Hello! Thank you so much for sharing this info! I don’t think enough women are aware that relactating or bringing back a milk supply is possible! I stopped BF at 2 weeks due to severe postpartum depression, and at 7 weeks I decided to bring my supply back. I started with just drops from one breast in a 24 hour period. After 30 days of around the clock pumping I was able to talk my LO into relatching (a very painstaking process). Now at 4 months she’s EBF and has been for over a month. It’s amazing to get back that breastfeeding relationship after I thought it was long gone!! She definitely prefers the breast, and doesn’t want a bottle.

Mandy Irby you’re welcome! The newborn phase was extremely tough for me, and I had to give some of the feeding responsibility to my husband and helpers to alleviate my depression. Mainly, I needed sleep, and my hormones were crazy! After I felt more regulated with my sleep and mood, I longed to experience breastfeeding again. I spoke with an IBCLC with Breastfeeding USA after I was able to produce 13 oz a day, and she talked me through re-latching. My LO finally latched with co-bathing and would eat from the breast at night when she was extremely sleepy. We used a SNS tube to make sure she associated the breast with food and also to stimulate more milk production. I’m so glad we were able to get her back to the breast. It definitely took lots of support from family-because I felt crazy pumping empty breasts !! But one day I could offer her 3 oz of milk added together from a couple days of pumps, and I was over the moon! I guarded that milk with my life!!!

This gives me hope. I am planning on relactating again but I’m scared that it won’t work for me. My son was formula fed since we got out of the hospital because he had jaundice and needed to passed all 3 test for us to go home sadly I didn’t have milk at all! He did pass and was able to go home but not without formula while we wait for my milk to come in. He also had tongue tie and lip tie and got that fixed. Took him a while to latch good. Pumping made me so depressed that I’d cry every session some days I don’t pump because I was so stressed out especially when I only get a drop each session. He’s thriving on formula but I really do want to try breastfeed him again. I tried supplements to boost my supply but so far nothing works. It’s been 2 weeks since I stopped. I want to start again but I’m scared.

My daughter is 6 months old and I've been relactating for 6 weeks so far. I'm producing maybe 1ml per pump session. I've read (in a relactation manual from the World Health Organizationl) that it takes about as long to regain your supply as it has been since you've stopped). Even though I have 0 support, I am still trying. My daughter has an appt to get checked for lip/tongue ties next month. I am trying slowly to coax her back to the breast in the meantime. As soon as I can get her to start latching I have an SNS I'll use until my supply goes up.

@@ashezr90 it’s not 🥺🥺 I can get about 4 ounces A DAY. Which is almost nothing compared to what he’s eating. He latches well, I use the pump but have been stuck on the same 4 ounces for two weeks. Doctor said its honestly not worth it, to try and keep it up until he’s 8 weeks (few days from now) when his own immune system kicks in so he gets some breastmilk and then to just stop. I’m exhausted from pumping and doctor doesn’t think I’ll be able to make more milk than this, that it’s so little that should I stop pumping within 2 days it would dry up 🥺🥺🤷🏻‍♀️🤷🏻‍♀️

This happened to me. I just tried to power pump and feed/pump every two hours and it slowly came back. It comes very slow. Over a week. Maybe more. You have to be very patient. I was like you but read someone else’s comment and it is working just have to be consistent. 💪🏽

I subscribed and liked to support your efforts. Some excellent information, (PLEASE improve the audio!!) We already have a good but older breast pump and she has breastfed before but last time was a few years ago, We know it is possible to induce again and are willing to consider safe hormones but will likely go with just stimulation program initially. This will be to induce flow not to support a baby but for potential arthritis suppression and other health benefits. I was unable to find the other video segments you referred to - #2 and #3; as I said we have a pump and I like to suckle, so short of patience and better adherence to the schedule, (and rest, extra 500/D cals and stress management - what else can we do to enhance the results? Thanks for this. And yes - I am male. And no I do not intend to induce in myself! (And, don't be a hater YT, please. LOTS of benefits from breast milk!)

From what I've researched you need to regularly pump even if nothing comes out. The stimulation develops the mammary glands and eventually they'll start making milk. Some women use hormones, some don't. I'm in the same boat

My baby girl was exclusively breastfed up to 7 and half weeks. I had great milk supply and was feeding directly and also pumping about 5 ounces a day for storage. Hello! I didn’t breastfeed, my now 7mo old, for multiple reasons...the main reason being that I am on anti-anxiety medications. While my psychiatrist assured me that my low dose was safe for baby, I was still not 100% convinced. Not a day goes by that I don’t feel guilt for not breastfeeding her. I have often thought of relactating and know the work that goes into it and I am willing to put in the work if I know that it’ll be safe for her. It’s been 5 months since I’ve pumped and just started again 6 days ago. I am seeing drops or milk come to the nipple but not enough to collect. Will this increase or no? My daughter is 6 months old and I'm trying to get her to relatch. Don't give up! It is also possible for you to relactate, you just have to pump consistently and a lot- at least 8 times per day. You can do it if you have a pump and are able to sacrifice the time to pump!

Jennifer Branesky I heard is def possible there’s even tools to help you so that, especially if you’re adopting a baby. Medela sells this supplementing feeder mechanism. It’s meant for teach babies to latch while helping you relactate. It’s worth a try!

I pretty much didn’t pump at all until 5/6 weeks out. I was told by two lactation specialists that because it was later then those two weeks, it was too late. I’m lactating, but only a few ml. You shouldn’t stimulate when you’re on hormones. Once you stop the hormones then you pump and use supplements.

My daughter is 6 months corrected age and I’m wondering if It is possible to relactate? my milk supply dried up and I can only get 10 mills out in total for every sitting if she’s 6 months corrected (technically she’s almost 8 months old but she was 6 weeks premature) so the doctor considers her 6 months

Mandy Irby someone told me that breastfeeding is like a natural birth control for the first 6 months but I’m not sure how effective breastfeeding is in controlling pregnancy. I’m thinking of taking birth control pills but at the same time I want to relactate for my baby so I’m really curious

What would be really cool is if in the future fathers are comfortable with breastfeeding. I feel like that'll take a good bit of the burden of the mother especially if she's the main breadwinner or so she can do different things and not have to worry about baby being fed.
