When I was looking up information when making my first infinity mirror, I came across some images and videos of infinity cubes, and definitely wanted to make one of my own. The main thing that was holding me back was that I wanted to do it differently than anyone else. I think I finally came up with a design that is different.

I can’t believe you soldered it all by hand... or that everything is from scratch and by hand, completely DIY.... that’s hardcore... I would definitely pay for the service of having it pre-soldered. Well done!

The circuit board manufacturer that I used offers that as an additional service! It ended up being almost 100 LEDs and capacitors, so that service would definitely be a benefit to use that service. I'm glad you liked the project!

I'm glad you liked this! The description of this video has all the parts that I used. I have also included a link to my Instructables page where I have all the instructions typed out (with pictures.) My Instructables page also includes a link to the files for the board. You can either edit the files to customize it, or just upload them to a manufacturer to get the same boards I used in this video.

Awesome. Just plain awesome. Going to have to borrow some of these methods for my own version. Well done, good video, straight forward, there is lots of cool effects that can be utilized from Arduino libraries. The mind boggles at the potential. Very impressed with your creativity and engineering prowess. Keep it rolling

I'm glad this video was inspirational, I would love to see how yours turns out! One oversight that I made with this design caused me to short out an Arduino. Since the aluminum tape conducts around the corners, I needed to file the corners of the tape to break the continuity. I added this change to my video for making the stand.

It's weird that you mention this. I've been working on plans for a couple of these using lights for frames. The one you used looks perfect for that! You did an awesome job! When it comes to infinity mirrors and cubes, bigger is definitely better.

New subscriber here.. I just watched this video and thought wow! Nice looking cube but the base has got to go! It doesn't match. Then realized later in the video you mentioned you will update it. 😉 Just my opinion but I would go with aluminum base or something futuristic. Your cube looks futuristic and I am going to have to copy it 👍😉. Can't wait for your 2nd video on the base.
@HowDoYouDIY
@HowDoYouDIY 4 жыл бұрын
I don't really like this base much either. Originally I wanted to carve a hand to hold the cube, but that's a bit beyond my skill level right now. Then I was thinking a spiraling base would look cool, but I couldn't get that to work out for me. This was quick and basic, but like you said, it doesn't match. The new base similar to this one. It does look a bit better, but still not what I want. The next video mentions some important things to consider when making a design. One of the things I love about this cube design is that you can build several different bases and easily move it from one to another 😉 I hope the video helps and I would love to see how you improve on my design!

@@HowDoYouDIY I am definitely going to be making one like you did. And the tack idea was absolutely brilliant!! Really I love the idea to Pick it up and sit it down closes the circuit 😉👍. Most cubes require a 3d printer which I don't have yet. So I was excited to see your design. I'm not to sure I can improve your design but I think I can copy your design 😉

Those were the main things I wanted to accomplish with my design. I'm so glad it worked out as well as it did. If you notice, when the lights are on you can see the corners light up. I didn't expect that. I didn't even notice that until I was taking pictures of it. And I love that it does that! One thing I would recommend would be to sand the plastic at those corners on the inside of the box before assembling it. That should help the corners light up better. Good luck with your results! Feel free to reach out to me if you have any questions.

@@HowDoYouDIY yeah that is definitely a cube to be proud of.. I sure like it out Of all the other cube videos iv watched 😉. I didn't notice the corners lit but I love it! And great idea to sand the corners 👍 Do you sell those custom pcb boards? If not I noticed in your video that you mentioned you have to upload a Gerber file for the circuit board. Would you be willing to share the Gerber file so that I could order custom boards as well. If not I understand and still appreciate you taking the time to help me and others out with your video and sharing your idea. Have a wonderful day 😁

I’ve given the idea a good go before. Will need to do the math for power draw from the LEDs, with the levitation distance and induction strength to get enough current in it. Also the magnetic interference from magnets used to levitate it and how it will effect the induction strength.... So maybe?

What's the power consumption at max brightness?

@@HowDoYouDIY I'm currently working on a similar project using those LEDs in a battery powered lamp and I'm trying to spec the batteries for a reasonable runtime, that's where the question comes from. I'd definitely be interested to know the answer if you ever get the tools to check, thank you!
@HowDoYouDIY
@HowDoYouDIY 3 жыл бұрын
Interesting coincidence... I'm working on a lamp too 🤔 I'm using rgbw LEDs though. I was thinking of using an external battery pack and just test the runtime. There is a tool I've been thinking about getting that may be able to test the power consumption. Maybe I'll just get it and try it out.
