Yes, good for teaching children technical things without the need for high-tech equipment. Scouts and Guides et al could use these videos to get children a little bit interested in engineering.

This is excellent. So hard to find tutorials for those of us who don't have table saw, drill press, band saw or other machines. Very easy to understand directions.

I've thought of making the gear out of wedges to avoid teeth with the grain cross-cut, but you're the first I've seen do it. Though most guys make 'em out of plywood to save the trouble

How do I calculate the pinion size for that gear?

Why did you choose to cut the teeth into cycloid profiles (with deep square pockets) instead of involute teeth? That would've required just 3 cuts per tooth, rather than 5. How would involute teeth be any less functional in this application?
@PhilipStephens0078 ай бұрын
I suppose it is because I came at it from a clock makers historical starting point, and what fascinated me in the deautiful way the teeth interact, rolling faces reducing friction rather than pushing and sliding faces, which wear. Even high quality involute teeth have curved faces, if wear and friction is an issue. Reducing friction in clock making has always been high priority. But, you have a point, I may try your suggestion.
