This really helped reassure me with my little one. 4 days in and I noticed the soreness that sticks around for a minute and then the latch becomes more comfortable. I was feeding my little one and watching this after another night of cluster feeding. You saved me in the hospital, I saw the IBCLC, but I didn’t feel like I had any questions. I love you !

Im so happy my birth class mentioned nipple shields! They were a life savor. Used for the 1st week. That was all i needed. They really help not make breastfeeding excruciating. I was able to have an all natural birth in my hospital, no contraction hurt as bad as my baby's 1st latch! I thought my breast was being cut off. Seriously.

The same thing happened to me! I cried from nipple pain, but didn't shed a tear with contractions. Nipple shields ARE A BLESSING.

That video would have been so used full for me about 10 month ago, I have had a family member tell me that i was over feeding my newborn (every time he asked for it) and I thought she was right she did it once upon a time so I listen and my baby was under feed and his health was almost in danger , because of the weight lost so if i ever get an other baby the only person I will listen to is a lactation expert .

I met a mom who was giving her 6 week old 12oz (YES TWELVE) oz bottles of formula. I wanted to cry. I offered my support and some advice, gave her my number. She never called but the next time I saw her she told me she had his tongue tie clipped...so I hope that helped a bit but...you're right. even formula moms need knowledge & support.

Hi, im a new mom. My newborn is 14 days old. Currently, im pumping my breast milk and bottle feeding it to my newborn (because im having a hard time nursing my baby since i have inverted nipples), is 2-3 hrs interval for feeding my newborn is still ok?

I wished I watched this when I was in the hospital with my daughter. No one showed me how to latch so I was crying every time she fed. Once we got home we figured things out on our own and we are 5 months in to our breastfeeding experience. She is very tiny though. She’s in the 9th percentile so I am concerned she isn’t getting what she needs; but she does look healthy. She feeds every 2 hours and I’ve tried everything to get my supply up. Mothers milk tea, fenugreek, more milk plus, power pumping. I know I probably shouldn’t be worrying because her doctors aren’t very concerned. But it’s my job as a mom to worry lol

My LO keeps bobbing over and under the 9th centile. He's 13 months old. He's able to say 10 words and LOVES walking (Holding hands or using his push toy, or 5 or so steps by himself). Our HV told us if a baby is happy, looks proportionate and healthy, and is developing on track (A little above or below is usually fine too) then they're getting enough of what they need. You only really need to worry when baby loses weight or suddenly slows down the weight gain, I was told. My LO slows down a bit when teething as it makes him lose his appetite, and he's always teething atm. >< Some babies are just smaller. And some have a faster metabolism. If the Dr's aren't worried, and baby seems perfectly well, you probably don't -need- to either. But, being a mother, there'll always be something. 😅 Hope things go well for you! :)

Take a look at your water intake as well. I have never drank more water! You need SOOOO MUCH MORE water than your normally drink. My pediatrician friend kept forcing water down my throat whether I was thirsty or not. I hated her at first but then I got used to it and now I literally can't get enough water. My body just needs it. My supply drastically increased between the time she first found out how little water I was drinking and now!

@@alyciabrown5462 I bought a tumbler with straw at dollar tree. It's 16oz and I go through it probably every hour. It was hard at first cause I never was a water drinker but the more I forced it, the easier it became. Now my body CRAVES the water so I never forget to drink. I'm so thirsty that I feel I need it. It took me about a week of "force drinking" to get to the point of my body simply letting me know it wantes more. Maybe set a timer, every 30 min try to drink a cup until it becomes second nature.

Alycia Brown what are some things that can increase breast milk?
@staceyhunt6769

My LO is 13 months. He NEVER wanted both breasts. I had forceful let-down AND oversupply so he'd get force-fed all he needed and then some from the first breast. So I had to swap which I used each feed. It was so scary seeing this tiny newborn near drowning in milk, spilling out the side of his mouth, sometimes eyes wide with terror from it. Despite that, the midwife and health visitor STILL tried to force him to feed from both sides. :( Sometimes, even the 'experts' and 'help' give nothing but misinformation. :( Nice to see somewhere gets things straight.

My baby has a great latch apart from the part where he rolls his upper lip under. It's INCREDIBLY painful. The pressure from his lip is insane. Nipple Shields are a lifesaver when his latch is almost impossible to correct (flipping the lip out is tricky with one hand). Every now and then he has a normal latch and it's lovely 😂.

She wants the breast all the time since week 3... you said we can’t overfeed a breast fed baby but if my baby wants me to soothe wouldn’t that be consider overfeeding my baby? She want the breast to sleep, to soothe, to eat. After she eats sometimes she spits up. Why the spit up?

I exclusively pump for my 3m old twins. And they are now starting to eat 5-6oz every feeding. 5 feedings a day. I also have to give them formula becuase I don't make enough milk. I try to pump about every 2 to 3hrs to make more and drink lots of water. I am wondering if there are any more ways I can try to up my supply of milk? I pump 30oz total a day. And I am planning to go back to keto in Jan. I'm worried I won't be able to make enough milk for my babies.

Oh my goodness I had the toe curling pain, tears running down my face, nauseating pain the second day in the hospital and my nurse just blew it off and said that it's normal and to keep trying. She didn't even come into the room too see if my baby was latched good. Then she handed me a pump and didn't tell me how to use it or even how to put it together. I have a 4 month old baby boy and I have been MOSTLY exclusively breast feeding. There are times when my breasts feel empty and when baby is hungry and is trying to eat, he starts to get frustrated because I’m not letting down and then I feel like I have no milk in me so I cave and give him a bottle. I don’t know what to do. I get advice saying to pump while he’s eating but what if he’s still hungry after one side and still wants more? Now I just emptied out the other side (I know you don’t ever empty but that’s how it feels) and to top it off he’s underweight too so his doctor wants me to up his calorie intake and now I feel inadequate as a mom to feed my baby.

