Making a coing ring out a 1951 british halfpenny copper coin.
I've already made a bunch of these in the past, today I'm showing you how my method has changed with more advanced tools to make better rings and most importantly much more efficiently!
Copper is very easy to work with, it's soft and malleable so there is no need to annheal many times during the process. It also looks very cool in my opinion, but it has some downsides to it like the fact that it oxidize quite fast and, to some people, leave a green mark if worn for long period of time. Both problems can be solved by sealing the ring with something like spray laquer, nail polish or even better clear powder coating.
Index of operation and materials:
0:13 Setting up my tool to make a centered hole in the coin
0:48 Deburring both side of the hole
1:08 Annealing
1:20 doming block
1:28 Arbor press
1:40 Stretching the coin with a ring stretcher
2:08 More annealing
2:20 More stretching
2:48 Stretching sides of the ring to the inside for a nicer shape
3:40 Stretching the ring to size
4:00 Finishing edges with some high grit sandpaper
4:20 Buffing on cotton wheel with fine polishing compound
4:50 Antique patina solution
5:04 Removing patina from high spot leaving some nice contrast
Thanks a lot for watching, I hope you liked the video!

Description says 1951, but halfpenny clearly says 1959. No biggie, though. They make nice rings. good job.

My dad made his and mom's wedding rings out of a US half dollar and a quarter. In his spare time he would sit at a table and hold the coin between his thumb and forefinger. Then he'd tap the edge of the coin with a common tablespoon. With each tap the coin would move very slightly. After billions of taps, the coin became smooth. He drilled out the center and then buffed it down. Inside the rim was IN GOD WE TRUST and the year they were married. Pretty cool wedding ring set for just 75¢ and several hours work. ☺️

@Virgen Weed luckily not all women are brainwashed sheep like you, following what society and the media tells them. And what makes you worse is you are not only ignorant but arrogant too, prescribing your narrow beliefs to others like Maria. Who are you to speak for all women of the world? Did it occur to you that diamond wedding rings is only a relatively recent fad of 20th century western society?? did you know that it is all a lie and that diamonds are in fact not rare and one of the most common gemstones on the planet and not nearly as valuable as these companies like you to believe? regardless who are you to decide for others what holds value? to some a unique ring made of a coin or a piece of found wood hold infinitely more value than a common stone butchered to look like a piece of glass. you are the one who needs to wake up here...

I remember a high-school shop teacher had half the class do this with American quarters... but they did it with spoons and leather rather than mandrels and presses. They spent weeks making what you just did in a day?? Really nice... and 1959 is my birth year so that made it double cool.
