An excellent idea and very fast to assemble 'in the field' with just 3 sticks. Instead of Cordura, I used an old shower curtain made of a medium weight material which seems just as good as Cordura, but much much cheaper to source. Also, I sewed in 3 thin leather circles at each of the triangle points, inside each pocket, just to further reinforce and protect the material. I used this yesterday while out on an overnight trip, and found it very comfortable and practical to use while sitting there crafting tent pegs, a new handle for my axe and carving a spoon or two, amongst other things. Just keeping in with practice. Thanks for the idea, and at 2.4 ounces (the one I made anyway) it's easily rolled up and fits nicely in the bottom of my cargo pocket.

Great design, Lonnie! I have made a few of these now. I just used a piece of poster board for my template, as that is what I had at home. Easier to trace around, as it is thicker. I made my last one using neon orange 1000D Cordura. I put 3” Grosgrain loops on each triangle (they are on the bottom of the pockets, and stick out past the ends of the material about 1”). So now, my camp stool is multi-purpose: stool, signal panel, backpack cover during hunting season using cordage/small carabiner to attach it, waypoint marker, and a place to catch shavings from fat wood, etc.

Lonny, some times you scare me! I was just going to go down to the shop to try and make a leather tripod chair, just wanted to watch your latest video of your boat first. At the end, I was going to close the laptop and head down, but I saw a related vid of yours, this vid! I've been thinking about making this tripod chair for a month now, and here you are, making this chair! This is not the first time that this has happened with your vids. That is trippy! Haha, all the best, and thanks for the vids.

Lonnie, As usual, great and concise instructions. I just finished laying out my chair using heavy brown paper. Something I learned and wanted to pass on when laying out the pockets. As you suggested, fold it over the top. Then fold it underneath and mark it using a straight edge. This way seemed easier to me to mark and cut. Bob

This is by far the best ultralight camping chair I've seen. I typically just use my hammock as a chair, but I may just bring this along for when i'm gathered around a campfire on my backpacking excursions.
@thatguythatdoesstuff74487 жыл бұрын
Travis Garcia I was thinking the same. Really awesome if I were a tent camper. But I'm in a hammock, so I don't know how useful this is. Maybe as a seat while I'm cooking next to the fire? I have a pad that I kneel on for that.
@T1ddlywinks7 жыл бұрын
I hammock camp as well, but I think this would be a nice luxury item to sit around the campfire with at a minimal weight addition. I'm not super ultralight due to California's requirement for bear canisters, so I my pack can afford to carry an extra few oz lol.

@martinhafner22019 ай бұрын
Great design! I've generally carried a piece of a tarp for a dry sitting spot. I'll make one of these and it can serve that simple purpose or if I have time to cut/carve the legs then I can sit up off the ground. I may try for a slightly asymmetric design with one longer stick to reach back farther on the ground to avoid back-tipping - sort of an adirondack chair style.

Thanks Lonnie. I saw this chair in another of your videos and went to looking on how to make it....thanks for the instruction. I'm wondering if some sort of ring, schd. 40 pvc might suffice to hold the legs in place and forgo the lashing? Just a thought.
@Far-North-Bushcraft-Survival6 жыл бұрын
I believe that some sort of metal ring might work well but i would guess that PVC just would not be strong enough. Maybe metal Plumbers tape might work though I'm not sure that even it would be enough. Maybe going about the fastening in the opposite way such as to have a round disk or triangle in the middle of all three legs and to bolt through each leg into the disk. You would need to leave each bolt loose enough that the legs could rotate from the vertical storage configuration to the slanted in-use configuration.
