A coworker back in the 80s brought this in a couple times as a treat, and I cannot ever forget it (maybe I'm crazy, but I think he actually brought in the appliance to fry it freshly). Thank you for this!

He's so right and his dad is so wrong. Scallions far better than cilantro.. ..although maybe not because his dad didn't use a lot. Cilantro is very strong, a lot of people have an enhanced taste for it, so when they put a lot on a dish (Mexican Salsa, Tacos, etc.. even Caldo(soup) De XYZ) a lot of people dislike it. Even 2/3 Mexicans dislike a lot, (which is why they dislike some salsas, caldos, and tacos.. but not others.)

You are not crazy, your co-worker knew a good snack which back in the 80's was unheard of in most places, same with hot wings & now both of those food items can be found about anywhere, nice comment my friend

If you despise mayo: miracle whip is nothing like it, far more sweet&sour taste.. and better for you usually Japanese Mayo? It's far different too, it's mayo mixed with spices and tastes far better if Mayo doesn't make your stomach hurt.. But if Mayo makes your stomach hurt, try Miracle Whip or Japanese Mayo. You use FAR LESS of it, like 1/3 or 1Tsp vs 1TBSP.. If you have a soft stomach for spices, though, try the miracle whip first.. you can even mix other stuff that doesn't hurt your stomach into it, like a little soy sauce or teryaki sauce, or DARK soy sauce which is even better since you need far less

Btw Avacado Oil is excellent to fry in, it has the MOST neutral flavor.. so you can reuse it too.. Peanut oil is way cheaper but you can only get 1 fry out of it because it starts to have it's own taste after 1 fry. Avocado oil, you can fry about 3 days in it. Especially if you do beef or chicken 1st, beef or chicken 2nd, and most importantly fish last. You can also do fish 3 days in a row with it. Using that advice you can get even more days out of it, if you already use your oil for more than 3 days.. But peanut oil, while a lot cheaper, literally changes flavor from the very 1st time you cook in it. It's only good for one day, unless you have a restaurant with a large reservoir

You guys need your own channel, a sub channel from ATK. I always have both mayo and miracle whip on hand, I also make my own mayo when I want something really good. Kewpie is good if you can find the real Japanese version and do not have to settle for the American formulation which is not as good as it does not have MSG, it uses yeast extract instead, and includes sugar which is not in the Japanese made product. It's been a long time since I last had shrimp toast and seeing as I have close to 8 lbs of shrimp in my freezer, maybe I will make some on the Labour Day weekend. Thanks for the idea!

All of the shrimp toast I have gotten in restaurants has had bread on both sides, actually like a crimp edged sandwich with the shrimp mixture inside. Other than that, they were very variable, with different sizes of shrimp, all the way from very fine up to whole shrimp, and with different seasonings in the fillings. They were never served with mayonnaise or Miracle Whip, although that sounds yummy. As for maryo vs miracle, I like both, but I was raised on tomato sandwiches with mayo and the mayo is my favorite condiment on salads.

I had it down to an artform and was fast, too :) Happy cooking everyone! I bought a cheap knife set for $20 at Christmas a few years ago and it had one of those big cleavers in it! Love it! That is funny that Miracle Whip is a big hit! Wow! Homemade mayonnaise is my fav. Not hard with an immersion blender. I agree about peanut oil being best for frying. I prefer Peanut Oil. Vegetable Oil (which is usually soybean oil) has this scent that I don't like. I prefer the smell of peanut oil. Pretty much my main reason. I used vegetable oil first because it was cheaper, but I realize that I don't fry often, so I'll pay the premium for peanut oil
@JaniceWithTheTarlovCysts Жыл бұрын
I normally eat membosa, or shrimp toast at a local Korean restaurant. I've made it at home too but I don't like the smell of cooking oil lingering in my small apartment. I'm going to try this recipe, it looks delicious. I grew up having miracle whip and the first time I tried mayonnaise as an adult, I hated it. About 2 years ago I was curious about Kewpie mayo, so bought a bottle and loved it. I have both miracle whip and Kewpie mayo in my fridge. Tuna & egg salad has to be made with miracle whip, Kewpie mayo for almost everything else. The Kewpie bottles drive me crazy though; so flimsy 😂
@jvallas Жыл бұрын
You should squeeze all the Kewpie mayo out in one fell swoop into a typical plastic condiment bottle or a jar. I agree - those bottles are very odd to work with, especially when getting empty. But they're cute in the wrapper 😁
