Good lord I had been hand-writing, aligning, and spacing every letter and every word. That took forever. Being able to make your own font quickly like this is like a miracle compared to that laborious process. Thank you!
@ghostf1903 Жыл бұрын
I did that once for a film project- spent 4 hours making the typography and aligning it, etc. ... just to find out there's already a downloadable file for the font online 😭
@RobFike5 жыл бұрын
If you use the Image Trace window you can tell it to ignore white during the process and get only the solid black. Just makes it a tad bit easier.

When I did all this and then saw the Fontself costs €39 😭😭
@craigemery78573 жыл бұрын
Really? When I started using font design software they cost between $500 & $2000+. I think for what this allows you to create, the ease of use & especially the semi-pro tools included...39 Euro is an absolute bargain.
@JustJadeJJ3 жыл бұрын
@@craigemery7857 okay that's kind of a crappy answer... Some people can't afford to spend €39 at something.
@craigemery78573 жыл бұрын
@@JustJadeJJ apologies, just intended as a reality check. Anybody with an appreciation for the effort & cost of creating ‘useable’ software wouldn’t make the comment. Do you design & charge for your artwork/time? So if you spent 6 months on a project & the client said...”mmm, I only feel like paying you $5 for that” you’d have some understanding of what I’m getting at. I’ve been a creative for over 30 years & still get clients that do this. This not only devalues the developer’s efforts but also the efforts of those that use the software to create fonts capable of professional output/uses. There are plenty of free font design software options out there for ‘hobbiests’ or those that just want something quick & rough. Unfortunately software/computers democratising the creative process, while great in theory, often leads to a lack of appreciation for the creative process in general & in this case the art of type design & typography.
@rehanjamseotopicalmap3 жыл бұрын
@@JustJadeJJ You are right dear!
@pialee14753 жыл бұрын
@@craigemery7857 hey, here's a true reality check, not all people are as fortunate as you to have the resources and means. "mmm I only feel like paying you $5 for that" is a crappy comparison. Less fortunate people don't "feel like", they have no choice due to their circumstance. Don't look down on those who are forced to use the free font design software because if these people could afford the better software, why the hell would they settle for the "quick & rough for hobbyists" (as you call it)? Should they stop creating because they can't afford the good ones yet to appease you? hell naw. What makes people lack appreciation for the art of type design is because of elitists like you who make people feel crap about not having the capacity to do things the way you do. They'll get the better software WHEN THEY CAN. For now, they DO NOT need this judgement from people like you.

It will also save you a lot of copy/pasting from AI to other tools... And as a bonus, we keep shipping free updates quite often: www.fontself.com/release-notes/illustrator

@fontself5 жыл бұрын
Yes you can make taller glyphs that go above the ascender or below the descender - they might just be clipped in older apps. The warning message (click on orange icon) hints at another solution, which is to move your descender guide a bit below.
