You are brilliant as usual Kasia! Thank you for sharing the different ways in which a "junk" journal can be made and interpreted. Junk does not mean junky! I love homemade journals; they are so unique and one-of-a-kind.

I really love your concept of art journaling, because I never worry about finishing an art journal, I just let them become my friends that I visit once in a while. I love to work with multiple journals at the same time, because each can have its purpose. Love from Portugal 💙🧡❤️🖤💚💜💗💛♥️

I've made a bound journal with 3 signatures. I didn't have all the neat junk papers. So, I used several types of my art papers. Mixed media, watercolor, thin beige cardstock and sketch papers. I used recycled cardboard from the back of my paper pads. I will start a box of junk/recycled papers for my next project. Im going to start gluing collage papers randomly in the journal. :)

THANK YOU so much for this video! I'm not precise, either, which is why I LOVE making art journals with just one signature! I love how you eyeballed your holes for the signatures! I've tried measuring them precisely and all I do is pull out my hair! I'm just not going to worry about them any more!!!

I do LOVE to glue fabric onto the edges of my papers! In fact, I've made very few journals without doing this. I also make fabric tabs, pockets, and snippet rolls, which I cut up and make into tabs and pockets!

Thanks for this fun video. If you clip your signature open to the book cover, the binding will go much easier as the papers will not slip everywhere!

For people having problems with using a real book: you can always use an old calendar in a book format (many shops give them away for a symbolic price now or even for free)

This brings back such fond memories for me, Kasia, of when we made junk journals from our "Dynamic" painted papers while I was in Ashbourne filming Wanderlust 2020. I smiled the whole time I was watching this! I think you crushed the patience problem with this one! :). What's your word for 2022? XOXO

If you want to speed up the process of making holes, use a simple trick: take another book (one you don't mind damaging), open it, and put the opened journal on top of it. It really makes poking holes easy. One more trick: secure your papers with paperclips, that way the pages won't move around.

Kasia, inspiring. Thank you. I have a journal I made last year that I am using for my daily journal this year. This one will be a challenge since it has digi pages in here as well, not something I am used to 😄. I am also thinking how I can make this more personal than last year's with the drawings I am doing every night. Maybe I can work at having this be a combination daily writing journal and an art journal. I enjoyed filling the one I made from scratch a few years back, and have in mind to make more of these journals this year and learn how to use a Junk Journal to bring out the best in all the treasures that are already in there. I find a paper clip usually helps me keep those pages together and in place when I am sewing in a signature. Have a brilliantly creative, safe and prosperous 2022. New subscriber 😊

And, oh gosh....sewing in the signatures! For me, it is very stressful! My hands sweat, I get a headache, I've even THROWN a couple of journals across the room!!! I'm taking a break right now from making any journals. I need some time off! And, I don't feel that sewing down the pages with my sewing machine is the solution (I personally don't like that)...Stitches are TOO TIGHT!
@EverythingArt

So true, it can be truly stressful. I've been there many times and I get you. Take some time off and then maybe come back to it with a less precision-demanding process, like one of my Care December journals? kzbin.info/www/bejne/lXaZdHaXbq2FqaM

I have beautiful old books, but they smell really bad (of cellar and if they had been wet once, but I can't spot any mold). Is there any technique or trick to get the smell off? I tried to expose them to air, I tried dryer sheets and coffee, but the bad smell lingers...
@EverythingArt
@EverythingArt 2 жыл бұрын
I'm not sure to be honest. I know exactly what you mean. From my experience there isn't much you can do. If the smell is to go away it will go away after a few days and if it's still there after all you've done I think it's there for good. The only solution may be to scan some of the most beautiful pages and print them out and use that? K.

The books may loose the "cellar smell" in the freezer. That worked for the stinking books I got on ebay. I'm not sure about the minimum time, I left them in the freezer for two weeks - wrapped in a plastic bag - and now they're fine. Happy New Year (for me since 5 minutes) :-)

I would try spraying them damp with vinegar and then leaving in the sun for several days. Vinegar almost always works!
