Make an Attic Windows Quilt with Jenny Doan of Missouri Star! (Video Tutorial)

As I watched this tutorial, which I had viewed before, I found another shortcut that I plan on using when I do my Attic Windows. When Jenny cut her first row, she then proceeded to cut each block and then put the 2 1/2" white bolder strip individually. I plan on adding the 2 1/2 " border strip across first before cutting the individual blocks. I used this trick before and was happy with the results. I can't see any new quilt or quilt pattern without looking to see where and easier way exists! So much fun!

Hi Jenny, I purchased all the supplies for this quilt over a year ago and just got started on it this week. I read all the comments about the bucks ear ,so after I made all the blocks I noticed that there's a lot of white splotchy things in the design, so I took some white paint and blocked out the ear . It now blends in with rest of the background and you don't even notice it. Love all your videos. Your my favorite instructor on KZbin. Thanks for making quilting and or piecing easier for us beginners. Happy New Year 2018

I have been quilting for about 50 years, (I am 69 years young) and have watched a lot of quilting shows. It is so refreshing to NOT hear the word accuracy all the time! Also, they spend a lot of time showing us to sew a threads width or a needles width to the side of the drawn line that you will be cutting off! You have shown us it's okay to be you and not fret over it. It's very freeing to just enjoy the process and love creating something beautiful to wrap around someone and tell them, every time you wrap this around yourself I am giving you a hug!

Jenny, 5 years ago I had never made a quilt in my life. I stumbled across your tutorials, and life has never been so good. I'm not an excellent quilter at 82, but I love watching your tutorials and piecing your beautiful patterns. Like the Hunter's Star for my niece, Irish Chain for my best friend, Grandmother's Fans for my daughter-in-law, Jacob's Ladder for grandson, Jacob, Stars and Chain for another friend, and a beautiful quilt of Big Stars of various sizes for my grand daughter. I had made a baby quilt of Disappearing Hour Glass for my great, great grand son and my grand daughter said she will insist on getting it back when baby grows so it will become an heirloom quilt. So I had to make a special one for her and her son. Baby quilt was my first one. God bless you, Jenny, for being so good at what you do and providing patterns that even I can do. I followed your directions exactly and OMGOSH! My quilt is beautiful and so proud of it as it was my very first quilt. Great tutorial. I adjusted for more narrow window panes, and mitered all the corners, instead of the dog-earing. Also got rid of that ‘ear’ that ended up in the wrong place. All turned out great! Thanks so much for this tutorial.

I just love this panel!! I took this idea and added the bear paw blocks around it for a first border, then tree blocks as a second border! I ended with a quilt about 90 square and my son and daughter-in-law both love it! Thanks so much for an easy way to do this quilt!

This is the perfect class to teach my daughter-in-law how to speak English. I believe in teaching two subjects at a time it makes the class useful to the person learning. I'm using the Pioneer Spirit panel for my attic window quilt. I will also add some sepia toned family photos from the 1920s, printed on fabric, to make the quilt more personal. Love the Pioneer Spirit panel, and the scenes look like something seen from a window. I chose another fabric in the Pioneer Spirit collection for my borders, and a third fabric for the backing. I hope it turns out well! I'm optimistic. Thank you Jenny for showing me how it's done!!

Thank you for these tutorials. I love them and have been so inspired! Seeing you labeling the rows with post its and having to pin them because they don't really stick to fabric, I wanted to pass along an idea that works great for me. I purchased a package of jumbo wonder clips and numbered each one with a sharpie, 1 thru (however many are in the package). I use them to mark rows and sets. Keeps all the pieces together and easy to move around when sewing.

Thanks to this tutorial - and a recent gift of a panel along with 1/2 yard of coordinating fabric - I'm making my first-ever attic windows project. Too soon to say if it'll be a wall hanging or lap quilt but it's very easy and fun to do. If you want to save a little time, cut the window strips 2 1/2" and trim them after sewing to the panel piece. When this project is finished I'll post a pic to your Facebook page. I love this because it is a panel so it will look like a view from the window very easily and I like the little corner block technique to make the corner look. No Y seam, no biased corner. haven't actually made one yet but it is on my waiting list.

Thank you this is such an awesome way to get around the dreamed "Y" Seam by snowballing the corners such a natty way of making the frame always avoided attic windows because of the Y-seam this method makes it really simple to make.

Really enjoyed this tutorial jenny is so natural at explaining the method I haven't got any panels and in the mist of the covid I won't be able to get any for some time I live in spain it's hard to get American prints however I have taught myself to quilt with the aid of KZbin. My wife made a number of Attic Window quilts about 20 years ago after a family reunion. She made one for each family that was there with pictures of every one that was there. But she did it the "old fashioned" way. We both really like Jenny's short cuts and will use her methods from now on.

Jenny I love this quilt idea! So I decided to try it...and I goofed. I cut 7 of the 5" pieces instead of 5 of the 7" ones. But even though it's not what it should be it will be okay! Someone told me it just looked like 3 deer instead of 2. :) This is my first try at a quilt this size so I am learning a lot. It has inspired my 17 yr old granddaughter and she is now using the same panel to make the quilt as well! I love to watch your videos and have learned so much! Just finished my first attic window quilt. Had watched this video previously, but had forgotten the tips. My pattern showed making a HST from the two window fabrics to add to the bottom of left hand strip. Your method easier. I referred back to get suggestions for the actual quilting. Didn't know whether to do something in each specific area or just do a stipple all over. Any closeup pictures seem to stipple.👍🇦🇺

I love this quilt pattern. I have a deer panel I plan to use for a quilt for my husband. Instead of a stripped border I was thinking of using the hunter star quilt pattern bc it has the arrow when blocks are stitched together( as my husband bow hunts)to make a border around the finished quilt. Fingers crossed it looks good. :). Love your tuorials they are easy to follow and inspire me to try new patterns I'd otherwise shy away from. Keep up the great tutorials.

I made this for my brother 2 Christmases ago, then one friend asked me for help and we made one for her son and then I helped another friend make one for her husband (all with this panel)! I made ONE MORE from a Santa panel so it looks like you're looking out a window watching Santa feed wildlife. (I sure wish I could attach a picture!) THANKS for making this so easy to do! The hardest part is trying to figure out the measurements so your windows are even and your subject on the panel isn't cut in an awkward place!

today I finished the Attic Window panel with Reel Tree Deer panel. I was so afraid to try it it's been sitting in a drawer with the black, white and brown material. I am so thrilled it came out beautiful. Contacting my long arm quilter to get a price for the stipple design like yours. I will post picture when complete. What a cute throw size. Would work good for my husband or nephews. Great tutorial. Even if you had a panel printed with personal pictures and use it. What a great look.

I have bookmarked so many of your wonderful tutorials to make them easily accessible as I work on your patterns. This is definitely one of my favorites because I love the idea of creating a window and view to the outdoors for an otherwise blank wall!
