This is the second vid on Carplay features I’ve watched and both leave something out when it comes to showing your last parking location. So if you’re trying to do that and the option for it is not showing up on your phone this is what you have to do: First you have to enable a feature called “Significant Locations”. Go to Settings>Privacy>Location Services and scroll all the way to the bottom and select System Services, then select Significant Locations, and on the next screen enable Significant Locations. I think this is a setting a lot of people don’t like to use because technically it allows Apple to “track” you plus I hear it can use battery. Anyways once that is enabled, then get in your car and turn it on and connect to Carplay, and THEN you can go to Settings>Maps and enable Show Parked Location (in my experience the option will not show up immediately after enabling Significant Locations but it did for me when I started Carplay, but you can try it before). I hope that helped somebody. It drove me crazy until I figured it out. :P

Thanks for the info.. Can you tell me if there is a way to get sound from non CarPlay apps on my phone when connected to CarPlay? I have an alpine ILX 407 and I get notifications on my phone but no sound and sometimes miss them? Please let me know if there is a way to get sound on my iPhone and radio. I installed android on my old raspberry pi and used a carplay adapter and apk. I linked it up to the android screen control on my 7 year old kenwood head unit and it works! I may add... it is still more responsive than ford sync. but there's not much to compete with there.

One question: I just took delivery of a new VW ID.4 and while I am able to create a split screen with Apple Maps and my streaming app, Qobuz, I am not able to figure out how to do the same when listening to Sirius/XM Radio which is native to the car and not the phone. I was bale to do this with my previous (Mazda) vehicle. Is there a way to do this with my VW? Thx!

Hi Thank you for this video. Still in the custum section on my phone there seams to be some diffrences between your system and mine. The apps are mostly locked. I can take away some but those I want to take away and the worst, I can't add those I want. I would like to add IExit to my apple car play but the system is locked, the same with diffrent GPS. I am using specialised GPS to drive my RAM with an RV but I just can't add these to apple car play. Do you know a way to add them? thank you Allen

Hey so the reason I came here is when I get a call it occupies the entire screen. When I answer I then have to click maps again and then the split screen view to split screen which then shows call on bottom right where music would normally be. Is there a way to stay in split screen with map open so it goes right to that bottom right panel and Navi stays active??

By chance yesterday using Apple CarPlay and Apple Maps on my Honda the controls for sound for example which let you mute or allow the turn by turn instructions were displayed on the right hand side of the screen when they had always previously been on the left hand side of the screen. Thanks, i have android head unit with Zlink app to connect car play wirelessly, if anyone can help with solution... problems on mic functioning, when making calls via car play, the blue tooth on the head unit gets automatically off, my voice is not heard on the other end while i hear the caller very well. Same mic works well when the phone is connected only on BT and not on car play.

Just an FYI the appearance feature has nothing to do with whether the sun is going down or not. When this setting is in automatic it will dim the display when the headlights are activated and when in always dark the display is always dimmed whether or not the headlights are activated.

A few weeks ago the bar on the left hand side switched sides to the right side. I don’t know how I did that. (Aftermarket pioneer radio). When I disconnected the power (battery disconnected) and returned power to the car and radio it was back to the left hand side. Any idea how I did that?

That setting is in your car’s stereo not CarPlay or the iphone itself. Look in the stereo settings for CarPlay and then find an option called “driving position” that’s should be the setting
