Speaking of being angley challenged....I recently made a memory quilt from my Mom’s clothing after she passed away. Imagine my surprise when I got it back from the long arm quilter and there were two places where I messed up. I was upset that I had messed it up but then I could hear my Mom say “Honey, it’s fine! That just gives the quilt character.” I decided to just enjoy the quilt for what it is, a memory quilt. Now, I never look at it without thinking of my Mom and how she was always such an encouragement when it came to my quilting. She was so proud of me and my quilts. ❤️
@grandmalovesmebest4 жыл бұрын
How lucky you are! Sorry for your loss, your mom must have been a great one. You can honor her by passing on her quality of giving encouragement. She would be proud that her kindness was spread out into the world by her little girl. It helps me when I discover a mistake on my quilts, I say, "relax, it's a quilt (or wall hanging or whatever) it's not a wedding gown!" 😁 Makes work a joy, not a chore.🙋

I used to get so cross with me when I found a mistake I could not fix. Then someone told me the Amish quilters always make a mistake, because only God is perfect, so I am happy to go along with that too.

What a wonderful touching story. I also lost my Mom- my best friend about 4 years ago. Recently I was home recovering from surgery and they had put me on prednisone. It makes you emotional! I wanted to make something and thought I would cut up my mom's gorgeous cotton shirt. I opened it up and it just looked like her to me! So petite and pretty! It made me cry- "seeing her again". Someday when I get to heaven is what I know!

I made a quilt for our missionaries at church who are in Africa. They needed a queen and I decided to make 2 half sides and put them together and quilt on my home machine. Well, I photographed it and sent it off. The whole church had signed it! A year later- I looked at the picture again. I could not believe my eyes! There where I put the 2 halves together, I had put the wrong ends together and there was an obvious space ALL ACROSS the center where there should have been alternate blocks! I thought - "Well if I did not see it then probably they do not either!" It is the thought that counted here. I had a wonderful time making it too!

This is my absolute to "DIE FOR" day of the week. I love Jenny's tutorials.....She's amazing (and so are ALL of you that work behind the scenes to make MSQC what it is...THANK YOU!) I'm going to be HONEST here. At FIRST, I didn't like the quilt colors.....then the more she kept sewing, the more I liked it. I have some Kaffe Fassett Charm Packs called Lipstick and I am thinking about making the quilt out of this. (Love Kaffe Fassett!!) I'm trying to decide what colors to do the sashing in. I want to either purchase the fabric from MSQC or go get the fabric to cut the 2.5-inch strips from Jo-Ann's. Any time you can get TWO quilts for the price of ONE.....it's a great deal. Thanks so much for all the amazing videos, Jenny! ************************************************* BTW....can someone let me know what is wrong with Jenny's hand and arm?(I think this was mentioned a while back but can't remember???? It looks so painful!
@szelop4 жыл бұрын
holiday 2406 Just my 2 cents but I wouldn’t mix JoAnn’s strip fabric with Kaffe’s. JoAnn’s strips are wonky sometimes & the quality is not equal to quilt shop quality fabric.

My disappearing 9 patch’s come out a little wonky at times. So I sew a 2 1/3” piece of background and split my 5” charms and sew them separately, in the appropriate places. HELP: Instead of 2 quilts, could I make 30 blocks and make a King sized quilt or would it be too big? Would I need to buy more of the other fabrics to do that? I have been promising my son and his wife a big quilt for ages. She loves Jane Austin too.

How many times I've watched this video and I just noticed, you could save a lot of time using charm packs and skipping the "disappearing" part (Unless you like the tiny 4-patch). Just make the 9-patches and the cool sashing.

Beautiful! The thing I like about the quilt you demo’ed us how the sashing units produce arrows that point right into what looks like the inner border. I love that look. I also noticed that your 4-patches aren’t consistently pointing in one direction or another, it varies by row. I like quilt patterns that look great without having to be so careful with the layout direction! Thanks MSQC! ~Diana K.

I started making the bonus quilt and had all the sashing pieces sewn together when I started thinking. When you put your sashing together with the color fabrics opposite of the 4 patch in the middle, but when it comes around to the other 2 sides, the colors match up with the 4 patch. I was thinking...if I would have taken half of the sashing pieces and snowballed them in the opposite order then all the sashing pieces would come out opposite of the matching color all around the 4 patch. Does that make sense?
