I am very interested in doing this in my basement. My only concern is that I have a lot of plumbing and electrical run above my current dr.op ceiling. If I have install the planks, how it easy would it be to remove a section in the future and then reinstall it, if I need to get access to the plumbing and electrical above the planks? Thanks

It wouldn't be easy to get to them once this stuff is up. You could do an access panel, but it would definitely look like an access panel. The stuff can be taken down but it is work.

Thank you so much. We were pretty happy with how it turned out.

Thanks for sharing this video...not a lot of instructions for hanging from existing drop ceiling grid. I'm having problems screwing the clips that came with the planks into the grids at an intersection. Would you please share a link or be more descriptive with what tex screws you used? You made it look like you were drilling through butter but I can't drill through my metal grids! Thanks in advance.

I used something like these in 3/4" I believe. amzn.to/4cxAhbB A lot of screws are garbage, but these are my go to for stuff like this

Nice video. There are very few videos like this out there. I guess planks are not that popular since they are like 5x more expensive than regular tiles. But they do look much better, so I am installing them. I guess you do not even have to have a min of 4" clearance for this method as you do need for regular tiles, so you can make your ceiling as high as possible. How did you install recessed lights? Did you just cut a hole and lay them down on planks or did you use a bracket? I ve heard they do not really lay flush if you put them directly on planks. Oh, one more thing. You floor is perpendicular to your ceiling. Are they supposed to have the same layout for the most pleasing effect? ))

There are some max lengths that they should be. Like a lot of these types of products, they grow and shrink and I needed to run them in that orientation to not exceed the limit of boards in a row. I used a hole saw to cut those holes. I measured everything out and did it from the ground IIRC.

Excellent video! I do have a few questions..... Ready? I just recvd some sample easy up clips and planks from Armstrong to use on my old, ugly existing drop-ceiling grid. But the clips are a TAD too big - so I squeezed the clips a little bit - and they fit on the existing grid. My concern is if I squeeze all the clips together - that still won't be secure enough and the entire ceiling will come down. The easy up clips have 2 little dibits where I assume 2 screws go?? I would think if I screw each clip into the grid like you did with the other clips - it will be secure? Any thoughts?

The clips on my track were really strong...but my grid was also really strong. You're spreading the load really well and the section of ceiling you're supporting with each clip isn't much. Unless they really don't grab the track, you're most likely fine. It's a tough thing to test but you'd probably have to put a few rows up to know for sure. I think most clips would fit at most 1 screw. I used tek screws instead of the ones that came with it.

I have a quick question. Your ceiling turned out great! We’re finished installing and now putting up crown. Since the instructions said to not nail the crown into the ceiling, did you just nail the bottom of the crown into the crown into the wall?
@AnotherMaker2 жыл бұрын
That's correct. I had a little bit of an advantage because the paneling was really thick, but I shot it with 2" nails straight into the studs behind the paneling as often as possible. I also backed it with that white powergrip liquid nails type stuff where it needed a little bit of help.

@@AnotherMaker damn, after my first piece of crown I’m having about an 1/8 of an inch gap between the woodhaven ceiling and crown in some spots. If Instructions permitted nailing it to the woodhaven planks it would close those gaps because when I press up on the crown it closes.

@@jenkityjenks I guess the question is would you have to "cheat" like that on both sides of a plank. I think there's about zero chance that stuff really grows/shrinks on the long side (tongue/groove), so you're probably safe there. If you had to nail on an edge, I think you'd be fine as long as you didn't nail on both edges if that makes sense. As long as it can grow length wise in one direction, I'll bet you'd be safe. But obviously it's your house. The other thing you could do is use the power grab on the trim but tack something below the trim to hold it up until the PG cures. So at worse you'd have a few trim nail holes in the wall to fix, but the trim would still be bonded to the wall instead of the ceiling. I also purposely chose small crown so I didn't have to deal with the leverage very far out on the ceiling.

@@AnotherMaker thanks. Did you remove the screws from the first and last row? My thoughts were, how is it a floating ceiling if those are left in. I removed mine.

After this type of ceiling is installed is it pretty easy to get back in there to run cables or check for a leak etc?
@AnotherMaker2 жыл бұрын
It's not too difficult to get the last few rows out if you need to. You can also make a specific access panel for it. I had access from the side in my case.

I do wonder, why a drop ceiling at all? Drop the drop and raise the height. Then you could play indoor basketball.
@AnotherMaker2 жыл бұрын
In this case there were air ducts and other things up there that couldn't easily be rerouted. There was not a lot of room in the attic above and no access to the attic from the main part of the house, so it pretty much had to be a suspended ceiling.
@anon_y_mousse2 жыл бұрын
@@AnotherMaker Ah, shame that. High ceilings are definitely more fun.
