The effect doesn't rely on that node. You can do it a number of ways including the method I used in the last video which is also on this topic. I thought I mentioned in the video the tool was available on my patreon but it's definitely not essential for this effect.

Sometimes it's fun to use different setups and learn more about base Houdini as it can help you with other projects where mops won't work but yes this is achievable through mops as well.
