This technique of making a spiral bouquet is much less complicated than constantly rotating the bouquet with the addition of each element. I can’t wait to give it a try. Thank you!
@floristsonfarmsАй бұрын
Yes! That method works great for larger spiral bouquets; but for a small bouquet like these I don’t think it’s efficient enough.

On the other hand I am finished digging up the dahlias and have packed them away! Only have the last carrots and leeks to dig and some garlic to plant before snow until april!

Thank you so much for sharing this video. I had been doing spiral market bouquets this summer, and always found the first couple stem placements very awkward. Interesting to see you start it with a big cross. I'm looking forward to trying this and see if I can get my speed up. I love the way you combine colours in such a natural looking way.

Bouquet making probably took me 3 times longer than necessary because my table was not organized and I felt like I just kept making circles grabbing at flowers. Another brilliant video! This was so helpful! Making bouquets is hard for me, (I’m still learning) I either end crushing and snapping stems especially working with Tulips!🌷🙄 or the bouquet looks too tight and squashed up together!😩 I’m all fingers and thumbs and then the stems drop down so I have to pull them up again. I guess it’s practice! Looking forward to your next video already! 😍 keep them coming! 🌸💕

@floristsonfarmsАй бұрын
It’s not, more like a coated freezer paper, and I wish I could find a product link for you but it was a one-off purchase. But parchment paper would be pretty, that’s an intriguing thought!
@charleyatdownrightcreative7237Ай бұрын
I use parchment paper for my small market bouquets! I buy the half sheet rectangles, I think 15x19 maybe? It works well. It doesn't absorb water. It is a lot thinner and will get crinkled pretty quickly from customers picking their favorite bouquet. It's also significantly cheaper for a small scale grower. It works. However, I really like the look of kraft paper instead, bc of the thickness and larger size makes the bouquet feel larger. For next year I'll probably be getting Coated kraft.

@floristsonfarmsАй бұрын
You are so welcome! I don’t; but the answer is: local wholesalers, domestic wholesalers, retail stores, thrift stores, and Amazon! For florists of my scale, all of the above can work and it’s not necessarily wholesale where I find the better prices 😄

You make such beautiful bouquets! I would love to hear how you decide on recipes. I always struggle with knowing what colors look good together and end up over stuffing, and it ends up like a jumbled mess. Im definitely going to try your x method building bouquets. Hope the atmospheric river didn't hit you too hard. It was definitely an indoor day today. Except, of course, this morning and evening when I set up and took down my flower wagon flowers. Got totally soaked doing that.
@floristsonfarmsАй бұрын
It must be travelling from you to me because we had some overnight but yesterday daytime was pretty casual! Although I think them calling it ‘atmospheric river’ sets up an expectation of a massive rain event, rather than just ‘raining like cats and dogs’ like it does and always has here 😂. Your flower season must be winding to a close pretty quickly? I’m seeing some 3 degree forecasts for Mon/Tuesday which can translate to frost on our farm. We shall see!
@EvelynM-vlogsАй бұрын
@@floristsonfarms Maybe it missed you. The radio was calling for us to get a category 3 atmospheric river, I had never heard of the categories, so I googled it. It is based on the amount of rain dumped and the duration of the rain. The 5 categories are based on the amount of potential damage. A category three means there will be some road flooding and river swelling. It is a way to let people know what to expect. We get far more rain than Vaancouver or Victoria by nature, and I would say this pineapple express was definitely an intense diluge and also very prolonged. It started before we woke and was still going strong at the end of the day - windy too. My poor dahlias looked absolutely drenched and exhausted this morning. I still get the odd cosmos or snapdragon but mainly I am relying on the dahlias at this time of year. Mon and Tues are forecast for 1deg, but we are pretty close to sea level and those temps are for our airport which is more inland and a higher elevation. So, like you, I wait and see.

Please can you say why it is healthy for the stems to have a spiral, rather than a criss-crossing?
@floristsonfarmsАй бұрын
Oh yes absolutely! Criss crossing can result in broken, bruised, and damaged stems. It also doesn’t as easily allow us to make adjustments like stem insertions and raise and lower stems as needed. 🙂
@sallyazzato3481Ай бұрын
For a $20 price point, with the goal of still an elevated look, would you just use less stems, but still several varieties, or go more with a tonal, straight bunch
@floristsonfarmsАй бұрын
For a mixed bouquet, there’d have to still be some variety. A straight bunch is just as you say: a bunch, not a bouquet 🙂
@DeanaNewell-s5fАй бұрын
Why did you pick the Zinnia as your focal point? What determines that decision?
@floristsonfarmsАй бұрын
Great question! Zinnias (more especially the brighter ones rather than a muted version of Queen Lime Red) tend to draw the eye, so since I wasn’t using a singular large dahlia; but two smaller identical ones, I opted to space those two dahlias out and plop the zinnia more central to help grab the eye.
