ChrisJ Fox why is self- esteem mistaken for ego
@chrisjfox87156 жыл бұрын
Marcus INfinity because it isnt self-esteem in the case of Kanye West. Jay Z, Rick Ross, Snoop Dogg, Puff Daddy, Childish Gambino, Pusha T, etc are all very confident without feeling the need to constantly try to "demand" (for lack of a better word) that people agree. They just do them, and anything else is just brushing it off their shoulders. They don't showcase any worry for what people think of them. They don't need validation to keep it pushing, whereas Kanye has literally had moments of expressing how he doesn't understand why people won't acknowledge that he's the greatest. Demanding that people love you when your record has the means to speak for itself is the opposite of self-esteem. Like Rick Ross said, "I ain't gotta prove nothin. Just look at the scoreboard." Just because you like Kanye's music and understand why he feels the way that he does and is human isn't proof that the confidence he tries to portray is airtight. He struggles with people not liking him *because* he's convinced that they should, but that struggle exists nonetheless - a struggle that the artists I mentioned don't seem to have a problem with at all.

I mean yea, they're not gonna talk about every latest rock or r&b album , but it's Kanye , one of the biggest hip-hop artists , and artists period. Also an album with alot of mixed reviews and controversial opinions. Why would you not want that?

King Marc That was a pop album. It had some interesting beats but the emo autotune delivery was irritating. You and the few people that liked your comment are in the vast minority who want that request. After that album, several rappers wanted to start singing and the genre got "soft". I like House music so I'm not some kind of hiphop purist but I know for a fact hiphop heads hated that album. Kanye is one of biggest black hiphop/pop artists. However, Kayne don't do big numbers like that (we aren't in 2008 anymore). But he always manages to have, at least, one hit on his albums. At this point, in his career he's an old rapper; he probably has 2 or 3 projects left max. Most of his peers have retired and it's the consensus that he's not right in the head. I don't know wtf he has to rap about anymore. Both Em and Jay whether their recent projects were well received or not, showed maturity in their content.
@GhostMikey06 жыл бұрын
Upful Soul you’re completely wrong. the 808s & heartbreak review has been a running joke in the DEHH reviews since their Watch the Throne review. also they have reviewed Childish Gambino, Frank Ocean and The Weeknd who are all not hip hop. finally 808s is Kanye’s second if not his most influential album. Drake, Gambino, Future, Uzi, Travis, etc all exist because of 808s.

I think the reason he says 400 years draws back to this line in Saint Pablo "Well... it all looks great Four hundred years later, we buyin' our own chains The light is before us brothers, so the devil workin' hard Real family stick together and see through the mirage" The way I interpreted it is that even now 400 years later, we are still being enslaved. Which draws back to "New Slaves" where he talks about how we even though there are no longer physical chains, the ones in power still have control systems and mental chains over us
@Mattwashere20136 жыл бұрын
I thin Myke is misinterpreting Kanye’s 400 year reference. He’s right about the 400 years of US slavery being about 250 years but, Kanye wasn’t being deep about it as to include 2019 in those years. That statement of 400 year slavery is pretty popular in black empowerment speech because it refers to the amount of time that transatlantic slave trading took place, back into the early 1500s. KRS had a line about it in “Sound of da Police.” It’s all encompassing towards Africans, but can be misleading when talking about slavery in the U.S.

Many months later, I feel like this holds up as one of the best videos on the whole Kanye debacle, by far. Myke is absolutely correct that if Kanye actually wanted to 'repurpose' the hat he would have done some lefty shit with it, not said that he loved Trump. He didn't repurpose anything, he tried to save the hat and its original meaning and glorify it.
@LotusFlowerMedia6 жыл бұрын
Kanye West is a black man from the south side of Chicago. His mother was an Africa American studies professor. So when he says "slavery was a choice" I now look at everything he's said in the past as a disingenuous marketing to sell records. To say that & ignore everything that historically came before is irritating and ignorant. My biggest issue is his failure of consistency with his ideologies and "Free Thinking". He called himself a leader of the people/culture. The same injustices he vocally preached about through his early career is the same injustices he willfully chooses to ignore now. He made millions discussing the conditions African Americans & other minorities have historically dealt with in America. So when kanye says all these inconsistent & illogical "free thoughts" for album promo I'm personally offended as an artist, a black man, & a consumer. I don't care that he agrees with trump. He's allowed to even though he's vocally said he has no clue of his policies. He's allowed to have an opinion even though its inconsistent with no contextual or factual weight. It's freedom of speech but freedom of speech should not be be followed by absence of thought. If your thought is not researched it's just ignorance. In 2018, can we please leave Kanye (and most entertainers) and stop looking for him to create real selfless change? Can we please start looking up to people like Elon Musk? A man whose single handedly changing the world for the better of mankind through exploration and science. Im talking about a real humanitarian not an oblivious entertainer whose disconnected from realty.

