Them games dont work with that PCB matter of fact no hacks work on those mybe 1 hack .N64 has 4MB to start with so the Expansion adds another 4MB making the console use a total of 8MB) the extra Ram is only accessed if instructed to do so, while alot of hacks work anyway on the N64 some don't because the ROM was expanded and the console can't load all the data even with the extra ram... forget retrostage should get New N64 programmer/PCB's coming very soon these are much cheaper an can hold up to 512mbit memory (64mb) www.mortoffgames.com/files/TheN64projectbyRetroCircuits.pdf
@thecircuitjerk16857 жыл бұрын
This demonstrates a fundamental misunderstanding of how the N64 works. Alternatively, you may not be as clear as you intend, in which case, I apologize if I misunderstood. First, yes - the N64 has a maximum of 8MB of RAM. However, the games are not 'loaded' into RAM in order to run; because cartridges are essentially daughterboards interfacing directly with the N64 hardware, the ROM data is accessed directly. The RAM is for loading things like textures, which is why we'll never see a truly impressive HQ mod capable of running on real hardware - the N64 simply can't handle the data throughput required. *thoughtfully* Though I do wonder whether 8MB is the actual limit for the N64 architecture - if not, it may be possible for fans to create expanded RAM carts to ALLOW things like HQ mods. Hmm... Secondly, most ROM hacks are tested on emulators, which work on a sort of "good-enough" mentality. Emulators aren't designed to 100% accuracy to the hardware they emulate, and just because it runs on an emulator, doesn't mean it will run on real hardware.

I LOVE my N64! By far the best Nintendo system I've ever bought. I still have my original one from back in the 90's, how ever it died and i bought a new one in the early 2000's(still got that one too). Plus i also have my brothers from when he was younger .... I have all of my games from the 90's, my brothers games, and the games that we're at my Grandma's house(recently acquired those) plus a few others that I've bought online recently ..... Favorite Game = 007 GoldenEye

Basically impossible. At least for repros. You could take a cheaper game and make it more expensive, but buying new diskettes? Impossible. Literally impossible. Also much like writing to N64 dev carts it’d muck up preservation, which is a big no-no.
