Much respect to Viper. One year in China and his mandarin is already really good according to voice comms and it seems he did everything to fit in. Can’t say the same about Nuguri.

FPX is just loud. They and DoinB are actually people who don't give a fuck about how Nuguri feels. If you compare how much care the people and players in EDG gave to JieJie, FPX is just pretending to be a happy team. See how much emotional issues they actually have. Non of the players there was happy.

@@MZzz-cg4rt DoinB and tian DID try to integrate nuguri into the team, he simply ignored them or just gave them a short answer, where u could tell he wasnt even trying to fit in. But even if no one in fpx would actively try to talk to him, viper said his goal in the beginning was to get integrated into the team as fast as possible and still communicated with his teammates with his poor chinese skills. You shouldnt blame his teammates when u never even gave a fuck about them. Sure u could blame the coach stuff for not managing the team as good as they should‘ve, but as a professionell esports TEAM player, you should try to get along with ur teammates.

Just goes to show that, regardless of sport or e-sport, at the highest level, there is a degree of competitive intensity and conflict that most people cannot handle. The guys look kind of quiet and reserved but behind the scenes, there are a lot of egos and strong willed competitors going at each other. You have to admire that.

"the talents of a professional player not only entails how well they can play the game, or how great their character is. In fact the ability to recover from setbacks is also part of that talent." Coach maokai was HUGE in part of EDG's win. They were able to overcome their demons and start working together because the coach and staff made sure they did.
@grapejuice2 жыл бұрын
When EDG thanked the coaches and staff on stage during their winner's interview, it's not lip service. I never appreciated the extent of how much they were integral to establishing this culture till this documentary. They were breaking down, stressing out, going to Bo5s and fighting their demons and he never berated them and worked very, very hard to correct their mental state. He was fundamentally encouraging "anyone want to buy underwear?" and understood clearly what the potential concerns were and managed to address them (favouritism) I watched EDG's Worlds Mic Check before this and was amazed at how relaxed they were; they were encouraging each other so much you almost couldn't tell they were battling for the Summoner's Cup. This was all built by them and faciliated by the coach. ggwp to the boys. You guys beat yourselves and now you've beat the best

As a Chinese myself, the scolding from the coach is a very common way of lecturing. I was watching Dom reacting to this and he talked about the scolding and I was surprised, but I know I shouldnt be. Many times had I mentioned about culture was also a major factor regarding a team’s success and LCS teams just cant seem to understand (maybe except C9 and TL). Dom is right, if any of the coaches in LCS did that, it would be a ShitLonger and 7 days of KZbin content. Although he phrased it as “flame”, I couldn’t considered that as a “flame”. Flame is used in a toxic way more frequently, EDG’s coach was just giving a wake up call, asians may have slight aggressive way of scolding but thats just how it is.
@ryanhong27732 жыл бұрын
compare that to reginald who is just spouting bs and DEGRADING the team's mentality and finding people to blame
@Kai_soze2 жыл бұрын
It isn't flame. It's called coaching. Great coaches hold their players accountable for their play and at the same time help elevate their players to play better. The problem with NA is that coaches and players aren't treating their jobs like a serious sport. LCK and LPL teams are very serious and approach their games like any NBA/NFL coach would.
@kylemurray35262 жыл бұрын
It’s professionalism. They definitely have set the right culture for success. It’s supposed to be high stakes, high pressure. The coach, org, and players all seem to understand that. The LCS is made up of washed NA players clinging to their jobs due to nepotism and orgs/coaches who have no idea what a professional environment looks like much less possess the ability to create one. That’s the real difference. The LPL and LCK treat it like a job. Because it is. LCS it’s just “fuck around time” to collect a paycheck with no adults in charge.

2:37 There is a translation mistake of what Flandre said here. Flandre was describing Meiko. The correct sentence should be “He (meiko) like this game so much, practice seriously every single day. Sometimes (meiko) even feel flustered if there are no scrims. It (Meiko’s hardworking attitude) makes me feel embarrassed at times”
@however12t852 жыл бұрын

Compare to this and LCK, LEC and LCS teams are like kids plays. EDG shows the professionalism of coaching, training, caring of these players. When do you ever hear a western coach scold the players like commander to soldiers? Not to mention your genius team lead like Reginald that does nothing but subbotaging the team.
@hampustornros2 жыл бұрын
If a player like Scout or Meiko got yelled at by their coach in LEC or LCS that coach would be replaced immediately. Imo coaches are supposed to be good at handling people. Analysts are supposed to be good at strategy. Coaches in league are more often than not just analysts who call themselves coaches.
