I absolutely love how you get every bit out of your food. The bowls are clean! It drives me crazy to see people who waste food. I hear my Mom say, " They must not have worked for that food, the way they are wasting it!" She's been gone for 15 years and I still miss her. It's good to see others with her values!

You have no idea how long I have been waiting for someone else to echo this statement! My mother used to say “That people are starving over in Africa, so, don’t you dare waste that food!!” I am a firm believer in (waste not, want not).

It drives me bonkers when people waste food. My kids working in grocery and restaurant industries say it’s heartbreaking how much food is thrown away that they aren’t allowed to rescue. I wonder if it’s a generational thing because I had to clean my plate as a child and was taught to never take more than I could finish.

My great aunt when I was small used to send us apple butter that was out of this world delicious. Through my entire life I only found something similar in one place. Apple butter in the stores are not tasty. I finally tackled it last year after watching Heartway Farms video. I added a small amount of cherry juice like my family said yhey did. It turned out so fantastic and every time I eat it, it reminds me of my childhood.

Noticed your store bought brown sugar. Did you know it's simple to make and you'd never have to buy it again. It's made with granulated sugar and molasses. 1 cup to 1Tablespoon. I'll use 6 cups sugar with half cup of mollases into my mixer. Let it mix and fluff then put in a half gallon canning jar. Lasts us quite a long while before I need to make more. The mixing fluffs that 6 cups to 8 cups that's why I use 6. Just in case you didn't know.

Yumm!! I love apple butter. This sure beats the old fashioned way. I remember my mother, making applesauce from scratch, 😢 peeling bushels of apples, then turning it into applebutter. She made hers outside, in a huge copper kettle, over an open fire. She stirred for hours, using a long handled, wooden, applebutter paddle, with holes in it. I remember seeing bags of sugar, ground cinnamon, and a small bottle of cinnamon oil for flavoring. I'm not sure what else went into the kettle. I also remember clean up of the copper pot, was a good salt and vinegar scrub, followed with a good rinse. I use a couple drops of cinnamon oil, whenever I bake an apple pie.

@@RoseRedHomesteadmy mother cooked for a family of nine. Mine was only a family of 5, so I'm happy to say, mine were much smaller batches, made from applesauce I'd canned previously, or purchased apple sauce. The last batch I made, was in a roasting pan, in a slow oven. It needed only an occasional stir, not constantly like mom did. Mom's recipe was from an old Kerr canning book, which i now have, I checked, and it included sweet apple cider, cinnamon, allspice, and sugar, with her own addition of the cinnamon oil.

For thanksgiving I made apple cider and with all the left over apple I didn't wanna throw away 6 pounds of apples so I pureed them, And it already has the consistency of apple butter after watching this I just need to add sugar , apple cider vinegar and reduce My late great grandmother who passed 2 months ago made our entire family apple butter throughout the years , I hope it turns out the way she makes it. we thankfully got 6 jars full of the apple butter before she passed we are afraid to open them cause once we open one they'll go fast and it's the only thing we have left of her

We are sorry to hear about your grandmother. If I understand correctly you now have the ability to make apple butter any time you want. Jim

Here is a tip to help remove moisture from the apple butter. Place a kitchen towel over the crock pot then put the lid back on. The towel will absorb the moisture.

I have been making & gifting homemade applesauce using 3 different types of apples for years. I use a gallon of Apple cider instead of water to cook them down. One year I had the bright idea to buy large size cans of applesauce, it was horrible. I haven’t tried homemade applesauce, which I’m sure would be a better choice.

To keep my slow cooker lid aloof, I insert a toothpick between the pot and the lid. Works like a charm.

I would make applesauce and turn it into apple butter by adding the sugar and spices, putting it into a 225°oven overnight, making sure to cover the top. It was always done to perfection by morning. And kept people up at night from the gorgeous scent.

I am wondering what the item you used to lift the lid off the jar with is called. I would love to get one and can't find one on line. I am sure I am doing the search with the wrong wording. Also, I was looking for an apple butter recipe, so thank you! I love how you are truly educating us!

I heard that you can put a slice of bread in with the brown sugar to keep it moist. ❤

I don't can that much apple sauce, but i love apple butter. I buy the plain, unsweetened #10 cans (the large restaurant size) at Smart and Final, Walmart or a similar bulk store, and start with that. Nothing could be easier. The large cans are only about $7.50 for 108 ounces. Even the large, 46 ounce Great Value bottled of plain applesauce from Walmart work. They're less than $3.50.

I have unsweetened applesauce that I got too pureed last year, so I an going to try this again using your method and recipe! I did the puree part first when I made my applesauce so hopefully I will have better luck following your method because mine was such a flop last year, at least to me. My pastor's father said he liked it because it stayed on his biscuit 😂 It was kind of overcooked I thought.

@RoseRedHomestead I had to cook mine much longer because it was so thin to begin with. I had my most trusted applebutter testers (my pastor's parents!) try it, and they loved it! I never in a million years would have thought to put ACV in applebutter, but it really did add something! Thanks so much for the video!
