A couple of serious problems here, first in the U.S. anyway, you can no longer get "strike anywhere" matches which is what's needed as "strike on box" simply won't normally ignite that way and burn too slow if they manage it. Well you can get a version of "strike anywhere" here but what's sold as that type of match (usually as camping or survival items) is little more than a bad joke and they won't work either. The correct "strike anywhere" matches can be sold in the U.S. but D.O.T. regulations now require them to be transported as HAZMAT items making them so expensive they are no longer produced or sold here. Second as a kid growing up in the hills of Kentucky I can attest to the fact that while this gun does work it has at best the power of a BB gun! The correct matches were everywhere back in those days and we were well aware of the explosive nature of the things, we as kids built everything from versions of the gun described to literal pipe cannons loaded with dozens of match heads all discharging at once (yeah we played dangerously but we had fun!). So I know from experience this thing could be used for self defense only by a (VERY!) lucky shot to an assailant's eye! A good air pistol would be more effective so don't fall for the BullS#!t here, this thing is about as effective for self defense as a BB gun and way less accurate!

I think this is defined as a firearm, it's pretty similar to a blackpowder gun but it looks as powerful as an airsoft gun also adding a slider on top like a handgun has instead of the handle will make it a lot easier to pull it back, it can be done by making it cover the top and push back on the 2 ends of the pull handle, then go back into place with rubber bands (they don't need to be strong, it just needs to slide something that otherwise has no force acting on it while being easy to pull back with the bands still acting on it). this will make your 50 second long reload a little faster

In Australia, if there's even a slight possibility someone might actually use a device to defend themselves from other humans, namely humans with "vested authority," said device is deemed "dangerous to society" and immediately banned. Can't have old ladies doing things like walking around in public without a mask, when there's the grave danger of contagion killing a mind-bending 1-3% of those unfortunate enough to trust authorities unquestioningly.
