I haven't tried this with my laser yet...but if you ran a burn line all the way around your visible internal stitch lines (to engrave depth), the thread would sit lower, allowing a slimmer fit, and no wear on the stitching. I do it with leather goods I make by hand now, but manually with a stitch roller. It embosses a line into the wet leather for the stitch to sit in.

Fantastic video, thanks very much for the free template, I think it is a GREAT starting off point for so many new to laser engraving/cutting. One question -- you got a ONE pass cut on 4oz leather, with a 50 (or 75) watt CO2 laser? What's the magic there? I have the exact same machine and it always takes several passes so I'm genuinely curious.

FYI, I downloaded the svg file that was linked and imported both into lightburn and adjusted my settings for my laser. Everything cut fine, but the svg version of the file is not a full size wallet. I downloaded the pdf afterward and the patter pieces were much larger. So please use the measure tool before cutting leather...

I found out today, this is stil the case. Use the pdf version instead of the SVG. Or remember to adjust the scaling factor of the svg file.

Great video! I’ve been looking to buy co2 laser cutter (around 50w). I’ve done quite a bit of research already but I’m torn between a Boss ($4000) and Orion (Chinese) for half the cost. My main goal is for laser to cut out stitching holes for hand stitching. I currently use 4w diode for marking stitching lines but it’s too slow and weak for cutting holes. Any input would be greatly appreciated. Thanks!!
@mitchellvincent22743 жыл бұрын
Boss is the way to go, absolutely. The support, warranty and such is WELL worth the money. My first CO2 laser I built cost me 15K, and it wasn't anywhere near as nice as the Boss 75W I just got.

I made this twice, first time I had difficulty with the curves looking nasty, second time I forgot to burnish the long edges before putting it together (DOH!). But the second wallet actually came out better. Only thing I don't like is the inside where the bills go. If I make this again, I will add a liner, because otherwise you see the stitching and it doesn't look professional in my opinion.
