I'm gonna be 100% honest with you, I actually got a bit of a laugh seeing the judges tear into my 6-year-old stage seeing how they're all pretty much very right (even if in hindsight Ace's thing maybe seems a little harsh) Also, Flashman and Pachy do a pretty good job of having some decent humor going on with their comics while still doing a solid job with actually reviewing the levels

I like the idea of the stage tbh. Kinda like the underwater levels of DKC, though it would need more work put into it, making it more busy and distinguishing background from the foreground, most importantly the water part. My 2 cents at least.

Yeah, Ace's thing was...honestly pretty mean. He literally just said, "This level sucked so hard, I'm not even gonna do my job and explain why."

The secondary secret in Not Delivering still does exist! It might be worth taking a look at some point (post-secret-finding-compass) just to see what form the devteam intervention took. They made a cute gag out of it. Pachy definitely leans toward higher average scores than the others. And hey, that diversity is good to have.

At first I was flabberghasted by some of Pachy's scores, but as I played more and more levels, I feel like I've aligned with her more than all the other judges. Probably because the other guys are all jaded veterans and she's new blood, lol.

What situation would involve a value necessitated so high? 100 makes sense for a huge bolt. Here I was thinking a full room of Energy Tanks would be enough.

@@Joe-lj4jw It's accessible, just difficult to get to. The "items" you get there have a flag attached to them so when you leave the level, a cutscene plays out and you don't get to keep them.

We have a Hawiian grill near where I work that serves what I call the Monty Python Special: Spam, Eggs, Sausage, and Spam. They Call it the Aloha Plate, Portuguese Sausage, Spam and Cocktail Weenies [close enough to spam to make the joke work]

I'm glad Pachy mentioned the assets of The Cave is from Cave Story. That was a good game and I immediately recognized it when I saw those tiles.

okay. I'm definitely curious on the secret room in the first level that both Pachy and Flashman mentioned. What exactly was in that room that counted it as game-breaking? i get the feeling it wasn't tanks.

ACESpark the judge with all the image files for Judge Comments. I'm pretty sure once you get to a higher tiers AECSparks judge comments will just turn to walls of texts. I agree with Flashman85 The Cave level That Exists Remind you of old Windows Dos Mega man games?

Not Delivering On Promises: Well the creator was right. He didn't deliver on promises. And again, Shinryu's PNG representing how I feel. Only thing I can say is "Put Checkpoints in your stage!" A piece of cake, but with aesthetics: When I first went into this level, I was thinking there would be Vaporwave. Nope. Just a branching path with which neither path was anything I can recall now. It is a piece of cake. The Cave Level That Exists: I'll say this. Every Tier 1 stage is a level that exists. And this certainly tried to be a cave level. Whether it succeeded or not I'll leave up to everyone else. But the judges clearly felt it didn't. I'm at least glad that the developer of this stage is taking it in stride. Kind of sad that the only stage so far that was memorable for me was the stage in last place. (Un)fortunately, there is a level coming up that left an impact on me... And not in the good way.

Not Delivering on Promises; had a bangin' song, but ultimately the stage itself was too short and the seafood buffet... well, it could have been worse. It hampered itself by not giving the Lantern Fish enough room on screen to spawn the Shrinks, which I'm not sure if that was a concession for the raining Crabbots or just an oversight. I also don't care for SPAM, but I sometimes get a wild hair and try to make something with it. A piece of cake, but with aesthetics; Honestly feel that the left path was pretty dang decent, and the stage probably would have scored higher if that was it. The right path felt empty, with the speedy belt section in particular could have used something to spice it up. Maybe find a nifty way to combine the paths, like Pachy suggested? I also think the most dangerous enemies were the blue screens. The Cave Level That Exists; fun thing about referencing and reusing other games, is that it makes the player realize they would rather be playing that game. Tiny Rogues, a game featured in a One-Off on this channel recently, straight up plagiarized from other games near the end and left me wondering what happened to the creativity and charm it started with. This level didn't even get the chance to show its own charm. I also love Cave Story (Moonsong is best song tho).

Watching these videos reminds me of a robot master idea I had that I also have a vague idea of a stage gimmick I want for that stage. Maybe I should try to sketch ideas for enemies and consider making an entry for a future MaGMML contest?

If you've never played Cave Story, I would heavily recommend it. It has a lot of sensibilities of classic Mega Man regarding jumping and shooting gameplay, just with more of a story focus.

I played the original version and... admittedly disliked it for story reasons. There are some parts that just didn't sit well with me, like a prime example was the issue of checking on the guy that falls in the pit. Check on him? He dies and you're locked into the bad ending. Ignore him like a jerk? He survives and you're heading toward the GOOD ending. Sense make?