So Rod's question about Kanye repurposing MAGA is interesting, but I think Myke's response is a little off. The question for Rod to answer isn't really "does Kanye truly believe that he's doing that?" but "could it be effective if he does?" Because in order to repurpose MAGA for black people, there would have to be a time when America was great for black people to which to return. It makes no sense even if Kanye really does believe that that's what he's doing.

T. Stamp hence it was either incredibly stupid for him to go to tmz or entirely premeditated. If there's anyone that knows how much of a soundbite culture we live in, it's Ye. He wants to be better understood by people so he goes into the den of the very place that's most likely to take him out of context? Interesting.
@chrisjfox87156 жыл бұрын
R Parker I don't hate Kanye, and I wasn't personally offended by anything he said...but I'm not blinded by some need to defend the PR "blunder" he made (which was likely very intentional). I simply find it silly how people will admit that he's not the best communicator but then blame anyone but Ye for misreading his message. I also find it silly how they can be selective about the 400yrs comment to only be in reference to the latter part of those years but be flabbergasted that some people would interpret it to include the early part of those years. It's like a politician scheduling an impromptu sitdown with a partisan rival, then saying the words "the millions of black people in this country are lazy and unemployed," but then proceeds to give a long, nuanced message of clarification. In this soundbite culture, no amount of clarification is going to get some people to look past the fact that those original words still came out of that politician's mouth. People saying "if you listen to the rest of what he said then you'll realize that he wasn't talking about all black people, just these particular people that do these particular things." Yet no amount of nuance and clarification would ever get most people to give the rest of that politician's message a chance, because that starter would be an obviously horrible way to start the conversation...with the true danger of it being the types of people that would latch on to those first words to agreeingly validate their racist views. Some say "How is it that people can't understand that Kanye meant 400yrs including today?," to which I say "how is it that *you* can't understand how people would obviously misunderstand it to include yesterday??" *Should* people not be so reactionary and learn to research beyond soundbites? Of course. But they don't...and Kanye knew that before he stepped foot into TMZ, of all places.

William Cooper actually whites were servants and couldnt be mistreated legally and they were only servants as a way to pay back their masters. Also slavery continued even after it was abolished by loop holes such as share cropping and in the prisions which continued into the 1960's.

Either way he was specifically talking about blaxk enslavement and tried to cover it by doing that,"i like the word imprisoned crap"

How has kanye convinced so many people that he is some intellectual powerhouse when he is so uninformed about the shit he talks about?

mikeframbo ig Damn some people don't get it (you), have an objective mind and don't assume society standards...Ye sounds crazy but he's onto something

Kanye is a musical genius, I'll still agree to that, but socially he's everywhere, sometimes he's spot on and sometimes he's off especially recently.

MrAjama9 All he is doing is spewing meaningless platitudes at us and expecting us to hold him up as some philosopher. I'm not buying it.

William Cooper No I heard everything he said don't make assumptions. And from his words over the past couple weeks I can see he is woefully ill informed about everything he talks about.

This is why education is important. So many people idolize him and they take what he says as truth.

IMO the Kanye wearing the hat to redefine is one of the things I can understand and believe. He did the same thing with the confederate flag during the Yeezus era.

Jee Hone... And it was dumb then too.
@chrisguido64366 жыл бұрын
Not arguing whether or not it's dumb, just the fact that Kanye most likely did have this idea in mind. I personally don't think it's that bad of an idea, the hat has pretty bad connotations right now so I don't have an issue with the idea. Regardless, my original comment was just me saying I don't agree with Myke.
@ChainsGone20126 жыл бұрын
Jee Hone.... I'm not disagreeing necessarily. I think he THINKS he can change it, but I also KNOW he loves controversy. Otherwise he'd STILL be rocking the Confederate flag clothing

I absolutely agree with Feefo. You can't act like Kanye has no responsibility, and it's all the uneducated peoples' fault that they believe him. Would you abstain criticism towards the school system for not educating these 'uneducated' people, because the people should do it themselves? hell no. We hold media, advertising and schools to certain (I concede, lenient) standards, yet for someone like Kanye with such a huge impact, he gets off scott free. You fucking bet he has a responsibility for the community he is speaking for. He's reaching people who don't hear any other perspectives on behalf of the black community, so by design, for them, he is talking for black people cmon Mike, you're a smart dude, and you've referenced before about issues with the system havjng consequences on individuals/communities
