Thought HydroMite around 1960 made the Model T of Jet Ski's/Mini Hydroplane's with an external pump(prop in a venturi) hanging down amidships and a rudder under the stern. They were between 5 to 7 feet long and weighed around 40 or so pounds. They weren't as fast but sipped fuel and maintained control when you lost power since they had a rudder. You couldn't run them over a sand bar or up the ramp though with skeg and venturie along with the non-kickup rudder hanging underneath them. Best!

Another awesome and informative vlog. Kinda of a unrelated question Does anyone remember a company out of Havasu called RPOT. They were around late 90s early 00s. They specialized in carbon fiber ski parts.

Yes, Rick Pot, Great guy. He made some killer parts. I use to have a Waveblaster that had a bunch of his parts on it. It handled amazing! After the turn of the century, he was making Custom pool cues, all billet aluminum with amazing designs machined into them. They were incredible pieces of art. Talented guy.

The Jet Intake is Super Important 👌 What l am surprised about with Jet Ski's , is that they are all Axial Flow Units. I am really Surprised that no manufacturer has taken a Decent Look at a Mixed Flow Jet Unit like a Dominantor , Berkeley ect & down sized them 4 a Jet Ski or smaller jet boat . They have a higher top speed & if using a pre impeller, virtually no cavitation at all . May require more HP .. not entirely sure ???? Ur thoughts ??? Thx 😅

Man, it has been many many years since I have seen a waveraider intake tract, but I thought for sure it was the same as the blaster, which is the same as the superjet. You need to check it out, because there is enough play in those, you could probably install a superjet one and it would work fine.

I have a TS that's been giving me cavitation issues since the day I bought it. I wish the pumps had replaceable wear rings like my Sea Doo, but I've tried 2 different pumps (both within wear limits according to the book), 2 different stock impellers and 1 aftermarket Mako stainless impeller. I replaced the factory (broken) intake grate and an aftermarket scooped WoT grate and even installed a longer Ocean Pro ride plate. Everything I do gives me cavitation. After the last parts swap, I sealed up the ride plate, pump and grate with silicon. My last test drive before winter set in allowed me to get up to speed if I made a sharp turn and slowly accelerated. It would cavitate if I turned the other direction or went strait. What am I doing wrong? Do I need to reseal everything?
@jetskijim00725 күн бұрын
Hello, I am doing a video right now on sealing these 650 pumps.. They are tricky, So i hope the video will help you out. Look for it in the coming weeks. :-)

Hi Jim, great video. I purchased a Jet Dynamics intake grate for my SC, and wanted to add a stuffer as well. I saw that you modified the grate and cut the center support on the Jet Dynamics grate to match the new angle on your ski's intake. I was planning to do the same, but read on the pro water craft website that there will be a performance issue if you pair a top loader grate with a stuffer. So now I'm wondering if I just run the Jet Dynamics grate without a stuffer, or if I should explore other grate options and add the stuffer. Any thoughts?
@jetskijim00710 ай бұрын
Well, no, pro watercraft doesn't recommend running a scoop grate because they cant give you dimensions or direction modifying the scoop grate. Liability and all. The problem is the scoop grate is made at the angle of the stock intake tract. When you modify the angle, the scoop is no longer parallel, it creates a wedge, which causes issues at higher speeds. If you modify the scoop to maintain parallel, the ski absolutely hooks up and goes!
@H20ONFIRE10 ай бұрын
Looks like you plan to use those top loader/JD intake grates....Chris's website dosnt recommend using "top loaders". Courios if you stayed with that style intake grate, an did ski slo down? Not sure to spend 100$ plus, to lose speed. {I currently run JD grates also}.
@donalhoward29628 ай бұрын
What style intake grate works best with the pump stuffer on an x2?
@jetskijim0078 ай бұрын
I would think a shallower one since you are changing the angle. Intake grate scoops are supposed to be parallel to the intake tract. I would try a worx.
@KRM02 Жыл бұрын
Jim , Sorry last question I have for ya does anyone make the entire water intake where the prop sits and the stuffer sits ?? I'm looking for one for a special build I'm working on , trying to turn my small flat bottom into a swamp/river boat and I don't need lots of speed just need it to plane out and get from point out to point be. If ya know where I can pick one up let me know please if not I'll have to buy all the other parts and make a metal intake not sure what ya call that area on bottom of hull so I'm calling it the intake . Thanks Kyle
@jetskijim007 Жыл бұрын
I sure don't. Most of the time those are fabricated for the application.
@sevenout43618 ай бұрын
Have you heard of gator glide? It's a product that aluminum flat boats are using to protect the bottom of their hulls. Now I've seen jet ski guys doing it on their hulls. Your thoughts?
@jetskijim0078 ай бұрын
I've watched as folks have tried everything on the bottom of the hulls. Everything always affected handling in some odd way or another. Nothing "protects" fiberglass. If you are running your ski on the rocks, the fiberglass will flex/work/damage, no brush on coating is going to stop that. I have actually seen guys armor their bottoms with aluminum or stainless sheet. Wrecks the handling, but it does pretty much make them bullet proof. :-)
