Sometimes I love toiling over designs and making something very refined and calculated...other times I like rifling thru my drawer of off-cuts and building whatever comes to mind.
Not perfect, not well planned out but its something that didn't exist yesterday and I enjoyed making it.

I noticed you didn't use any cutting compound when cutting your threads? i rarely work with aluminium, so is this just because its not needed with aluminium thread cutting. Or just because you decided not to? :)

What was the point in removing the 3 jaw chuck, putting a 4 jaw chuck up, clocking it in then to just put a dye down it?
@CurtVanFilipowski

@CurtVanFilipowski
@CurtVanFilipowski 6 жыл бұрын
In a normal 3 jaw I agree...the 3 jaw on the taig with aluminum soft jaws is pretty anemic for work holding power hence the change...no other reason then that.

I remade this "design" and turned my aluminium pens( 4 of them ) in to tanks... You can make this pen from 2 parts (with long enough drill) and a bit shorter(115mm, fi 10.5mm) .. 3 part pen just didnt meet my tolerances(OCD for perfection)... now im planning to make Al fountain pen. Cheers mate.

as an amateur machinist and a newbie to these videos. I'm just curious as to why you don't use a live center on your tail-stock very much for how much material is hanging out? is it due to light cuts so nothing moves too much for keeping everything concentric or just because theirs a high tolerance?
@CurtVanFilipowski
@CurtVanFilipowski 6 жыл бұрын
A live center is 100% the proper way to go, the taig has limited bed space to begin with so my turning is greatly limited with a live center and is the only reason I didn't use one in this video. Light cuts help but its not the proper way to turn, this was also before I had a steady rest which I now use when extended turning is required. Thanks for the comment!
@hawkman545
@hawkman545 6 жыл бұрын
Curt Filipowski okay perfect, I figured the live centre would've worked but makes sense due to a small bed, thanks for a quick reply!
