Hello everyONE! Here's part 2 of making my renaissance festival/faire costume!! I hope you enjoy!
One of these days I'll rise from the ashes of my mistakes but today is not that day lol (though mark my words, this is not the last of my arduous ren fest costume journey, it is simply the beginning!)
I hope you have a wonderful day!
Thanks for watching :)

I've heard that inserting every other bone in the opposite direction helps the pieces lay flatter. And you can iron over plastic boning on a low setting to helps straighten the boning out, put something heavy on them while they cool down.

Doing by learning is a win. Knit fabric and corsets do not mix. Heavy woven non-stretch fabric works best. Binding with bias tape will help with puckering. (Making your own with the checked fabric would be awesome!). I think the silver trim would look good with the checked bias binding. You’ve already got some tips for the boning. 👍 Keep in working to improve your skills. Use the patterns as guides. I would take the suggestions for fabric types that are on the pattern. Takes courage to try new things esp. putting them out on KZbin! Keep it up!!

Thank you so much for your incredible tips and your kind words!! This is so helpful! I will have to try making my own bias tape and I am so glad you commented this because I’ve never looked to see that patterns have fabric suggestions! That’s a game changer!!

I was using plastic boning too……. But then I found spiral steel boning on eBay and I am now in heaven! It doesn’t warp like the plastic stuff and I can wear them comfortably all day at work with my modern clothes.

Industrial zip ties from Lowes or Home Depot make great boning without all the curves and is pretty cheap. You may want to give that a try. I wish you the best of luck!

Like you said, you learned a lot through making this, even though you don't like the result ! I think when you start out, you have no idea what you're doing, you're gonna make some weird choices and later regret those. But as long as you're enjoying the process and learning from it, I think it's a lot of fun to just do the thing without overthinking it too much. If the boning you're using comes with a fabric casing, maybe you can sew it on directly ? Without making an additional channel for it ? That way you can reduce the amount of layers you're using. For the edges, if you don't want to fold over all the layers, you can always use bias tape, and make it discreet or an accent piece :) I'm looking forward to your next project, as a perfectionist and overthinker, I find your approach to sewing refreshing !

I cannot tell you how much this comment means to me! THANK YOU!! and omg why have I never once considered that you could sew the boning casing onto the corset?? Genius!!! And bias tape!! Wow!! Making this KZbin channel and kind helpful people like you taking the time to give me tips are going to add years to the end of my life lol! And my approach to sewing is something that I will hopefully refine over time but for now chaos rules haha!!

I wanted to mention a way to help avoid bunching at the top of the corset. If you don't roll them over yes leave them flat and encase them in a bias tape they will lay flatter on the top since I know that was part of why you did not like the top edge. But yes leaving flat and covering in bias tape will keep it from as I call it puckering. I hope this helps.