-Not delivering on Promises: If it wasn't for the lack of checkpoints and that ladder token, I feel like it would be fun to romp through the level with infinite weapons, though the design still isn't the best. I feel like that invisible ladder should just be a dev room or something. I haven't found the secret room on my first way through, I should probably revisit and see what it is. -A piece of cake, but with aesthetics: Fairly easy stage, probably didn't need 2 paths, however the worst part is the visuals in that one room, otherwise not much to say with this one, it works, but kind of meh. I feel lucky to not have had the error in the Enker room at least. -The Cave Level That Exists: Love the Cave Story music, however there's really not much to it, it looks bland, and the slopes aren't working well. At least one part is true: the level does indeed exist! Sonic Man is still annoying to fight out of water, and with the additikn of Bubble man, I just used Spark Chaser and never looked back!

Not Delivering on Promises could have been fun except the challenges weren’t really balanced around the infinite energy weapons, the lack of checkpoints, and of course maybe the worst invisible ladder in the entire game in terms of the sheer lack of tell. Funnily enough, coming right after the Drill stage means you’re much more likely to find it. Piece of cake is too easy for its own good, didn’t need a split path in the slightest, and only lives up to its name because bad aesthetics are still a type of aesthetics. The cave level that exists…is just one of the most empty feeling levels in the contest and the boss fights range from infuriating to complete cakewalk. I get the reference to the Core fight but…it didn’t turn out the best.

Not Delivering On Promises is a confusing level. I'll be honest, when I heard there's a level that gives you infinite everything in Tier 1, I was so ready for blood- I mean oilfest, but I think I forgot the fact that it's in the lowest tier. Infinite ammo was rarely useful for the most situations since there weren't enough of a level design. Aside from the sudden underwater section, there weren't many enemies to kill, and most of them were targetable with the buster anyways. The said underwater part wasn't good either, it felt a bit spammy and basic setup. The lack of ANY checkpoint is also questionable. Despite being a short level, giving one before the boss is an implicit rule... which this one went against for some reason. In the end it doesn't matter much, but it could get a little annoying to start the whole thing again for dying at the boss. That token placement is also worth mentioning. If there's no hint, how would the most people figure out the hidden token room location? Additionally, while I don't think any people would find it accidentally, it's also possible to get softlocked from the said token room by hugging the wall while falling back. A piece of cake, but with aesthetics is the first level that has 2 or more Energy Elements, but ironically, this actually handles them well than some of the other levels. Starting the levels at the split path definitely gave players less tedium. It's just the main stuff is missing; the actual level. Everything felt very basic, and the aesthetics were confusing- it goes hard on the eyes a bit, and pits and screen transition isn't distinguishable. Tokens were... hidden relatively fine, but not too challenging either. Bosses are unchanged, too. Overall, this really serves as a piece of cake, but the aesthetic seems to be the self-service. The Cave Level That Exists certainly exists. It would've benefitted a lot from the extra tileworks... and an actual design. I don't remember any difficult moments when I first played this level... aside from the hidden boss that is required to be defeated for the tokens. Yeah, suddenly removing water in this arena wasn't a good decision. It would've worked a lot better in underwater, but it just ended up fall flat sadly. Aside from that, I don't have much to say on this mostly inoffensive level.

It's from Monty Python's Flying Circus. Incidentally, it's also where the term "spam" for things like spam e-mail or spamming a move comes from, due to the sheer number of times "spam" was said during the scene.

For the first level, infinite Tornado Blow abuse aside, after seeing that Quick Man redux, it makes me realise; the Quick Man Arena battle in MAGMML2 was clearly meant... for YOU! Other than that, yeah, not much else to say... Considering Pachy's comment for the second level, it's quite clear the 'fancy font' mentioned is Comic Sans; it certainly would have fit some of the more... busy... parts of the stage. Also, janky bosses are janky & why Magma Man's theme? And for the third stage, well you can't accuse the creator of lying at least; also I don't recall the music being too loud... it's not like MAGMML1 where a good number of stages had music that was way too quiet... although the sound volume was all over the place in the first game.

Well, if you choose the re-fight teleporter, it lists Quick Man as being from the Arena instead of being a devkit boss. (Plus if they added him as a devkit boss, I’m sure half of the lower tier levels would have him as a boss.)

The devteam made some minor post-judging adjustments to some of the levels for the sake of the players, and I'm pretty sure the music volume being lowered in that level is one of them.
