that monitor/tv has 100mmx100mm VESA mounts which is pretty common. Now i just need to adapt these plans to hold my two monitor setup, and provide a few more degrees of freedom (height, angle, rotate, pan) independently for each monitor. It'd be nice to get that desk space back from under the monitors. en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Flat_Display_Mounting_Interface
@SteveCarmichael6 жыл бұрын
I wasn't sure if the 10cm x 10cm holes were common or not, so I'm glad they are so my templates will work for other TVs. the base of the stand is a good place to keep my glasses, pen and post-it notes.
@MFunkibut6 жыл бұрын
I run two monitors at home and bought my mount 'cause I ain't handy like Steve. Only other suggestion I can make is rather than a big foot at the bottom adapt a C-clamp to hold the mount to the desk. It should be less tippy than a foot when holding two monitors. HTH.

Like the project a lot but do have a question. Why didn't you use your X Carve to make the pieces?
@SteveCarmichael6 жыл бұрын
I only had to make one and the bandsaw cuts much faster than the trim router. Plus, I had to work around some bad spots and color variations in the wood, so it was easier to place the templates in the exact part of the board I wanted instead of trying to line it up on the CNC crooked so it would carve in the right spot. If I had better wood and had to make more than one, I'd definitely let the x-carve do it while I do something else.

Nice video but there is a reason why tv’s aren’t used as monitors. Headaches from being too close.
@SteveCarmichael5 жыл бұрын
Thanks! What is the difference that causes headaches? Not sure I understand why being too close would make a difference - seems like you would sit the same distance away from a 24" TV and a 24" monitor. The bigger the screen, the further away you sit right?
@Andrew260RS5 жыл бұрын
Steve Carmichael Just how the pixels are designed for viewing angle. Your eyes tend to strain much more when being close to a TV. Generally you sit 2+ metre away from a tv where a monitor you are 400mm+. I had this problem and had to throw the small tv out and moved to a 27” monitor. No more headaches.
@SteveCarmichael5 жыл бұрын
Interesting! I was thinking of getting another TV to watch while I exercise, so I might get a bigger monitor then use this small TV as a TV. Hmmm
