Great ideas here! For your tempo issues you can sync the volca to some other clock's device via de midi input, anything sending clock will do, some daw on the computer, a keyboard, some pedal with tempo clock and midi...

What are you using to load the samples? The library system from the Korg website was giving me trouble...

I use the library from Korg’s site but it’s notoriously buggy

Wider knob fitted over bpm level might help dial in beats. Carve out a clear little superball to fit snug onto it, clear so the red light shines through and lights ball like fibre optic.
