THANK YOU Laura Eubanks for starting this phenomenally fun tradition. Our garden club saw this and we've made it an annual workshop. It's our November meeting. We pillage our gardens and use Euc pods, Jacaranda seeds, small cones, succulents of all kids, colors and sizes. We think they are as good as the fancy ones at florists.( because we have SO much fun making them)

Hey there, Sue! Thanks for commenting! Reminds me how I tried to bring ironwood cones home from a friend's garden in Hawaii and the ag inspectors confiscated them. I've since discovered a tree in a local park (yay). If you can find these little cones, they're the perfect size.

I remember the first time I attempted this I actually cut the pumpkin and added soil inside. Biggest mistake!! It started falling apart in less than a week 😭😭😂😂😂

Hi Nicolas, Yes, bacteria will do that 🤣

FYI there is also a low temperature glue stick available for normal glue guns. Works just like the regular (🔥) gluesticks. 🌵

These are a fabulous idea! I would never have guessed that using hot plastic and planting in only moss would be formidable. How long do these arrangements last? How long does a pumpkin last if kept intact like this? I have an old bicycle wheel on my wall that I've threaded through all types of branches and leaves from trees in my neighbourhood. Each year, come Springtime, the birds pick it apart to make nests. I wonder if I filled the centre of the wheel with straw or dried moss (or coconut husks) if I can get some succulent babies to stay on and help shelter the rest of my woven creation. (I'm going to put some nesting items out on my table for the birds to take this year.)

The pumpkins last well past Christmas. Yeah, birds pull my coir baskets apart, even though I put out nesting material. I figure nests are more important, but my plants are falling out of their hanging pots!

Succulent wreaths in moss had already been being done and sold in the 1990's,…. at least by Mark Anderson at Walter Andersen Nursery,… and I expect others did too.
@QueenofSucculents2 жыл бұрын
Very true. Btw, this video doesn't claim that Laura invented the succulent wreath, only (!) that she pioneered the concept of hot-gluing succulents to moss...which I refer to "the moss-and-glue method." Thanks for the comment and mentioning one of San Diego's horticultural greats!

Spritz them occasionally to moisten the moss. I'll add this to the description. Thanks.

So glad I just watched this - I had been hollowing OUT my pumpkins, refilling with perlite and THEN planting my succulents into that! However, as you can imagine, once the pumpkin starts to get mushy and rot, no more pretty creation! NOW I know the secret - dont hollow out that pumpkin, probably need to get a flatter type, or concave as I'm seeing here.

It’s nice, but why glue succulents?
@QueenofSucculents3 жыл бұрын
It's the best way to attach them to a surface, in this case, the top of a pumpkin. You don't want to use floral pins or otherwise pierce the flesh, which quickly leads to decay. This way, the pumpkin stays intact for months.

Oh I just love this!! I now can not wait till fall so I can make this. Beautiful! And my mind is absolutely blown that you can glue succulents!!

OK, so spray adhesive for the moss, glue gun for gravity-defying spots, but what's the glue in the small squeeze container? sometimes editing can leave out important details. These are wonderful short vids.

I think its just the variety available at JoAnns or Michaels or any craft store basically, you can use either or they are stating here, its your choice.

wouldn't the pumpkin eventually rot though?
@bluzelovr10 жыл бұрын
Yes, especially if you carved out the inside like I did! NOW I know the secret. It will take a month or two before the pumpkin actually rots, and if you keep it on the cooler side - like outside - it should last even longer.

@@bluzelovr mine last for 4-5 months if the winter isn't too rainy.
