Having Stargardt's disease will not hold you back from an amazing career. Here is how we did it. This is part of our series in our comprehensive guide on thriving with Stargardt's disease.

Two Blind Brothers is a luxury clothing line on a mission to cure blindness. Founders Bradford and Bryan Manning were both diagnosed with an eye disease that causes blindness over time. This condition has inspired a special vigilance for details, a passion that carries over into the construction of their clothing line.

I am a nurse with Stargardt. I became a nurse before Stargardt. So far my vision is still pretty good. I use the magnifier on my laptop and the zoom on my phone. I also use my phones camera to blow things up, mostly to decipher handwriting. As long as I have good direct lighting I am still able to read medication orders, bottles, etc. Right now I am a psych nurse so most of my work revolves around talking to patients, which works out great. The hardest part of my job is doing notes. It takes ne a lot longer to type notes than most.

I'm 15 and was recently diagnosed with stargaurd, one of the careers I'm interested in is something in the Healthcare department. My visions pretty fine with only reading and farsight being a problem. Both this video and what you have Commented gives me some hope for the future!

I was a forensic handwriting examiner for 10 years and had to give it up when I was diagnosed at 35. I grieved first years for the career I loved, but have emerged on the other side a stronger, better person for having had the struggle.

Very useful content guys. Thanks for creating such a channel. I am Geetanshu from India, suffering from the same issue for last ten years. Life has been tough with Stargardt's. I had to change my job many a times. From to copy writer to a yoga teacher is my story. Just wish to say all having Stargardt's disease, guys stay strong, do what you love, go easy, and don't compare your life with others. Because you can see BIG THINGS , the important things in life. Take care!

Loved this! You guys are an inspiration! I was diagnosed with Stargardt’s when I was 3 years old. School was tough, but I pulled through and even went on to get a college degree in Business Management. I currently work for my family’s textile business, we supply cloth to retail stores and bespoke tailors. My passion though has always been books. (Ironic, right?) Been a voracious reader and a budding writer throughout my 27 years of life. But it’s starting to get a whole lot harder to read at a stretch without causing eye fatigue. (Does everyone face this?) The zoom feature on Kindle has been a life-saver so far but I’d be lying if I said I wasn’t worried about what the future holds. I’m currently working on my first novel. I’m determined not to give up and let Stargardt’s get the better of me!

Having stargardts, the biggest hitch in terms of employment has been not being able to drive. Most employers I've interviewed with seem to suddenly find somebody else as soon as they find out I don't have a driver's license. :(

I think web development or programming in general it's a good fit for us that are VIP i started with stargardt in my early 20's now I'm 34 and i had found that i can keep doing the same work just using zoom when necessary and also typing code without the need of looking at the screen in detail since you can use tools in visual studio code for example that will give you a high contrast theme and other plugins that can help you when mispelling words or keywords i wil highly suggest to everyone in general to give it a shot to doing some programming specially if you are a VIP like me.

This is a very specific question regarding this, but how would you two handle being a cashier and working with cash? Can you see the printed numbers or would you need to use the magnification on your phone? Thanks in advance 😊

Hi, do both of you see colors well? I know Stargardt's can lead to color vision loss. Have either of you experienced this? If so, what does that look like? I know this isn't the topic of the video, but I haven't come across one where this has been answered. Thanks in advance!
@TwoBlindBrothers

Thank you for asking! Brad and Bryan can see colors. They struggle like a lot of people with sometimes distinguishing between black and navy. They have a bunch of videos up on KZbin explaining how they see and take on daily tasks and travel. They mainly describe their vision impairment as having vaseline rubbed all over the center of your glasses.