My baby was 7 weeks early and is now 9 weeks old. Breastfeeding and getting the latch right has been a uphill struggle and she rarely seems satisfied after a feed especially at night. I end up quite sore and reluctantly end up topping her up with either expressed milk or formula. Hoping something clicks soon as I don’t feel like my breastfeeding journey has been too great so far :(

Drinking alot of water - and I mean alot - has really helped me. You need to drink more because you need the extra water to actually produce milk. What you were drinking pre pregnancy was enough just for you. Now you need enough water for you AND to create milk.

I wish I had the support I needed. I didn’t want to give formula but I didn’t know the lip tie was impacting her eating. She still does both at 6 weeks today but I want to build up supply for my husband to have time to feed. I don’t have the initial pain anymore but I wish I never had any shooting pain at all. I also had breast surgery so I’m blessed and shocked by my supply even though it’s low. I’m drinking teas and taking supplements and massaging essential oils. When will it come in abundance?

lisa gaeta that is perfectly normal. If you are nursing full time and you are able to get that much while pumping it’s a good thing. I have been told a pump is not your baby so your baby is able to get out more milk out than the pump can. So don’t worry. Hope this helps 😊

Is it true that trying to only pump to feed your baby will dry you up? My son is now a week old and will still latch on the breast but gets frustrated from it not coming as quickly as the bottle which is why i have went the pumping route. Other moms keep telling me that is only going to get me to stop producing milk which scares me because my only concern is him eating breast milk instead of formula for as long as i can.

Thank you for making these videos! I’ll have a newborn at the beginning of May. It’ll be our last baby and I want SO desperately for breastfeeding to work out, and I feel so lost! I don’t know what questions to even ask and how to properly research. I’m at the point of just trying to research everything that can possibly go wrong just to make sure that I have all of the right supplies and info to help me, so that I don’t freak out and give up. I have to have c sections, is there anything extra that I might need to know? We are also getting my tubes tied, and they’re planning to give me some anti-anxiety meds because I almost died during my last one. I’m worried baby will be too sleepy to feed properly.

What you want to do is ask for the lactation consultant. They are going to calm you down and teach you how to latch and how to feel comfortable with feedings. You can get nipple shields. You can get nipple cream. Ask them for a hand pump so you can get it out and not be engorged, also get ice to put your pumped milk in because your first milk has colostrum you want to save it and freeze it for later. Now if you have trouble latching w baby they might have tongue ties or lip ties that prevent them from being able to move their mouth correctly. You can have the doctor or lactation consultant look to see if that's the problem. Now if you can't latch but babys losing weight don't panic, ask for an sns (supplemental nursing system) It gives baby your milk or formula but it makes sure your baby doesn't get used to a bottle instead of the nipple. Don't let people tell you they don't have it, ask them to go check. Also you can pump your milk and then syringe feed the baby which will help keep baby calm and then you can try to latch since the hunger cue wasn't missed. When latching you want to help get baby on the nipple but don't hold babys head so still that they can't move. Sometimes baby wants to back up because they are getting a lot of milk at once and need to move so they don't cough or sputter. Be supportive but don't prevent them from moving or constantly try to put them back on. Let them find a rythmn. You want to sandwich the nipple to help it fit into babies mouth. Put more care into squeezing the underside of breast than the top because babys chin helps push the milk out and they need to get in there. Finding a way to hold baby can be a struggle use pillows or nursing pillows point babys tummy to you. Find what works for y'all but again you can syringe feed baby a little of your milk to get them to settled down enough to where you can get them on the boob. Lol unhappy baby doesn't want to latch. If you have more questions hit me up. You don't have to be in pain and be scared of your baby starving stick with it and you'll get it down momma💜💜💜💜 don't let doctors bully you into formula either.

maidenandcrone maidenandcrone Thank you, thank you, thank you!!!!! That was amazing advice! I’m literally going to screenshot and put in the notes section of my phone! lol. I have had them give my baby a bottle without my permission before. It ruined my chances with our 3rd that latched beautifully! My last had a high pallet, but they didn’t figure it out until after I was already engorged, bleeding, and crying from pain. My nipples were basically flat by that point because I was that engorged. :( I hand expressed like a crazy person, and it just didn’t help. Compresses felt amazing, but it didn’t help very much. So, I’m trying really hard to not get to that point again. lol I tried to fight through it, but it was so awful. :( I was sick when I came home from the hospital and thought that I would get baby sick if I kept bf’ing, so I bottlefed until I wasn’t sick anymore. 🤦🏻‍♀️ Basically, I was a mess and I had all of the wrong info going in. So, thank you SO SO much for that! ❤️I’m going to create a notebook full of notes, tips, and tricks so that I can feel confident going in.

Anastasia Ciriaco you need to help your baby increase your milk supply by nursing more, not giving a bottle. If you give extra milk you didn’t produce then your body will never know it needs to make more. Nursing works on supply and demand.

Hi! Drink tons of water, eat oatmeal everyday and drink Mother’s Milk tea. Also, you have to make sure you get enough to eat everyday too. Also, stay away from peppermint. Look up online what foods help supply and what foods lower supply. Best of luck and I hope your supply goes up!
