I like how Danny Thomas was so sentimental about his real-life family that he used their names for characters on the show: Margaret (his mother and his daughter Marlo), Terry (his other daughter), Julia (Danny's mother--in-law on the show has Marlo's middle name) and even in this episode, his ex-girlfriend's daughter is Rosemarie (his wife's name.) Even Rusty Williams has the middle initial C and the Feb.15 birthday of Rusty Gamer.

Not likely. Jean quit the series after the 1955-'56 season. Danny was SO incensed at her leaving, he "killed" Margaret off at the start of the 1956-'57 season [retitled "THE DANNY THOMAS SHOW"], making sure she'd NEVER appear again. And he saw to it that her episodes were withheld from future syndicated repeats (however, THIS episode was one of a handful repeated on NBC's daytime schedule in the early 1960's).

@@fromthesidelines Jean Hagen was so much better than Marjorie Lord too. Hagen had a real bravado, didn't whine as Lord did. I had read in a book there was something to do with a business reason (and as I recall some family member of Hagen's was involved) why Hagen left the series. But anyway, Danny Thomas evidently had quite a temper and often fought with producer Sheldon Leonard, which led to Sherry Jackson leaving and almost caused Lord to leave, too. Leonard was evidently the only one of authority who could at least keep Thomas under control. I read that is also one reason (besides a time change) why the 1970 comeback "Make Room for Granddaddy" failed, because Leonard wasn't around anymore to reign in the "loose cannon" Danny Thomas. So I can believe you that Thomas got his revenge on Hagen by preventing extended reruns of the episodes from when the series was titled "Make Room for Daddy" (the ABC years), just to be spiteful. Those Lebanese are known for their hot tempers. And I was acquainted with a Lebanese-American woman for many years who was a narcissistic witch, if that' is of any possible evidence for how Thomas is said to have behaved. And the apple doesn't fall very far from the tree either, as Marlo Thomas is supposedly a holy terror, treats her hired help like crap even as she pretends to be a socially-caring liberal. Of course, father Danny had his St. Jude's Children's Hospital to boost his PR image. Nowadays Marlo smiles for the cameras in the current St. Jude's TV spots. But I woudl certainly never leave my own children ion teh care of Marl Thomas by herself, unless I wanted to find my kids boiled in oil (a la "Hansel & Gretel"). I keep meaning to get that book titled "That Girl and Phil," which purports to tell the reality of Marlo Thomas, although Phil Donahue evidently comes off as a nice guy, salt-of-the-earth type. I don't know how Donahue could stand being married to a woman who is such a bitch and treats those around her so meanly, unless maybe because of her famous father combined with her good looks when she was younger, the proverbial "trophy wife." I attended a taping of one of Donahue's program in the 1990s at NBC's "30 Rock," and I must say I was impressed that, following the taping, Donahue stood by the exit door and shook hands with every single member of the studio audience on their way out of the studio. I thought that a very nice personal touch (literally). But anyway, supposedly the second Mrs. Donahue forced a pregnant employee to remain hidden in a closet without air conditioning during a heat spell. And on another occasion Marlo is said to have lambasted an employee for serving meatballs (which she termed "pedestrian" or some such) as hors d'oeuvres, which Donahue thought quite acceptable. And Donahue's children also, evidently, disliked Marlo Thomas, who they regarded as a true "wicked stepmother." There is a similar tell-all book about Diana Ross, from where it was revealed the former lead singer of The Supremes has her hired help sign a contract they are to only address her as "Miss Ross." Who was it that first said, "If you want to know the truth about rich and famous people, ask the hired help?" That credo certainly makes sense. By contrast, I have never read that any of Jack Benny's former domestic employees ever wrote a book about him. The only books about Jack Benny I have read are one by his adoring, adopted daughter Joan, another by his widow with Benny's brother in-law/producer, another by a longtime writer, and the fourth book by Benny's longtime agent. And all of them couldn't have sung Benny's praises any higher--all of them leaving the impression he was a genuinely nice guy, not without his quirks or neuroses like we all have, but basically a kind and generous man. And they were all published years after Benny's death too, when there was no possibility of lawsuits. So I believe their contents. So Danny Thomas↓ , Marlo Thomas↓ , "MIss Ross" way way ↓ , and Jack Benny ↑↑!

Honesty is the Best policy. Irva shouldn't have kissed Danny in the mouth like that. Would she want Margaret or anyone to kiss her man passionately in the mouth? A quick hug would have more than enough. Just because she has a man and kids didn't matter when she saw Danny...hmmm. Danny should have told Margret IF THE KISS MEANT NOTHING OR SOMETHING. Why? Because No one should cause a rift in YOUR MARRIAGE. With all the affairs going on today, people must THINK ANYONE can fall. Don't be paranoid, but don't be STUPID either😉
