Just wanna take a second to thank you for the videos you do. I just got a very clean 89 ts650. I’ve completely torn everything down to check it all out and to make sure it’s good to go. I’m a tech at a local power sports dealership but have zero knowledge of pwc till about 3 weeks ago. (Thanks to you for teaching me what I’ve learned). My question is. I’ve got the engine out to do the oil pump delete and the grenade switch delete. Somewhere on one of your videos I’m pretty sure I heard you say if you do the oil injection pump delete, you need to run a 82 jet. Is that the main jet or the pilot jet? Next question. Would you happen to know the part number? Thank you for your amazing knowledge and teaching us younger guys!!

Thak you for the kind words. Yeah, the jet is the pilot jet, as it affects the carburetion from idle all the way to full throttle.

I just put straight bars on with a finger throttle. The cable seems to be too short to keep it from turning all the way but it also doesn’t even pull the lever all the way back. Any tips?
@jetskijim007
@jetskijim007 21 күн бұрын
You have to unclip the throttle cable from the plate the steering bolts to. Then you can pull another inch of cable and hook it back. As for the throttle cable itself, you have to adjust it at the carb to take the slack out, and use a jam nut on the finger throttle end to space it out.

Hey man, I went through all your 650 videos but didn’t see it. You talked about converting the oil injection tank into a second fuel cell but I never saw it. Can you make a video or elaborate on this? I have a vented oil tank with a solid cap. I think this would be a slick idea if it’s simple but I haven’t found any old forums on it and just want an explanation. Thanks!!

Wonderful / helpful video. This together with your video on where and how to yank the assembly from the tank made this relatively easy. However, I spent about 2 hours tryig to figure out why my updated assembly (replaced the pump motor) wouldn't push any gas... Turns out my black and blue wires are crossed. Black is positive and blue is negative. I confirmed this watching your video closely, and sure enough, my black is in the plug position where your blue wire is and vice-versa. Switched the wires and back in business. Hopefully this helps someone and saves some head scratching....

Before removing fuel lines, loosen the gas cap to relieve fuel tank pressure. If this step is skipped, there will likely be fuel pouring out of the open end of your fuel line. I always start by loosening fuel cap to relieve pressure, then remove fuel line at fuel rail. Easier to catch remaining fuel with pig mat, and you get a feel for how the red clip works (DON'T BREAK IT!!)

Yes, 16 is only on public lakes, rivers, parks, etc. Private lakes, like the ones in your friends back yard are not regulated as a public waterway. As you get to know more people, you will find someone with a lake or pond on their property who will let you ride your ski on their lake. Good luck, and thanks for watching. :-)

I was wondering what factors lead to you using a 15 pitch prop. Is it based on engine power or weight of the rider? I’m thinking about taking mine apart this winter because I live up north. I ordered a pump stuffer and intake grate for it. I don’t know what pitch I have now but I want to check when I get it apart and would like to know if it’s good or if it’s worth replacing before reassembling… thanks
@jetskijim007
@jetskijim007 Ай бұрын
Engine horsepower is the only thing that matters. If the engine does not have enough power to spin the impeller at rpm, it will be ineffecient/slow. If a rider is heavier, it doesnt affect the impellers ability to move water through the pump, it just creates more drag on the ski itself moving forward. 98 percent of skis i come accross have too tall an impeller in them. A 15 impeller or 8/16 are fantastic impellers for probably 80% of 650's out there.

It’s in excellent shape but I want to go through it like you did with this one and just make it as reliable as possible. I ordered the pump stuffer with the slit but I might take the whole thing apart and check it out this winter. I’m going to try to find that gauge you had for checking pitch and see what I have in it.

Hi y'all, never commented on anything on here before, interesting video, I am doing one of these myself, but doing it a bit different, Have a couple of hulls lying around from custom skis so thought I would have a go.I always replace the entire fuel system with external filter, pump and regulator so it can be replaced without removing the motor to access the tank, also adjusting fuel pressure is how you adjust fuel mixture, stock is about 43psi..While the motor is out do a valve adjustment and oil change!!!! Fist off Im had to buy the starter solenoid base bracket, the ecm bracket and the coil brackets for a 1500sxr as they are different, all the 12f stuff is same bolt holes but different brackets. Second you need an sxr1500 tank and the float it sits in which is tough as they are back ordered to who knows when. Found a tank in Canada and glued pieces of a Husky kneeling pad to the bottom in strips, works fine. You also need the sxr 15 tank straps ,steering cable, throttle cable and battery box.Turn the ground and starter wires to face forward. I made a 4-1/4 inch disc out of aluminium for tank top with 2 1/4 pipe holes for fuel out and return. 12f motor fits fine with exhaust removed, Had to extend a lot of the harness to reach rear of the motor as the main harness plugs to the ecm at the front, soldered all connections and double shrink wrapped. Extended the run/off wiring to reach harness as handle pole is longer than on a sit down. I have connected the gauges at the rear of the motor, I will try it and then disconnect and try again. I have connected the crescent shaped steering sensor as I figure it probably reduces power on a sit down when turning ,but I have glued and then siliconed over the sensor trigger that sweeps over the crescent sensor in a straight on position, that is dead centred in the crescent so the ecm thinks the boat is going straight ,Also removed the tip over sensor thanks to Jims video.Running the stock 1500 sir pump as I have a few ,looks very similar to 12f just use elbows for water lines if u want use 12f. Used 12f reduction nozzle and turned 12f steering nozzle upside down ,trimmed extra lip off the end and spaced cable connection 1/2 inch or so {12f steering cable is on the other side ) G Ron amazon and buy a 4 pack of 1/4-28 stainless rod end bearings {14$} as the 15sxr cable is 1/4 -28 threaded at both ends, not 5mm like a 12f.Used stock 15sxr water box, changed my waterlines about a bit like usual, added 2 bypasses .Hope this helps, c u a body Beach!

It isn't gutless for the era. Hi Range will give respectable fuel economy on the highway while Low Range provides the guts for when the going gets tough. Back then 78 HP was sufficient and 100 was high power so compared to today's insanity with 1,000+ HP Street Vehicles from the factory and Soccer Mom Mini Vans sporting over 300 HP the more reasonable power of those vehicles might seem a bit tame. Best!
