I had a similar Grandfather too, since all my cousins are mostly girls, I was the first one to be the boy. I mean rather 2nd but the 1st one didn't inherit the family name since his mother had the name and it became middle name on him, but I was the first one to inherit it as a boy and man, they really provided everything until I grew up. But the sad thing is, I wasn't able to spend some time with my Grandfather. Before I even got a chance to do it, he died because of cancer, I really feel bad that I did it too late.

I remember my grandparents having almost the same kind of relationship as these two lovebirds. my grandparents never finished elementary due to poverty and was forced to marry by my great grandparents in order to save my grandma from being kidnapped and forced to be a comfort woman by the Japanese during the war. they had a hard time raising mom and was always in a constant debt but they managed it somehow and remarried again decades after as an old couple. however, they're gone now but watching this anime make it nostalgic to me and makes me remember how I used to listen to their stories.

So, apparently Grandma regresses in age and forgets grandpa. But due to some reason, she may stay alive much longer to outlive Grandpa and several generations of their family. This realization, seemed to cause her to regress back to her more nihilistic, colder youth. This outlook being the result of her harsh childhood. On top of the fact that she was one of the few survivors of the bombings of Japan in WW2, her younger self being more cold makes sense. Grandpa does eventually bring her back, but there is still the lingering fear she may outlive her family, and regress back to that darker depression. Even if she doesn’t, she may not love again, not when she may outlive another husband she meets. But, I don’t see her doing that. The way I see it, something internal, emotionally or psychologically, in her, may be causing the curse to affect her differently. My hope, is that she dies with him, not years later. Otherwise, her younger self could do something…. drastic. Maybe, her being greed to die, is as simple as letting go of last trauma/lain? But, that’s easier said than done. Immortality is almost always a curse disguised as a gift.

no they both age the same. she was just scared that she would out live her family because of her being young again and because her husband became old again. however they can switch between being old and young willingly but they didn’t know that before causing her fear. She lost her memories because when she tried to become old again she accidentally hit her head on the hourglass (in both of their dreams there is an hour glass they flip to become either old your young) and it broke which caused her to become young and lose her memories. adding on to the hour glass. the sand inside of it is their lifespan and there is a whole on the top and bottom of the hourglass which sand falls out so no matter which way they flip it they will still age and die when all the sand runs out.

basically they can control their age by flipping an hourglass that they see in their dreams when they sleep. so they can choose whenever they want to look old or young. they both needed to look old for some reason (i forgot what exactly but it's not that important) however while flipping her hourglass, grandma accidentally broke one of the support beams, that's why her age regressed. grandpa can still flip his hourglass (he does so later in the episode to look young again)

they both age the same. The confusion comes from when the grandpa became old again on accident. lemme break it down for u. They both dream of an hourglass. The hourglass has sand in it. The sand being their lifespan. There’s a hole on both the top and bottom of the hourglass. When the hour glass has no sand left they both die. When they flip the hourglass they either become young or old. If they flip the hourglass while they are old, they become young and vice versa. They didn’t know this before this and the last episode though. So the grandpa accidentally flipped the hour glass and became old again. This caused them to believe that the grandpa isn’t going to live as long as the grandma since she was still young. The grandpa put it together and realized they can become old or young whenever they want and that they still will die of old age when the sand runs out. The grandma still ages don’t worry
